Play Star Citizen.
Release it.
hahahahaha
What exactly is the appeal of this game? Do you just fly ships and dogfight or some shit?
>>323752808
That and massive micro managing on huge ass ships. You can also board and have fps fights on other spacecrafts
I think they also plan to add landing and fighting on actual planets
>>323752615
This.
>>323752808
Look it up if you're genuinely interested.
>>323753083
Oh okay, fuck me for trying to scrounge up some fucking discussion. My bad.
>>323752808
If you're familiar with the appeal of EVE Online, imagine that but in first person is a hugely detailed, handcrafted universe where you can land on ever planet and explore every station. Dogfight among the stars, engage in infantry combat on foot, board and capture enemy ships. Trade resources, mange civilian flights, explore foreign and alien environments, engage in politics. It's the dream game, really - do anything, be anyone.
I used to hate the game, I used to call anyone who said positive things about it a massive shill. But fuck, the most recent release, Alpha 2.0, converted me. It's just part of an orbit of one single planet and there's already tons to do and tons of fun to be had. Multicrew battles are amazing, boarding other ships is unreal, and the first person combat is surprisingly satisfying (albeit extremely basic, it's not going to replace dedicated FPS games any time soon).
I'm not going to recommend backing, as they've already made a shit-ton of money and $45 for a series of alphas and betas (as well as 2 final games, the single player Squadron 42 and the full, persistent Star Citizen) is not necessarily worth it when they don't have a lot to show for the cash you're putting down in the form of playable... game.
>>323753329
yeah except you can't do any of that shit in the game yet and probably never will
but hey, you want to give these chucklefucks money, go ahead
>>323753452
The last fourth of my post was about how you shouldn't give them money due to the fact that you can't do a lot of what they've said yet. He asked what the appeal of the game is, I answered.
oh lowtax bought a copy of star citizen and sez he's gonna stream it tomorrow night, just fyi
>>323753329
This they won't deliver on every promise but the base game should still be good
>>323753669
maybe make your posts 3/4ths shorter if you want people to get to the end of 'em, then
>>323753832
I'd say to bait harder, but I'm already letting you win.
>>323752538
Doesn't it require a fairly good PC just to run it without worries of running it smoothly?
>>323754026
don't you post levar burton at me you son of a bitch
>>323754092
Yeah, they still have a lot of optimization work to do, but it's been getting better for a while.
It's important to remember that this game is going to try to pull a Crysis and push PCs as far as they can go so it has staying power and isn't held back by consoles.I don't think it's a good choice for sales, but fuck, they've already broken a profit.
Being an old Freelancer Discovery player, I've realized something fundamental about Star Citizen.
This game would be so much better if they stepped back the high end graphics bullshit. The game doesn't gotta look triple A, it just has to play solidly. They can make a game with everything they've promissed, and it would be done or close to it, if they had decided to make it not so graphic intensive.
At this point, I don't believe they can make this game and not have it be full of bugs and glitches. The alpha had shit glitching and warping all over the place - and i know its an alpha - but i doubt they can make the build solid enough to support dozens of players on the same ship without it being a glitchy mess - especially if those same players are all hurtling through space on the same ship, fighting another buncha ships doing the same thing.
>>323752538
"No."
>>323754360
Honestly, the game would be an instant sell for me if it had stylish graphics instead of realistic graphics.
>>323754360
>high-end graphics = bugs
What? Don't get me wrong, there are a shit-ton of bugs and the decision to make the first-person camera literally just a camera attached to the third-person model was detrimental to the final product, but you're blaming the wrong department.
>>323754776
Haha no
As an outsider it attracts me. Even if they get one planet and a few ships done ill prob pick it up.
The budget is the same as mgs v either way and that game was unfinished with crappy graphics .
>>323754360
Discovery a shit

>>323754776
Even if it used the same graphics engine as Freelancer, the game would still be great.
Fuck this triple a bullshit, goddamnit, its a noose around this games neck.
I wish the fuckin' game industry would crash already
>>323754959
I dunno, Wouldn't something be more prone to failure the more complicated it is?
>>32375506185 was where the fun peaked - 86 is when Disco died for good
Or I could play a game that's free, released and with far more depth to combat.
>>323755186
Not in the ways you're talking about.
I have clipped out of a Connie more than a few times, but I have a feeling that their 105 million dollar budget can cover having the programming team and the graphics department being entirely separate. Those same bugs would exist if it was just a gray series of boxes.
>>323753083
>Play game
>Why
>Look it up faggot
/v/
>>323755254
That game doesn't allow me to be a space smuggler, trying to run contraband, and outrun the law
>>323755352
Regardless, I figure all this high end graphics building is taking time, right?
>>323755254
There's "sim" and then there's simulation. It irks me when people developing space games call them sims but I guess that's because there isn't a distinct name for games that are un-arcadey.
>>323755382
Play eurotruck simulator then.
>>323755530
It's just a hold over from the 80s and 90s when proper sims were all but impossible with the limited processing power and graphics. All sims were extremely simplistic then.
>>323755690
*early 90s
>>323755254
What part of that is free?
Or how do I get it?
>>323755478
Not exactly. Simply throwing more of the budget into programming won't necessarily make the game come out faster or with less bugs. Too many chefs ruin the soup and all that.
>>323755535
SPACE
>>323755941
I have the game for you, then.
>>323756174
>implying
>>323756174
I want something with other people, not generated AI
>>323756350
I have the game for you, then.
>>323752538
How do I play a game that doesn't exist?
>>323755941
If you actually liked space you'd play KSP and orbiter. It's nothing to do with real space, just a hollywood fantasy with ships, cockpits and huds designed by artists instead of killing machines perfected by engineers for decades.
>>323756350
Eve Online
>>323756467
>>323756553
I want something with less paperwork, and less emphasis on running a business
Also, something that doesn't require a monthly fee
>>323756509
Im way too stupid, and have too short an attention span to figure out how to slignshot kerbels into the sun - i tried. Orbiter I don't know anything about.
Seriously guys, I want Freelancer, but NEW, considering I've done everything with Freelancer there is to do
>>323756509
I'm not him, but I feel like I can contribute to this conversation.
I love KSP and Space Engine and Universe Sandbox - astronomy is really my only passion, and I love to talk and educate people about it. I'm actually currently on track to be a high school astronomy teacher just so I can help kids become interested in my favorite subject.
The thing is, though, the future of space isn't going to be cool and slick - it's going to be automated robots doing automated things or people all plugged into machines. Why even fly in space when you can control your own reality in a virtual world?
So, instead of trying to shove realism into people's faces at all times, sometimes it's better to take a step back and imagine a world that we're never going to get to see. Exaggerated? Yes. Fun? Absolutely. I was born too early to explore the universe, but maybe I was born just in time to explore the idealized version of it. The pulse-pounding and thrill-seeking version of it.
So fuck off with the "no true space fan" or whatever, you don't have to have a stick up your ass to enjoy something.
>people think sc is gonna be some super detailed sim
what it's really going to be is dogfights and half baked shootan
literally the CoD of space sims and thats if it ever gets finished
>>323756819
Rebel Galaxy, then. Controls take some getting used to but it's legit. Movement is 2D only but that isn't a big deal, you still have to think about things like fire arcs and quartering. Plus you get to make use of broadside batteries.
>>323757152
I dunno anon, I've seen some shit.
>>323755254
Man I fucking LOVE DCS
>>323757523
You mean BMS
>>323752538
i don't feel like paying for a game, then for ships, then for insurance and whatever else you need to pay for there just to fly around in incomplete game.
>>323755530
That's cause in the mid 90s the "staggeringly realistic" WW2 plane sims weren't much more complex than Wing Commander or X-Wing. Shit, they had real world flight sim games in the same engines even.
>>323753329
Tried playing it last year and ran like absolute shit on my machine. Has the optimization gotten any better or do you still need monster specs on a PC to run it?
It's pay2win so no thanks.
Vaporware.
Is the single player aspect getting as much put into it as the other stuff, or is the focus mostly on the multiplayer aspect?
What about modding tools? Mission builders and such?
>Star Citizen will be the greatest space simulator of this generation
I'm ready
>basically only thing E:D needs to be good is anyhow enchanced multiplayer aspect and ability to open/manage your own stations
>E:D devs did pathetic excuse for planetary landing instead and we're still stuck waiting for SC that doesn't look like product anyhow near being finished nor even half-done
why
>>323753329
I just wanted a new superior X, or Freelancer series which Star Citizen started out as basically and then grew into a massive MMO...
>>323762510
At this point they're making Squadron 47 a separate game.
I hope with that decision they make a mission builder and add mission-based multiplayer like Freespace 2 has.
Now I'd buy that shit in a fucking heartbeat. Fuck the MMO garbage.
It's unplayable for me on my 770. Start the 'lift off' flight tutorial, and it just hangs for seconds at a time whenver I try turning the camera or moving forward.
>>323756882
People like you teaching shit like that are why we will never leave this wretched little planet.
Earth is humanities cradle but you can't stay in the cradle forever. If we are going to thrive as a species we have to go out and populate the stars.
>>323757480
This would be great if the game didn't have that weird slow-mouse effect, which fucks up any sense of precision.
