If you could revive any game's multiplayer, what game would you choose?
I still prefered to play this over warcraft 3 back then.
I would actually give up my virginity for this
God, so many memories with that game.
I miss it. I really do.
Alien swarm. I loved that shit. Pistols or railgun were my main. It really died though in the end it was only me, the aliens and unfinished community campaigns.
Still waiting on the first person. Its been 2.5 years get your shit together bunny!
Do something about it then. If I get an announcement to play I'll do it. I never uninstalled.
This game, aside from having really fun combat in single-player, had really enjoyable multiplayer.
I spent every day for like 2 years coming home from school and playing it. I was fucking obsessed. Of course now it's just pleb tier shit since zombies have been done to death but I still have a fondness for it.
Go dI used to hack that with codebreaker. I would have infinite health while everyone suffered. For good measure I had a cowboy hat on and ran past everyone, waiting at the areas you were supposed to help people with, shooting at them with my handgun with infinite ammo.
I did get into a 3 hour long game where me and this other dude in a girl character were desperately trying to finish the level. I felt bad because he kept get more and more infected as I was just fine.
These threads were good last year but fell off after only a couple weeks. Scoured the archives finding this but all the links are dead now. Already patched and with HAC2/OS portable versions were great but lost forever because the group died.
I remember my first moment In the multiplayer.
>Oh sweet a guy near a cliff
>Go to kick him
>There is no kick
>Magic blast to the face
I vaguely remember having fun as priestess and being shit at archer but thats about it.
I was just playing that shit last night.
As for a actually dead game?
Seven Kingdoms or Total Annihilation. But you can still find the odd servers and people plaything them as well.
I havent seen one of these in years but I remember it was always just bloodgulch and while it was a fun map I miss geyrophobia (sp?). Power sliding a warthog off the end of that giant bridge and watching as your teammates plummet to their doom without you being punished was one of the greatest things in all of videogames
Halo 3 custom games.
>tfw there will never be a Halo 3 custom game lobby with 16 people all screaming and driving warthogs again.
This. Reach blew 3 out of the water with its customs.
>Being forced to play hunger games for the 10th time in a row
>realizing whoever made the map didn't put anything in place to stop you just fucking off
>Full lobby operatin' across forge world
The last game Raven made before Activision decided to have them only make CoD dlc. It had a really fun and unique multiplayer.
Shush you. I still want to find out where the snake's tail goes.
Also, the elevator bit remains one of the best scary moments in shooter history.
And XMP was surprisingly excellent, but it died in the crib because 2k4 was released mere weeks later. ;_;
An under appreciated game if ever there was one.
ripip you sweet bastard
I believe there are 1 or 2 good servers on Gameranger.
You mean the original? Fuck yeah, that was awesome. Go check out Proving Grounds, it's very close in gameplay.
UT99 is pretty much dead. Unless you wanna play some special snowflake custom server ERP BS, the only servers still alive are running 24/7 Facing Worlds. I never liked that map back then either.
Kingpin: Life of Crime
The multiplayer was so much fun, there was maps where people shot each other to pieces while trying to pick up money that rained from the sky in the middle of an arena, and the team that picked up the most money won. It was hilarious. "capture the flag" was a bag full of money that would leave a small trail of bill. You could set people on fire with flamethrowers and blast them to pieces. It was fast paced.
Doesn't have enough Rush servers, and BF4 is ass.
I still enjoy this more than newer titles.
>Doesn't have enough Rush servers, and BF4 is ass
BF4 at this stage is pretty solid. It took DICE a year to make it playable but it's good now. Hardline flopped and people just went back to BF4 after that, and probably will still keep playing whenever BF 2016 is released if it flops also.
This game was the fucking shit.
I wish I still had the same amount of prediction with the deagles that I once had. It was wonderful tagging people with those super high arcs and watching them get super salty.
But you're deluding yourself if you thought PlanetSide 1 gameplay was any good. It was clunky and awful. PlanetSide 2's core gameplay was decent but that fuckwit Higby ruined it badly and cost an entire studio their jobs.
Me too. In the rumor it is said that single player will be made by dice LA and multiplayer by dice Stockholm, and that it will support 80 players minimum as well as having free map packs on addition to premium. Although it also said that xbox one users with premium would get everything one whole fucking month earlier.
>In the rumor it is said that single player will be made by dice LA and multiplayer by dice Stockholm
SP Will suck but DICE SH is competent.
>free map packs on addition to premium
Severely doubt it considering the last 3 Battlefield games have all had premium and p2p map packs, and pay-to-unlock-everything. Not saying it's impossible, but this is EA we're discussing.
Not gonna argue with that. in terms of content its looking pretty fucking grim. Although i forgot to mention that Dice LA will be working on the map packs and multiplayer after launch. Also battlefield 4 has recently just got a free map pack so that's nice to see that maybe free map packs are possible after the paid ones.
Multi Theft Auto:San Andreas had a DM server from some clan in Poland. It was the best GTA:O ever. It's dead and I haven't seen the maps it had anywhere.
Delta Force:Joint Operations doesn't have enough players anymore. That shit had the best co-op.
>>tfw there will never be a Halo 3 custom game lobby with 16 people all screaming and driving warthogs again.
Yes there is. There is 24/7. I was just in one the other day.
The Halo 3 custom games were all remade on MCC. There's several dedicated guys who run the games.
>BF4 at this stage is pretty solid
BF4 is my go to shooter but I still think it lacks a bit in the game play department. Only decent game modes are Conquest or Rush and the only servers that stay populated are the vanilla ones thanks to premium.
Their attempt at spicing things up went horribly bad, new games modes they invented were both unoriginal designed and very unpolished for release.
Hopefully they will come up with something new, looking at Battlefront I would say they are taking a slight step in the right direction in coming up with new ideas and executing them. Good or not, they did at least put in some effort this time. Every new game mode introduced in BF4 has more or less failed, RUL might be an exception but its not a big difference from standard Rush.
>Playing in a squad with mics is GOAT though
Not if you are in europe, its either unbalanced mic volume or really bad quality one so that you cant make out what they are saying and then it distracts to much. And half the time their accent is to strong or they talk in a different language etc.
Most annoying is when platoon friends join in and they use the squad com instead of skype/ts/vent and talking in their native. euck
I wish it would have worked out better
Space Station 13. It's never been live. It's played by like 500 people. If it had a couple thousand players we'd be seeing more servers, more content and chances of some sort of a remake with a decent engine.
For those that might remember, it was =PCP=STEALTH, and the maps were Pueblo and Garage. Played the fuck out of that shit. Then around 2010 they shut the server down. Still haven't found anywhere online where you can get those maps. Apparently everyone's moved on to a new gamemode called Tactics, and abandoned Stealth entirely.
>you will never dick around for hours with your friends in forge again
>you will never play infection again on shitty custom map versions of that one sand map with the ghost and giant lake
>you will never attempt to outrun the guardians and find that damn Easter egg
>you will never play griffball again
>you will never experience the same fun as when you played a full game of forge on sandtrap
>you will never play rocket race again
>you will never remember the struggle of getting to general with the trueskill system
>you will never play big team battle capture the flag on that cool dlc snow map with the two huge bases
Halo reach just wasn't the same
the goal was also to get people to buy DX10-compatible hardware, since the company who made the game is in the 3D graphics industry and certainly had incentives
the game was just supposed to be advertisement basically, and it turned out to be good
>the game was just supposed to be advertisement basically
It makes even less sense then. Why would an advertisement be an incentive for people to upgrade? Did it come bundled with DX-10 cards?
Metal Gear Online (for MGS4)
I swear to God, playing that with a handful of chucklefucks from /v/ is the most fun I've ever had in any online multiplayer game. I miss it every day.
>By the time I finally bought MGS3, MGO had shut down
>Abandon modern games, do shit tons of emulaton
>Friend tells me MGS4 has MGO2
>Rush online to check
>SERVERS CLOSING SOON
I know MGS5 probably has MGO3, I don't give a fuck. I always wanted to play MGS3's MGO, I never did, I never will. The moment I buy MGS5, they will either shut MGO3 down or ruin with with some sort of patch, this is just the way my life is.
It doesn't matter. Any time I find a game with multiplayer that either sounds interesting or is actually fun, it will either be already dead or about to die. I don't try anymore, I just stick to single player.
