So, shit?
>>

Yeah, I guess you can only overlook the negatives if youre a die hard fan on the series or really desperate for old western Jrpgs.

I'm neither so I didn't kept on playing and moved on to Alundra or some other Jrpg

Graphically it aged like rotten eggs, but the musics are great and I love RPGs that are full of puzzles. If you can stomach the graphics and the battle sound effects, it's a really, really cool game.
>>
the theme is great, the gameplay slow

>>
>>323709279
>>323709469
Or you can play the remake, I guess. But the two are different experiences, the remake wasn't just making the exact same dungeons and battle system with upgraded graphics, it's basically a different game on its own with the same story.

And god damn, this world map theme always gives me chills and a boner.

The musics were also redone and it's a 50/50 on which is better regarding the original and remake, but both are fantastic.

Original still has the better opening, though.

>>
It's as middle of the road as you can get. The music is good but the graphics are ugly. There's some fun puzzles in dungeons but they're between boring, brainless fights where you select attack over and over again and watch slow animations play. Story and characters aren't very interesting.
>>
It's okay?

The battle system is pretty standard turn based stuff. The dungeon themselves have decent puzzles and the music is pretty good.

It also had a remake for PS2 it's pretty much an entirely different kind of game from the PS1 version.
>>
it's fucking good
combat graphics aren't the best but it's okay if you're not a graphics whore
music is awesome
8/10
>>
>>323708278
Great soundtrack and spritework with seamless transitions in exploration. Extremely basic and dull combat. Decent story, but horribly localized.
>>
Great OST. The overworld theme is literally Ecstasy of Gold.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joq9WadIMxE
>>
I think you should play the first Wild ARMs at least once, it's a nice experience.

Like many have already said, the graphics are meh in the overworld, but fugly in battle.
The battle system is kinda repetitive, but the FP system is a nice way to make it different to other RPGs.
The puzzles are something enjoyable (only one or two are completely retarded).
The music is fan-fucking-tastic, one of my favorite things of this series.
And the story is alright, nothing impressive, but it works.

And if you are going to play the other games in the series, I think you'll enjoy them much more with all the things that got upgraded compared to the first game.
>>
Second game is better but 1 got alot of that early ps1 jrpg feeling (clunky but enjoyable)
>>
>>323708278

In addition to what else was said, status ailments are a right fucking bitch for a good awhile in that game. Way worse than most jrpgs.

IIRC it stops being a problem after a certain point(either because of accessories or status lock magic, I can't remember), but until then, any battle with something who likes to use them is obnoxious as all fuck.

only the third game is any good

first game has a the fatal combination of high random encounter rate + everything takes forever to load that plagues a lot of ps1 rpgs

second game has a basically unplayable translation

fourth and fifth games are maximum anime cliches and have combat that doesn't really work

Someone with little english knowledge.

Good thing there's is a fan translation of 2 out there. Too bad that it's in Spanish

First game: Maybe in-house

Second game: They used a machine translator.

Fuck all y'all, I like Wild Arms and there is nothing you can do about it
>>
The trpg spinoff, wild arms xf, is actually somewhat decent. It basically disregards the "western" setting pretty early on, the story sucks, and lategame is a joke once you get overpowered classes, but the early game is pretty balanced and there's some interesting maps.

I haven't played the rest of the series. I particularly hate random battles and particularly care about good gameplay that involves more strategy than just mashing A. Will I like any of the other games?
>>
>>323717652
There's random encounters in every game.

Though they do try to lessen them from game to game(And some games allow you to skip them provided you do a certain thing first)
>>
>>323717652

Then your best bet is 3, not as easy as 2 and more refined that 1.

Also one thing I like about WA series is how you can avoid battle pretty easy with the migrant system
>>
>>323711107
And the MGS composer was sued for plagiarizing the theme....

Given the fact that the MGS theme wasn't even remixed for 5 you can probably take a guess.
>>
>>323717652
>I particularly hate random battles and particularly care about good gameplay that involves more strategy than just mashing A. Will I like any of the other games?
You can skip battles in WA2, 3 and ACF. The gameplay isn't just mashing A per say because that isn't the best way to deal with enemies, specially in 3.

WA4 and WA5 have a battle system in grids, so they're more tactical oriented.

Me neither, fuck that. I heard that the other half of the party is pretty good but only after you unlock their abilities, and I wasn't going to grind the vampire girl just to summon a new robot

Here is a tip; tiny flowers for Kanon, the other two you have to farm them.

Stat-wise they are better that Lilka, Brad and Ashley
>>
>>323709469
>Graphically it aged like rotten eggs
it didn't.
Because it was fucking horrible since release.
>>
>>323708278
The original is genuinely one of the ugliest games I've ever seen.
Thankfully Alter Code F is a remake, so go play that. It's pretty good.
>>
>>323716895
They never are.
>>
>>323713826
was it bugged? I swear the chest opening code was random with not a single clue around. It didn't even make a sound when you got the good combination making it impossible to solve without luck or the solution.
>>
>>323720571
Tell that to the vietnamese who managed to translate all Fire Emblem games that were Japanese. Their patches are actually good to boot, translated everything, have no garbled texts, don't crash at the ending and don't make a pirate turn into a madman as the game goes on.

At least FE6 and FE12 have good english translations.
>>
>>323720572
She was pretty fucking rad. After watching the second intro, I started using her more.
>>
>>323709469
The field graphics are okay, but the battles feel so shitty with their slow, limited animations.
>>
>>323708278
Great music.

Fun and memorable, but very anime-ish, style.

Horrendous visuals.

Extremely mediocre battle system.

Goes through a roller coaster of interesting to
dull.

Puzzles are pretty okay the first time.

Terrible localizations. Definitely play the original
JP versions if you know the language.
>>

Some day I'll be able to finish it without my saves getting fucked up.

>Beating WA3 on PCSX2

I don't know how the hell I did it. The game was running at 30fps and there were two parts in which the game crashed, so I had to use some retarded soulution, like turning off the sound plugin.

It still became one of my favorite games

Well fuck, as I lil kid I didnt got all of that the first time. Also the dungeon with Anastasia is pretty sad too.

>>323721848
>>323722446

Wild Arms 3, 4 and 5 are one of the worse coded games in PS2, that is why is a miracle they are going to re-release the
>>
>>323721848
Never, NEVER use game saves + savestates. Use one or the other. Never both.
>>
>>323723730
I've never had that cause a problem in any game in any emulator other than in WA3.
>>
>>323725030

PS2 emulation will forever by fucked until someone rever engineer it or get some leaked documents
>>
>>323725248
I don't think that really has anything to do with some bizarre fuckup of nature that has occurred once in my entire history of emulation, anon.
>>
The opening made me crave a Wild Arms anime.

Then I watched the first several episodes after finding out there was one and was severely disappointed.

Haven't touched the game or the anime since.
>>
>>323708278
Not great. And the gamplay is enough to make you vomit.

Was a great game when it came out though.
>>
>>323725401

The anime got some good references to the first games
