The series died with AC4. AC2 and AC4 are two of my all time favorite games, Brotherhood was very very good, AC1 is great but completely unique for the franchise, AC3 I actually quite enjoyed, and I despised Revelations. Haven't played anything since Black Flag, but Rogue looks very good.

I used to defend the modern day storyline quite a bit, but looking back it kind of ruined the storyline. The need for more modern day material necessitated the creation of Revelations, which provided absolutely nothing to the historical stories. An anthology series of characters throughout history, tied together only by a common affiliation to a timeless organization, would've been much better.

The problem is the "modern day" storyline we got took out all the good parts of the main games. It were entierly linear with bland areas.

Juno, the chick that wants Desmond to sacrifice himself to save the world is released and uses Sages, descendants of her former lover, to carry her will and finally be brought back to rule humans. Abstergo uses these sages because they have a very old DNA.
