I doubt it. It only got localized with help from Sony due to popular demand. The games don't sell well in the west so it's just cheaper to sell it on the digital store.

You should play the whole series, you're doing a disservice to yourself by skipping most of it. Specifically, 5 doesn't give you a review of the previous games either, like all the other games do.
If you're lazy, you may as well start with 4. And as bad as the plot of 4 is, at least it doesn't have the pacing issues 5 has.

You may like taxi stuff, but then there's hunting, you may like hunting, but then there's the idol part, you may like the idol part, but then there's something else you have to play through at least a bit. I don't really understand. If you play story only there's very few of hunting\taxi\idol\baseball stuff. You just go two or three times hunting with Okudera and just dance two or three times with Haruka (and you don't even have to win with her), so there's nothing really forcing you to play these parts. Do it if you enjoy it or just rush through it if you don't it wont take much time.

I think one way of fixing that, and making the game more interesting to play through, is making you not play a chapter with only one character. Make you change characters more oftenly.

The problem is, while he is a fun guy, he isn't that important to the plot. In fact, if it wasn't for his boss being nagged by that Omi Alliance 7th chairman he would have no reason to go to Tokyo and thus helping making a dream yet not Haruka following up by quitting right on stage and destroying that feeling of others who don't have a dream of their own to have hope which was what was being preached throughout the game.

Most people suggest you absolutely should, as 2 is incredible.

If you cant emulate it or cant buy it, just start with 3. Its the weakest in the series (at least for the English release), but it has a recap of 1 and 2.
