If you had to choose a MMORPG between these titles, which one would you pick?
I've grown tired of MMORPGs that kind of forces you to play, since you've paid the X-amount of money just to play one month.
Out of those three? GW2. Although WS also offers F2P so you can try it out. TESO is just a complete miss for, stuck between a TES game and MMORPG but succeeding at neither. Also you need to buy new content updates just like Secret World is doing, but it's nowhere that level of quality.
>Or wait for new shit like BnS (19th) or BDO (Q1)
and brace yourself for disappointment in both cases. literally the only players who will care about blade and soul in the end is the tera fanbase, while black desert online has been neutered as fuck and just has a good character creator.
Guild wars 2 isn't gonna get any new content this year per se.
The devs have stated that they're taking this year's time to polish out the shittier aspects of the game.
With that being said it's still a pretty decent mmo and had loads of content to play
I've completely quit GW2, once you've done each races and faction's storyline the writing turns from mixed to shit very very quickly and the sheer amount of cash shop shit they spit out is just insulting, even before it went f2p.
Save yourself some grief and give it a pass.
they patched everything. Also the endgame is artificial, you don't really need it. Their instances are flavourless and have no story tied to them. It's just a waste of time to do them.
GW2 is a big stinking pile of disappointment compared to GW1, but it's still better than the other two.
TESO seems really interesting for the first two hours or so, but after you get over the novelty you start to discover just how badly it fails both at being a TES game and at being an MMO.
Wildstar is competently made but dull as all fuck unless you're really interested in the endgame, which is the only halfway decent part of the game.
Better than the 3 in the OP though imo.
>BDO has been neutered as fuck
What? They've released/about to a massive PvE patch in Korea, and the Western version is removing the PW2 bullshit.
Sandbox got fucked over because Koreans complained about it to no end. There's a blog out somewhere there that goes into details about how it's a massive 180 or something.
MMO is an extremely attractive novelty, but no one has made a game that is actually fun to play. Planetside was somewhat fun until you really get into it. MMORPGs are glorified chatrooms with a few interesting boss mechanics once in a blue moon.
>tfw your favorite MMO is a literal corpse
To be fear CO has been dead since fucking forever.
>Star Trek Online
>keeps getting regular updates
>keeps getting regular updates
>dead in a ditch somewhere
Which is obviously happening because both STO and NW have license holders breathing down Cryptic's neck to actually do something about it, while owners of Champions license don't give a fuck.
CO died when it went F2P.
Maybe if they had made F2P mode actually attractive instead of gimping free players it would have lived longer (especially after CoH/CoV shut down), but they really fucked it up by not letting people create their own moveset in F2P.
>Their instances are flavourless and have no story tied to them
>End game has no story
>Content which you are supposed to do over and over and over again has no story
Next you are going to say that you can't play any MMO because every dialogue isn't voice acted by hollywood super stars.
Also the game actually has a mediocre to bad story and the dungeons and adventures DO have story in them. Wildstar also has quite good lore
No, you're not.
ESO had some potential with its relatively interesting leveling system and decent world, but it shits the bed when it comes to the actual gameplay and awful quests. Not to mention getting around is just boring as fuck.
I'd choose not to play an MMO.
90% of them will quit once they realize they can't p2w the PvP and that they can't be a lyn for more than three classes.
The rest will once they realize they can't faceroll new PvE content.
>Get bit by the superhero bug
>Try to jump back into CO because DCUO is dogshit
>Computer bluescreens every time I run the patcher
Welp, I guess that's the end of that.
No - so either quit MMOs or wait for 2016 release to hope for the best.
I think I might sink some hours into BDO because the combat looks alright and the property system reminds me of EVE.
I tried playing NW as well because I loved CO and Star Trek is not my thing but it's so fucking bad.
It was terrible enough before mod 6, but everything after that has been a giant log of shit after another.
I was disappointed from the get-go because I honestly wanted more DDO, not action MMORPG with a D&D skin. DDO was really unique and it's such a shame it faded away with age.
I put a lot of time into Neverwinter, but yeah it just gets worse and worse. Every update is just an excuse to promote the cash shop more without addressing any of the game's actual problems.
To illustrate how bad this is, there are simple texture glitches that would take maybe 3 minuts of a dev's time to fix (like one of the shields that has its texture upside down) that have reported since the game's launch and STILL haven't been fixed despite years of updates. And let's not even mention the complete joke of a PvP mode.
It was shit for a while, but they actually listened to the complaints and made it less shit.
It's still a super comfy game and not many MMOs have a class that's as fun to play as the LotRO Burglar.
Raids usually save a spot for healer which is the druid ( ranger specialization).Could also work in pvp for healing teammates when necessary although the healing is secondary as in you're not running around the map finding people to heal but mostly supporting those in need.
Just wait for BDO. At least that has a fun combat system. And if Daum isn't lying about reducing potion spam and lowering karma loss for open world PvP, then it might be legitimately good. Obviously, it's wait and see for now though.
It's in closed beta right now. It's having two, with one already passed back in December. It'll release sometime Q1 this year. They gave out a bunch of beta passes for the first one that got distributed through facebook and various sites.
I remember when before GW2 was about to release there was another MMO with minecraft elements that was supposed to come out as well.
Do you remember which game I'm talking about?
What happened to it?
Yeah the world and area design is one of the highlights of the game. The only thing I didn't like about GW2's world was that it's so obviously made out of fenced-in square regions. I mean I totally get why it works that way, but at least make it less obvious. GW1 never felt like it was a bunch of square sandboxes next to eachother.
>tfw Star Citizen and EQ Next will never get released
>caring about scam citizen
At the very least it's 10'000% p2w, but not only that, the amount of money you need to pay to win is ridiculous and you are only allowed to pay to win for a limited time. There's no way it can possibly turn out any other way than absolute shit.
Wildstar on EU as far i know the pvp server is empty both factions and the bgs are full of bots, but the pve server is quite alive and active. There seems to be a miscomception wen sayng ws is 100% dead cuz its not. I enjoy fast paced end game content that is actually dificult, and atm ws is the only one who can provide other mmos on the market fail badly at this.
Don't you enjoy paying $100 for a ship? What are you, a poorfag?
Come on, goy. Think of how much fun you'll have in your brand new $200 spaceship! Just ask your mom to borrow her creditcard for a minute. It's only $500!
BDO is a very bad mmorpg. Many things are actually destroying the core mechanics of this game because they went for a F2P.
And of course, it s gameplay, while fun alone, sucks horribly when you begin to play with mate. Just look at mass pvp or pve on youtube, it s miserable.
That's what you hope, but there's nothing stopping them from adding P2W elements later on. After all without a monthly fee they've already got all the money they're going to get out of you right at the start, so they've got nothing to lose by scaring off people who hate P2W and everything to gain from catering to those who like it.
C O S M E T I C S
Cosmetics work extremely well. They could add hat trading for real money and very rare cosmetic drops and they'd swim in money. In MMOs, as opposed to ASSFAGGOTS and FPS, cosmetics are even more popular since your character is persistent and you'll be looking at the same outfit for hundreds of hours unless you buy several sets. You also have a "single" character (of course you can make alts but that's not the point) so it's even more boring to look at it with the same cosmetics on.
Here you go, sir : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yV1-Ts4_qmM
PvP and PvE in BDO sucks because they choose to not have support. Completely retarded in a mmorpg so we just have a zerg fest.
Yeah but B2P still have a cash shop, so it s the same. I m not talking about P2W, but the presence of a cash shop means every choice will be made to keep their costumers, even if they are detrimental to the concept of this mmo (GvG in full openworld). What killed BDO in korea was not the content of that cash shop, but the changes in the game like the massive PK penalities.
The good news is all this changes can be reversed to have the CBT 1 game wich was near perfect (except for the gameplay). The bad news is it will only happen in private server because this type of MMO can only exist in P2P.
And that s why I can't understand why people agree with that. MMORPG was always about having the shiniest armor and weapon possible. Part of why people are actually doing raids in WoW is to loot a skin for exemple.
This is not a fuckin moba where you play for the sake of gameplay itself, it s a mmorpg where your character is persistant and evolve constantly.
And if you add the ability to sell cosmetics to other players for real money in a steam item trading kind of way, and receive a portion of every transaction, players can create an economy where some cosmetics are significantly more expensive than their initial price, and yet sell quite well, giving you much more profit than with pure direct sale. Plus, you gain additional profit everytime the item changes hands, on top of the initial sale price.
The world bosses in GW2's expac were probably the most fun I've had in a MMO in a long time, but they really fucked up that collectathon vibe the core game had.
Every MMO is pretty much shit now, but GW2 has some interesting stuff at least.
Well, I don't think it can work with a F2P B2P model. The goal of those model is to please to the largest number possible and we are talking about a GvG type of mmo. This kind of mmo are usually elitist and very competitive.
P2P is the only choice because contrary to the precedent models, the goal is just to please a part of the market and keep them on the long term, like EvE online.
Fucking hell, that is depressing. I actually enjoyed that game since I missed the CoX boat
>You will never play your Japanese superhero caricature ever again
Don't play GW2. It's soulless without true content. It's also extremely boring leveling just to get to endgame without anything interesting to work towards. It's core mechanic of "everyone should play tanks dps hybrid with self healing" neutered any chances of interesting pve content, since you fee like you're doing the same grind no matter what class or encounter you're doing.
ESO is not 10/10 but the leveling experience is above average for MMO. The quests are actually interesting, and the world is beautiful. Unlike GW2, there are actual classes and choices when leveling your character.
Wild star is just dead.
