Nothing about the Souls games necessitates a slow pace. They're characterized by a necessity to manage stamina and commit to attacks with start ups and cool downs. You can do all that and retain a fast pace.

Bloodborne is a masterpiece, and i love playing defensively with a shield in Souls.

But the setting, the combat, the weapons, the bosses... it remains the best exclusive of this gen so far.

Bloodborne is the example of how to change a franchise and NOT FUCK UP.

I like fast paced, I just wish there was a way to dodge cancel out of attacks or something so that when the game arbitrarily decides an enemy isn't going to be staggered by your attack today or now they have hyper armor you're not guaranteed to eat a hit.

Axes, and other types of swords are as fast as the longsword.
The Dragon Bone Smasher is fast.
