>I've been refunding a lot of games because I thought they'd be good but they were shit
>Steam sends me this passive aggressive message reminding me to check out user reviews
I like that I can try new games without worrying that I might waste my money on something I don't like, but does anybody know if at some point Steam decides that you've had enough refunds and stops giving them?
Of course it's passive aggressive. I don't know if you've worked in a job sector that provides refunding of products, but usually it's an absolute pain in the arse on their end, even worse when done electronically. Half of the time, refunds are the result of you being a stupid, ignorant and uninformed consumer that doesn't do their research before purchasing, therefore buying shit willy nilly before throwing a massive temper tantrum when you realize you bought a load of shit.
>Thinking you can tell exactly how a game plays based on footage or some third party's own version of his subjective truth
Which never takes into account things like controls, feel, etc
>Reading the helpful reviews of Steam can give you a good idea.

You mean tards like Totalbiscuit, Sterling or joke curators like Anime Waifu Hunter?

This is why I still do the whole pirate before you try thing. This way I can check to see if the game isn't shit without having to request refunds all the time
plus it works on nonsteam games
either you don't have any idea what you like, or you don't know how to find out about what a game is about before you buy. either way the "passive aggressive" reminder is an attempt to better yourself
hey idiot, you're supposed to find somebody who shares similar values/principles as you do and see how they like something. just because you're a lazy asshole who doesn't know how to use the internet, that doesn't mean people are wrong for listening to people who share the same tastes
>you're supposed to find somebody who shares similar values/principles as you do and see how they like something
Except that's literally impossible.
Even Roger Ebert liked the Star Wars Prequels and didn't like A Clockwork Orange because "muh violence against women!"
>Except that's literally impossible.
you're just a lazy faggot who doesn't know how to use the internet or to think for yourself. insufferable even to automated services. if you can't find someone you mostly agree with, find parts of criticism/praise from people you trust know what they're talking. do you know how to think independently? if yes, do that. if no, kill yourself.
>>Why should I waste my time being an informed consumer and making responsible decisions in an age where I can see literally everything about a game in 2 minutes of googling

How every thread about refunds devolve to
>"Hey /v/ I'm fucking retarded and literally can't stop spending money, Valve is jewing me by not letting me own every game in Steam's library for 2 hours"
>"Refunds aren't a demo system retard"
>"WELL MUH EU LAW SAYS I SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET A REFUND FOR ANY REASON FUCK AMERICA THEY'RE BREAKING EU LAW EU HASN'T DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT YET BECAUSE NO ONE HAS EVER MADE THIS COMPLAINT PEPPER YOUR ANGUS VALVE"
>"Wow enjoy that ass fucking, not allowing any retard to take whatever he wants for free is anti consumer companies aren't allowed to make money"
>"Wow what a bunch of fucking jews wanting money for what they made! I also want to keep my money but this is different, so if you point out this double think you're a shill!"
80% of people here are retarded children screaming for free shit and doesn't know how businesses work.
>>"Wow what a bunch of fucking jews wanting money for what they made! I also want to keep my money but this is different, so if you point out this double think you're a shill!"
Deal with it. If a game doesn't have a demo I don't see why OP shouldn't be able to try out a game first (especially when it comes to PC games and their optimization), either through piracy or the refund system, though I have no idea why he would choose the latter.
It's always hilarious how immensely asshurt people get from refunds. If your game is good, bug free and has good amount of content for the cost people won't refund it, it's simple as that. I don't see any reason why the "poor developers who need to feed their family" argument should hold if they're knowingly supplying people with lackluster or outright broken products.
Refunds aren't demos you brain dead hick.
If you're too fucking stupid to research something before you buy it than fuck off.
>See one game
>3% approval rating
>"Well better buy both even though I can't afford them"
Nah, buying with the intention of refunding is fucking retarded, you're retarded.
>Year 2016 after our lord Jesus Christ was born
>He somehow need to play games to see if they are shit or not
>In the day and age where every new released game gets atleast 100 Lets Play videos at Day 1 to check if the game is bugged or the game mechanics pleasure you
I dont like Valve but even i can understand why they send you this message
>Refund Amazon products too much
>Refund Gamestop purchases too often
>Refund Steam purchases too much
>300 post threads about anti consumer practices and how cancerous the video game industry is
>Use the word entitled
>"STOP USING BUZZWORDS REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"
The only reason retail stores disallow giving videogame refunds outside the plastic wrapping is because of piracy, otherwise they would allow refunds. Why are you against someone buying a game, not enjoying it, and getting a return? You can literally go anywhere, to any place, that sells any thing; and almost 100% of the time get a refund.
So why are you against people getting refunds through steam?
I'm not against it.
Not at all.
I'm against children who think it's a method of trying out 3000 games because they buy with the intention of not being a customer, but a window shopper, and they have the balls to get mad when the company protects itself by telling them to fuck off, which every single industry does.
Talking in extremes and repeating what you said in ebin greentext isn't really going to help you make your point. And what if the refund system is not officially meant for demos? Are you saying forcing people to buy pigs in a poke is good, especially considering the possible optimization problems when it comes to PC games? Do you actually think developers and publishers should be compensated for putting out shitty products?
Like I said, the only ones getting hurt by refunds are short, overpriced 2deep4u walking sims, AAA games with shitty PC ports and a bunch of triggered crazies who think they're "standing up for the little man" by speaking against a practice that has been the accepted norm in pretty much every other type of industry for years.

Fair enough, but every store, including steam, has rules and regulations for returns. And everybody takes advantage of loopholes to save a buck given the chance.
Indie devs have always had a silver spoon in their mouths when it comes to their games and their customers. If the market doesn't suit your needs, find another one; which they won't, because Steam, regardless how "shitty" indies claim it to be, boost the fuck out of their sales.
Hey man, indies can fuck right off for all I care, that's the nature of indies anyway, there's literally thousands of these faggots, so if you want to stand out make something I want to play.
imagine all those indie games you could finish without even buying them
Then perhaps indie devs should fucking make some effort in their games or ask less money from the shit. There is no justification to pay 5$/5€ from hour long game. It's not even worth of 1.
>(Insert genre here)... with a friend
>Said friend is AI companion.
Why in the world would you actively go out and collect a demo disc?
My dad got some from a magazine when I was young but it's not like he could pick which games he got.
If something without any exposure looked interesting it was literally a crapshoot.
Damn the simply ebin indie devs are out in full force.
If your mad because your shitty game got refunded, stop making shitty games that can be beat in 15 minutes.
If steam is mad about the situation, maybe they should require demos, or just shut the fuck up and keep refunding.
I've never gotten a steam refund, but I don't buy shitty indie games either. 90% of my games come from gray market sites with PayPal.
Whoa whoa whoa.
I dislike retards who think Valve is being jews by not letting you refund 2 grand in game purchases because you're a shitty consumer.
Indies are a doggy dog world and only the top 1% deserve any money because almost all indies suck shit.
I fucking loved demo discs when I was a kid. I didn't have the money to buy a lot of games, I could only afford buying something like 1 or 2 games at most every 6-7 months and that's all I had, so I ended up subscribing to gaming magazines. They came with free demo discs with all the new amazing games and sometimes they even had free games in them.
It was the shit, I spent so many hours playing the same segment of some games in the demos over and over and over again.
>toxic consumer-first ideology
Nope. I'm still not okay with this line of thought existing in my universe.
