I think depending how strong as a person factors in how strong of a nobody you are. Some of orgXIII were soldiers and others we don't know how strong they got after they grew up before becoming nobodies. Only thing that factors in for how strong of a heartless you are is if you're edgy enough. Sora had very little darkness in him so he was just a grub while his nobody took some of Sora and Ven.

The story was better when it was about Final Fantasy character exploring the Disney worlds, the plot completely collapses in on itself in the later half of Kingdom Hearts 2. They should've never focused so much on the OCs, none of the Disney characters are even relevant besides Mickey. It went from a quirky and cute adventure to one of the worst deviantart fan fictions I've ever seen

With that said though Birth By Sleep is the best in the series

I don't think that was ever really gonna happen due to the tugging Square and Disney had over KH1's development. If I recall correctly Square wanted Mickey as the the protagonist while Disney for some reason wanted Donald, so they compromised and Sora was made.

The thing about KH and the story is that it is clearly an afterthought. You can tell they didn't have a set plan for it(other than some broad points). For better or worse, more focus was put on the gameplay and the story was then created to facilitate that. Personally I don't mind that style since I think the games are a lot of fun. I like the combat, I like the art, I like the music, and I like the characters. The story is convoluted but it really shouldn't be the driving force behind you playing the games. If you don't think they're fun then they probably just aren't for you.

I love this series so much.

It could've easily been the edgiest thing in the universe on the level of Coldsteel, but it avoids that (in my eyes) by jumping into the edge like it's a swimming pool and treating it like fucking nothing. Kinda like a sillier version of the way Berserk handled it.

I felt that way about FF type 0HD or whatever the fuck it was called.
I got it mainly for duscae, but thought hey, I don't know much about type 0 but its a FF game I haven't played yet, so I'm down.
What a fucking disaster. The game starts with a landslide of exposition with made up words and in world concepts I'm not familiar with at that point. Absolutely ZERO concept of easing into the plot or world building.
Just shoves a fucking encyclopedia of dumb high fantasy nonsense in front of your face immediately and expects you to be invested.
It stands in stark contrast when compared to the old game's stories and how they had a firm grip on pacing and how to gradually paint a picture of how the world and characters are.
I'm going to give it another shot eventually in case it gets good but fuck, the initial clusterfucky disappointment turned me off of it so hard I haven't touched it since that first day I bought it.

I understand being sorta disenfranchised with this sort of storytelling, but at the same time it's like an in media res version of worldbuilding. It makes it feel like the characters actually know what's going on and what they're talking about.

I only got confused with the time travel during all of these games. So Xehanort can only travel to a time period where he has a vessel present right? What were the guidelines for doing so? The story is a complete and total clusterfuck that went from "gotta save my evil? friend" to "DARKNESS AND CLONES AND 5 PEOPLE LIVING IN SORA'S HEAD AND DARKNEEEEESSSSSS". I mean really, the actual overarching plot isn't bad, but the writing is retarded because it plays the story straight. Something this over the top with as many plot asspulls as it has should have a way different tone, yet it comes off as srs biznus.

Characters are all cliches of cliches, their designs are so angsty teenager it hurts (everyone wears dark ankle length hoodies and coats! but the weapons are all brightly colored and overdesigned! and under the hood? belts and zippers! so cool! also batman armor). It went from a cute fusion of Disney and anime to basically inventing the beltsnzippers meme, and the keyblade designs are just... the x-blade, really? The designs are literally every 13 year old deviantartist's wet dream.

Kingdom Hearts 1 was perfect, everything hit the right chord, the plot was very Disney-like which suited the setting flawlessly while having that sexy anime twist. The gameplay improves in later iterations but everything else takes a major step back

Kingdom hearts is fucking stupid, but in that fun kinda way.

The story is a mess, don't pretend it isn't man.

But yeah "too many consoles" is utterly irrelevant anymore since literally every game is on PS3 now besides III and some of the shittier ones (and almost all of them have movie versions in the PS3 ports.)

Maleficent, despite having created this syndicate of villains, can't even get half of them to give a shit about her plan, which was already kinda half-baked.
Sora turns into a Pureblood Heartless even though the discrepancy between Purebloods and Emblems exists in KH1. Not like this is a huge thing but it always bothered me.

I mean it's hard to go wrong with a plot as basic as KH1's, but I wouldn't say it's perfect.

Even as a kid I could never get into KH conceptually.

KH has a problem with some of the backstory being contained within the reports and some of the explanation/further exploration of some events being in the Ultimanias/Nomura's various interviews. The first one isn't so much a problem as you can easily read them in-game the other is a bit harder if you don't know where to look for them. I can't tell you how many times I've answered a recurring question by just pulling the Ultimania. And it doesn't help that Nomura will keep his mouth shut tight on certain elements until they're relevant.

The heart in KH is pretty much like what the soul generally is in other entertainment media and there's a separate concept of soul in the series too but it's not important so far. I've heard that the difference comes down to the Japanese and how it's used. I think in the JP version of BbS this lead to confusion on the part of Terra as he didn't get the fact that Queen Brunhilde meant Snow White's literal heart or something.
