>the story is too convoluted
>I can't understand what's going on
>It's spread over too many consoles/handhelds
You have really have to not being paying attention to not be able to grasp Kingdom Heart's story for the Xehanort/Dark Seeker Saga. And with the Remixes the series is down to 3 collections over 2 consoles so really have no excuse at this point.
I understand the story going on in the Kingdom Hearts games. I still think it's more convoluted than it needed to be and, furthermore, really wasn't what I was looking for in a series that combines Square and Disney characters together.
What do nobodys mean when they say they dont exist? Why do some nobodys have memories from before they were nobodys? Does becoming a nobody give you elemental powers, or did the org have them before?
>I was looking for in a series that combines Square and Disney characters together.
What were you looking for?
>convoluted than it needed to be
You can blame Sakaguchi for this.
>they say they dont exist?
It's kind of an inflection of how they're missing the thing that pretty much makes a person, a person in this series which is a heart.
>memories from before they were nobodys
This is a fairly common thing actually. I think Roxas is said to have not to because Sora didn't spend that much time as a heartless/he had a weird "birth" anyway.
It seems that Braig had some powers before he became Xigbar so maybe.
I think depending how strong as a person factors in how strong of a nobody you are. Some of orgXIII were soldiers and others we don't know how strong they got after they grew up before becoming nobodies. Only thing that factors in for how strong of a heartless you are is if you're edgy enough. Sora had very little darkness in him so he was just a grub while his nobody took some of Sora and Ven.
>While he discussed his general recording work, Cummings discussed that they have to "paraphrase the original Japanese script" which can create challenges for them to record the dialogue, but voicing Tigger in this manner is "fun".
>Although unbidden, Cummings also added that his part of recording for Kingdom Hearts 3 is already completed.
I hope this isn't another situation where the VA gets confused.
The story was better when it was about Final Fantasy character exploring the Disney worlds, the plot completely collapses in on itself in the later half of Kingdom Hearts 2. They should've never focused so much on the OCs, none of the Disney characters are even relevant besides Mickey. It went from a quirky and cute adventure to one of the worst deviantart fan fictions I've ever seen
With that said though Birth By Sleep is the best in the series
>Final Fantasy character exploring the Disney worlds
Seeing as Sora is treated as a Disney character this never was true
>deviantart fan fictions
This means nothing in KH threads at this point.
>read the whole book
>you understand the book
>only read the first two chapters of a book
>you don't understand what's going on when you hear people talk about the rest of the book
Man what the fuck it's so unfair
I meant until the point all the Xehanort clones started popping up. And then the fact that Xehanort's nobody travelled back in time to warn his younger self was entirely convoluted.
Sora actually is a Disney character, Disney owns all of them, Kairi is basically a vidya only Disney princess. Doesn't mean that Sora and co. aren't clearly Final Fantasy inspired
The story and character designs are fucking terrible, that's why it's deviantart tier
No, it doesn't. You using "deviantart fan fiction" to describe the story and design elements doesn't mean jack shit. You haven't said anything about what exactly makes them shit in your opinion, you're just using buzzwords. Why use "deviant art" tier to describe the series when there are very good artists on the site and why are you using "fan fiction" to describe something which is own work of fiction that it's own intellectual property in which there is fan fiction based off of it? Use your words instead of just boiling it down to "deviantart fan fiction". But like I said that pretty much means nothing in KH threads since it's thrown around so often, it's like faggot or cuck at this point.
>cuck got used and abused so much that it's as normalized and catch-all as faggot now
No, bad things are just bad. I mean sure you can enjoy it but you just gotta recognize that it's bad. Like Dragon Ball Z. Terrible fucking anime but I still find it enjoyable.
KH1 was alright but the story is needlessly convoluted in every game after it. Really, it's a kids action RPG with Disney characters, does it need some 2deep4u plot?
And it's not even a good 2deep4u plot, it's just a series of "GOTCHA" moments and waaaay too many characters.
Hopefully they put air in those balloons and not helium.
Wouldn't want him to SORA into the sky HAHAHAHAHAAHAAHAHA
I don't think that was ever really gonna happen due to the tugging Square and Disney had over KH1's development. If I recall correctly Square wanted Mickey as the the protagonist while Disney for some reason wanted Donald, so they compromised and Sora was made.
The thing about KH and the story is that it is clearly an afterthought. You can tell they didn't have a set plan for it(other than some broad points). For better or worse, more focus was put on the gameplay and the story was then created to facilitate that. Personally I don't mind that style since I think the games are a lot of fun. I like the combat, I like the art, I like the music, and I like the characters. The story is convoluted but it really shouldn't be the driving force behind you playing the games. If you don't think they're fun then they probably just aren't for you.
I love this series so much.
It could've easily been the edgiest thing in the universe on the level of Coldsteel, but it avoids that (in my eyes) by jumping into the edge like it's a swimming pool and treating it like fucking nothing. Kinda like a sillier version of the way Berserk handled it.
>kids action RPG with Disney characters
Now what is it that makes it a kids action RPG? Nomura has said multiple times that he tries to make it accessible to everyone but this is something I've seen thrown around in KH threads a lot. Is it the Disney elements?
I felt that way about FF type 0HD or whatever the fuck it was called.
I got it mainly for duscae, but thought hey, I don't know much about type 0 but its a FF game I haven't played yet, so I'm down.
What a fucking disaster. The game starts with a landslide of exposition with made up words and in world concepts I'm not familiar with at that point. Absolutely ZERO concept of easing into the plot or world building.
Just shoves a fucking encyclopedia of dumb high fantasy nonsense in front of your face immediately and expects you to be invested.
It stands in stark contrast when compared to the old game's stories and how they had a firm grip on pacing and how to gradually paint a picture of how the world and characters are.
I'm going to give it another shot eventually in case it gets good but fuck, the initial clusterfucky disappointment turned me off of it so hard I haven't touched it since that first day I bought it.
>a landslide of exposition with made up words and in world concepts I'm not familiar with at that point
I understand being sorta disenfranchised with this sort of storytelling, but at the same time it's like an in media res version of worldbuilding. It makes it feel like the characters actually know what's going on and what they're talking about.
And you as the audience get to figure it out later instead of like
>here I'll explain this world to you even though you've lived here for your whole life
>here's this new character who doesn't know jack shit for some reason so the others have to fill him/her in as a proxy for the viewer
I haven't started Type-0 yet so maybe they handle it really poorly, I dunno.
I only got confused with the time travel during all of these games. So Xehanort can only travel to a time period where he has a vessel present right? What were the guidelines for doing so? I think he could only do it once and as long as he had a vessel in that period.
I haven't played 3D since it came out.
Do I seriously have to break this shit down for you piece by piece? Fine.
The story is a complete and total clusterfuck that went from "gotta save my evil? friend" to "DARKNESS AND CLONES AND 5 PEOPLE LIVING IN SORA'S HEAD AND DARKNEEEEESSSSSS". I mean really, the actual overarching plot isn't bad, but the writing is retarded because it plays the story straight. Something this over the top with as many plot asspulls as it has should have a way different tone, yet it comes off as srs biznus.
Characters are all cliches of cliches, their designs are so angsty teenager it hurts (everyone wears dark ankle length hoodies and coats! but the weapons are all brightly colored and overdesigned! and under the hood? belts and zippers! so cool! also batman armor). It went from a cute fusion of Disney and anime to basically inventing the beltsnzippers meme, and the keyblade designs are just... the x-blade, really? The designs are literally every 13 year old deviantartist's wet dream.
Kingdom Hearts 1 was perfect, everything hit the right chord, the plot was very Disney-like which suited the setting flawlessly while having that sexy anime twist. The gameplay improves in later iterations but everything else takes a major step back
Kingdom hearts is fucking stupid, but in that fun kinda way.
The story is a mess, don't pretend it isn't man.
But yeah "too many consoles" is utterly irrelevant anymore since literally every game is on PS3 now besides III and some of the shittier ones (and almost all of them have movie versions in the PS3 ports.)
I tend to like that kind of storytelling though. Figuring stuff out is fun, but you need a starting point.
Maybe I'm dumb or missing the point but this just feels all over the place.
Getting drowned in information isn't fun.
>The story is a complete and total clusterfuck that went from "gotta save my evil? friend" to "DARKNESS AND CLONES AND 5 PEOPLE LIVING IN SORA'S HEAD AND DARKNEEEEESSSSSS"
You say this like these two things happen back to back but it's a gradual ascension over the course of several games.
>Kingdom Hearts 1 was perfect
It still has the same backloaded pacing that plagues most of the series.
Maleficent, despite having created this syndicate of villains, can't even get half of them to give a shit about her plan, which was already kinda half-baked.
Sora turns into a Pureblood Heartless even though the discrepancy between Purebloods and Emblems exists in KH1.
Not like this is a huge thing but it always bothered me.
I mean it's hard to go wrong with a plot as basic as KH1's, but I wouldn't say it's perfect.
>it's a gradual ascension
Nah, by KH2 the story was knee deep in DARKNESS with the Ansems and Nobodies, but now we're literally swimming in a pool of it
I mean it's not like I don't enjoy the games, they're fun enough but I just don't understand how someone over the age of 15 can actually enjoy where the plot has gone.
>There are people in this very thread that have been waiting for KH3 with baited breathe since 9th grade
>mfw we'll get to see the original forms of the organization members
I can't wait to see the others get more screen time.
>And respectfully fuck you, all of you, in advance
>fuck you, all of you, in advance
Who took a shit in your cereal this morning?
Even as a kid I could never get into KH conceptually.
I like FF and I like Disney but it just doesn't sound like a good combination to me. Maybe I'm missing out but I just can't get over how
goofyit is. I'm sure I'll give it a try someday but I just can't wrap my head around it.
If you have to conduct outside research in order to understand the story, it's a convoluted story.
This might as well be a food analogy for how retarded it is.
Compare and contrast Kingdom Hearts with Metal Gear Solid.
I give more points to Kingdom Hearts for having most of the significant story events occurring on-screen. With MGS, there's so much that goes on outside of what the player is presented with in-game that it's more than a little jarring.
>With MGS, there's so much that goes on outside of what the player is presented with in-game that it's more than a little jarring.
Really? I never felt like I was missing much. I mean, there are a few optional codecs here and there.
But what else is there?
KH has a problem with some of the backstory being contained within the reports and some of the explanation/further exploration of some events being in the Ultimanias/Nomura's various interviews. The first one isn't so much a problem as you can easily read them in-game the other is a bit harder if you don't know where to look for them. I can't tell you how many times I've answered a recurring question by just pulling the Ultimania. And it doesn't help that Nomura will keep his mouth shut tight on certain elements until they're relevant.
>people calling KH deviantart tier
Nigga you do realize
That this "deviantart-tier" was inspired by the designs of Kingdom Hearts in the first place
Deviantart is "Kingdom Hearts-tier"
What the literal fuck is a heart? They're humans right? So what do they call their pump blood heart?
What's society like in the KH World? It's barely explained and makes the environments feel cardboard.
The heart in KH is pretty much like what the soul generally is in other entertainment media and there's a separate concept of soul in the series too but it's not important so far. I've heard that the difference comes down to the Japanese and how it's used. I think in the JP version of BbS this lead to confusion on the part of Terra as he didn't get the fact that Queen Brunhilde meant Snow White's literal heart or something.
I want to have sex with Aqua in the missionary position for the sole purpose of procreation while
Dude, I've been waiting for Kingdom Hearts 3 since I was in 4th grade. I am now in my third year of college.
Also the phrase is "bated breath." There's no I. Bated means great suspense.
