So I'm looking for a good shooter to play, and was hoping for some recommendations.
>Not too twitchy
>Decently active community (cheaters get kicked, can always find a good number of full servers, etc.)
I guess that's mostly it. Just want something fun that isn't necessarily easy, but such that intelligence is as important as pure skill, since I play with non-tryhard hardware (3 button mouse, wireless keyboard, etc.) I play CoD4 sometimes, but looking for something new and preferably not a modern military shooter.
I wouldn't mind non-shooter recommendations either, if you have some.
I'd say Squad. As Arma 3 has turned into a RP-mod shithole for teenagers. It's fun but its definitely a challenge. I'd say more tactical than 98 percent of the shooters out today
I propose Dirty Bomb
>a bit like tf2 with less crazy abilities and normal guns
>basic freerunning, similar to brink
>pretty well balanced
>small active community
Plus it's free, so you don't risk anything by trying it out.
And before the F2P spergs start, I honestly think it's got the best F2P model out there, so yeah.
Honestly as I was reading your criteria OP Dirty Bomb seems to fit all of them. If you're interested go to /dbg/ on /vg/ and look up some more stuff, just ignore the waifufags
Did I not mention? this game has combat waifus.
go on OP
>Just want something fun that isn't necessarily easy, but such that intelligence is as important as pure skill
I'd say that Red Orchestra 2 will float your boat well. It's not as much about reaction times as it is about well placed positions and cunning, and well placed shots. You can call me casual all you want, but I find sniping in RO2 pretty hard and just stick to scope-less rifles.
Try downloading Unreal 4, its GOAT imo
>Decently active community
I'd recommend World at War but its just as twitchy as any CoD game.
Don't be afraid to at least give Unreal 4 a try since it's free
>OP will honestly now not try DB
What's your specs?
Because scopes in RO2 make another independent 1024x1024 resolution picture when in use, causing obvious FPS drop.
I used to play on 1024x768 resolution on my old laptop. Scope had better resolution than game itself.
You're most definitely not casual for finding sniping in RO2 hard. With over 300 hours I hardly touch sniper. Mainly because it's always taken, but also I can just snipe with a bolt action instead. Hitting targets in this game is the most satisfying though, since it's actual projectile.
Ill check it out.
Played it. Its ok. Too much economy bullshit.
Is it legit good? Seems kind of like a CS clone and I'm not into CS.
I actually am interested in Overwatch, but afraid the community will be insufferable and Blizzard will encourage it.
I did like Titanfall, but it just didn't have staying power for me.
Have it and just can't get into it. I just fucking horribly suck at it worse than I thought possible. I played it for like a week and I don't think I did even okay more than 3 games out of at least one hundred. I just couldn't have fun when I suck that much so I quit.
Seems kinda light on content for $60 from what I have seen. Is it?
Ill look into it. The F2P talk discouraged me, but I have been hearing that its fine more than not lately. Thanks.
Is the community good though? I thought there were only like a few hundred players at this point.
I don't mind some twitchy shit, just not so much that I feel helpless against people who play the game alot.
Ya, pretty much my thinking when I tried to think of a new one to play. There are some out there, just not really any slam dunks from what I have played.
I'm playing it on the same 4:3 resolution as you are, because I still use my old ass CRT + my shitty rig from 2009. Never noticed the picture improvement, but the fps drop hits hard.
Dude play Red Orchestra 2/ Rising Storm. One of the best FPS I've ever played. It's not for everyone and you will die a LOT when you first start, but if you're into those kind of games it's really, really good.
aka Enemy Territory: Youtube Generation Edition?
You'd be better off actually playing ET.
Speaking of RO2, I'm from the EU and I understand russian, so I can play on either the russian or the UK servers. At my playtimes there's usually 3 servers full, but I haven't played for some time.
>The F2P talk discouraged me
The game is free, but the only real downside is that you'll get retards on your team in pubs, but as long as you get to decent level of compet you won't run into any. Also some retards on either team just make it more like a MOBA.
The best DPS and Medic characters are unlocked from the start, and you'll be able to afford a new character after a good hour of playing.
Plus free rotations of all the characters periodicity.
As I said, personally I think it's the best F2P model.
tribes is coming back i think
UT and reflex are pretty darn active but lack a large playerbase, although they never were the type of games where you hit the matchmaking button and get paired up with (more or less) anonymous players anyway
Is MGO good? I already have MGSV and like the idea of multiplayer, but it seems dead on console and will probably be even more dead on PC if it ever actually comes out, which it is fucking supposed to this month. Sounded really unbalanced and I'm sure cheaters will quickly kill if there isn't anti-cheat or dedicated servers with admins to clean up.
sounds good, probably the frontrunner.
Hardly any faggotry in this thread. Surprising.
it has less players than QL but there is a lot more going on with reflex and i prefer it to QL
i wouldnt say either are "twitchy" either quake has always been kind of smooth flowing/elegant
Rainbow Six Siege. As long as you have a mic and don't suck, you will enjoy yourself. It kicks team and asset killers. Locks people out when they quit ranked matches. The gameplay promotes teamwork and chemistry.
