/v/ before /vg/ and /vp/ were created was fucking awful. /v/ has always been terrible, but it was especially bad prior to /vg/ and /vp/'s creation. Pokemon threads would routinely overrun the board to the point where you could have an entire front page of nothing but Pokemon threads. When /vp/ was created it alleviated the situation, but then you had the problem of threads about specific games or franchises constantly being on the first page.

So yes, it is bad.

the original is not unplayable or something but it's best to watch a walkthrough first before jumping into the game. that's what i did and i'm not too frustrated with the game though i do think it does play cheap tricks sometimes. looking up maps and guides also wouldn't hurt. i'm just a casual gamer by the way.

i do agree that the graphics and the music gives it a lot of charm, which is why i decided to get it. just grind for money at the dance parlour and stock up on vials/float muffins/vanishing cream before heading out.

There are a multitude of other threads for you to choose from, no one forced you in here.

Well, I think I'm done. I pushed onward and took the advice to use a guide and beat the Golem Mine and now I'm back to the Naga wasteland.

I feel as though I've decided this game isn't for me. Unending, required backtracking paired with mandatory optional items you need to grind and stock up on to progress alongside a zoomed in screen that makes the whole game a leap-of-faith death zone brings down the entire experience with NEEDING to use a guide being the cherry on top.

As a first-timer having experienced the game with zero bias, I can now say that Shantae for the Game Boy Colour isn't quite a diamond in the rough, but a small rock in the form of Shantae burried beneath 200 feet of sand.
The game has charm and potential but most certainly doesn't live to see it fulfilled.

Whether or not I move on to the next is up to you at this point because I'm completely drained of enthusiasm.
