Some other filter methods I use are to play remakes/remasters first (like Soul Hacker/Devil Survivor and more story focused ones (like Phoenix Wright).
Other than that, do not play more than 2 games at once, unless it's filler time liek a pinball game or Mario Golf.

Generally, installing RXtools or any firmware is easy if you can follow instructions and many chances to fix dumb mistakes.

The only one important thing you must make sure you do NOT FUCK UP is unlinking nands.
If you manage to do that properly and update Emunand to 10.3, you will be able to pretty much play all current releases and most releases of 2016

Overclocked adds an 8th day, higher-res sprites and voice acting. The 8th day content varies in quality, but it's generally pretty good. Spriting is alright, but this isn't a game you play for the graphics. The VA's range from alright to eardrum-shattering.

There's also some mild balance adjustments and bugfixes I think. Overall worth a pirate, even if you've beaten the original like I did.

Yes, but it depends. rxTools supports region free overall, Cakes doesn't, but you can install NTR CFW on top of Cakes to add region free capabilities. On top of that some .cias are marked as "RF" or "Region Free", indicating that the .cia can be played on any 3DS regardless of region or CFW.

Setting DNS to old tubehax doesn't help (IIRC, it wouldn't anyway).
