I played it 1-2 months after the release after that autist, Yahtzee used multiple episodes of his youtube-series to rant about how good it is. I used to look at the threads thinking "Wow, that looks fucking awful. Meme-game of the month."

Not the best game I have ever played, but certainly one of the feelsiest. The pacifist ending was a bit too sacharine for my tastes, but the overall writing, the music and the contrast with the genocide story really made the characters shine.

I disagree. If a game has great gameplay then length is less and less important, and the game is arguably more fun and rewarding. Metal Gear Rising is a good example. People make jokes about how short it is, and it is, but the game is fun. Fun enough for me to pour +40 hours into it to find collectibles and beat it on various difficulties. Borderlands 2 is a game with a lot in it, but I hardly played it because I got bored by the time I got to the hub city. Quantity means nothing if there's no quality.

Basically, you have to sell your soul to the demon you awaken in genocide to get the world back. Once you do, the demon, Chara will own you and bring this up from time to time. In a post-genocide pacifist ending, you set everyone free and all seems good, then Chara takes control of your body since he owns your soul and ruins everything.

You can never get a true good ending again unless you alter the game files.

Anyone else feel like they have a better appreciation for the game then the people who obsess over it.

I mean I played it and I had fun. I liked all the characters and the endings were good enough to keep my thinking about them for a while but sheesh. I don't get the obsessive parts of any fanbase really.

Being around for the exact day it released really gives one perspective on the how quickly /v/ can get hostile at something.

Tons of people here playing this game day 1, praising it, legitimately being caught by a surprising experience that actually made people feel actual feelings. Also, nobody was super hyped going into it.

Then other places started liking it. Particularly tumblr.

Now the game's very existence triggers /v/ due to the hype surrounding it and tumblr also liking it.

It's like the Hitler argument. You don't need to hate something because somebody you hate likes it. And vice versa, don't need to like something because somebody you hate hates it.

I wonder how people here will view Undertale in 5 years time. We now have people reminiscing about and fondly recalling Oblivion when it was initially considered a cancerous entry to the Elder Scrolls series and its death knell. I wonder how bad the next Elder Scrolls game will be to make us mildly positive towards Skyrim.
