Best RPG's you've played?
I'm thinking either of the ARPG, JRPG, or tactical/strategy genres.
For me, Chrono Trigger and Fire Emblem: Awakening
For all its flaws (and it has quite a few of them), fuck me if it doesn't have some of the best turn-based combat in an RPG
Also, people who call the Seymour boss fights hard are scrubs.
>Fire Emblem: Awakening
Are you fucking serious? Get the fuck out.
my top 3 would be
2) final fantasy tactics
3) dark souls, if that counts
Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song
Star Ocean 2
Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter
You should try Mana Khemia if you haven't already. It uses very similar battle mechanics and has some great boss battles.
Best in years
Super Mario RPG
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga
Skies of Arcadia
Best secret strategy RPG ever.
Will keep that in mind. Also
That game is #1 on my list of "older games I want to play", but I always kept putting it off because I wanted to play it on the original PS1 hardware as opposed to just emulating it.
My main problem with the plot: Yuna.
I don't mind Yuna and I like her alot (more in X-2) but screw Square for making you believe it was actually possible for Tidus to get with Rikku/Lulu. That is not possible at all because Yuna's love for Tidus is deeply woven into the plot any attempt to deviate from the story will result in just dumb fanservice scenes depending on affection values. Either let my character romance my own choice or just don't give me the illusion of choice at all. In fact, the sphere grid itself is an illusion of choice now that I think about it.
>Tfw you just had to stop playing every now and then and just listen to the music
I'm interested in the battle system, but I'm not sure about the rest of the game. Is it really open ended? Will I be totally lost when doing alchemy? Do you have to run around and kill monsters?
Final Fantasy V
Final Fantasy IX
Legend of Legaia
Legend of the Dragoon
Blue Dragon, Bravely Default, Star Ocean: Last Hope (characters and story were shit though), Nostalgia
Can't decide between FF5 for the gameplay or DQ5 for the story
I don't want to post the obvious Chrono Trigger etc, so Radiant Historia. I love it.
I've always been a fan of games that are flawed, but tried to do something different. I think these fit under arpg though
All with major issues, but very unique, followed by absolute shit sequels.
>Final Fantasy IV
>Final Fantasy VI
>Final Fantasy VII
>Final Fantasy IX
>Final Fantasy X
>Final Fantasy X-2
>Final Fantasy XII
>Final Fantasy XIII Lighting Return
I saw a "retro game" store selling this crap for $40 each a little while ago. I can't believe people buy those things even though they are inferior in function and convenience to flashcarts (and emulators) and they lack the authenticity/collecting value of real carts.
Blue Dragon? I found it to be incredibly boring. Didn't even remember that it exists.
I couldn't bring myself to finish it back in the day. Does it get better/with picking up again?
3 was okay. Not absolute shit in terms of the third, but 2 was.
Didn't have the hook that the first did or something. I think when it went handheld it definitely lost something. The story got lost in a bunch of shitty little skirmishes.
my brother of colour.
V never gets enough love
the Abyssis hands down the best RPG I've played.
>mfw the last dungeon and final boss of the game
The Grandia and Lunar games (save for Grandia 3) are still better but its definitely number 5 in my top 10 JRPGS list.
Such an original and compelling story for JRPGS, such great characters too!
