You know, for all of Minecraft's problems and all the cringe it brings with it, it's a video game. It's not a movie, it's not a cash grab or a shitty agenda pushing abomination.
It is a video game. Discuss.
i liked old minecraft better, new minecraft has no soul
the terrain generation for starters is fucking retarded in the newer versions of minecraft, there's no cool formations to find anymore and everything is flat
It made money anon, that doesn't mean it's a cash grab. It developed into something with merchandise and what not but that was based off of success. This is completely different than something like FIFA.
lots of cute autistic underage girls on there
I didn't make the thread to discuss Minecraft specifically, more just how "It is a video game" is a rare and high compliment these days. The vast majority are horrible Frankenstein monsters made of stitched together movies with the odd bit of video game glued on.
you forgot to mention that it's a SHIT video game
I still play it during summer and winter vacations with some friends I met online. It's been three years and I'm still enjoying it. But everytime, after about one or two months, when I already built almost everything I want to build it starts getting boring.
>Can play it for months straight
B-but it gets boring eventually! No shit. Minecraft has a shit load of problems but the fact that /v/ played it to death because they loved it and because of that we're all sick of it, which is the soul reason /v/ perceives it as "New minecraft is boring" is retarded.
It was a let down. /v/ didn't like where it was headed and dropped it after alpha. It wasn't hatred at that time, just disappoinment. Hatred only started when Notch sold-out to MS. MC threads hither n thither. /v/ grew tired of it to the point of hating/ignoring anything that is MC-related. Minecraft is vidya, it's just that it was such a let down.
I had some nice memories playing this in 2011. Fuck, time flies.
Can be pretty fun online.
Either with a small group of friends, or a large dangerous world with lots of strangers.
The latter need some mods though.
Shouldn't be impossible to break into other peoples stuff, but not way too easy either.
PrisonPearl and Citadel seemed to work pretty well.
>beta 1.8 was when shit started going wrong
>that was 6 years ago
The "new" biome generator they've implemented fuck knows when. I liked flying islands and steep mountains that were possible in the original biome generator. Now you can only get such beatiful landscapes with mods.
If you don't like the new terrain generation, a few days ago I decided to try Minecraft again and found this.
Seriously though, this is really cool, it's even crazier than pre-adventure update world generation.
It has floating islands and incredibly high mountains.
Oh, that's gay. Getting lost in mines was really cool in Minecraft when I used to play. Having a shaft open up into a cave system was exciting because going in would mean a good chance of good minerals, but also getting lost. Tracking your progress sounds like an awesome way to kill fun.
Also, this might be a totally buzzkilling question, but I'm really curious. Why do so many people watch Minecraft let's plays? My younger brother does and I don't get it.
My favourite are servers that have been running for more than two years and are mostly deserted.
Seeing ruins and empty houses, understanding what they needed and seeing the structures they created while seeing the wealth of each city.
To answer your question: most kids feel very lonely. They watch letsplays to see how it is to play with friends. What's sad that you can play online and make friends. But community is toxic and obnoxious, you will get stabbed in the back every time, so people don't trust anyone.
>The latter need some mods though.
>Shouldn't be impossible to break into other peoples stuff, but not way too easy either.
>PrisonPearl and Citadel seemed to work pretty well.
Then dont put all your shit so close to slawn retard
Yeah it's a real shame.
It's one button away so it is hard to ignore, and if you don't use it and you're playing with others you are just blinding yourself.
Felt great knowing the way in some caves before I learned of that, showing a friend the way.
Bothers me that people use minimap mods as well.
>Why do so many people watch Minecraft let's plays?
I have no clue.
I played minecraft last time in april I think and have never really grown to hate it, but I don't understand watching lets plays of it.
Yahtzee and Gabes drown out featured minecraft twice, but that's mostly a podcast, an hour each time.
It was kind of neat to see what Yahtzee had made, but I can't really see how that would be fun for a long time.
The cringe is just due to the children and autists who play it.
It never used to be like that. I played the shit out of it back in the day and loved it, but I'm not sure when, at a certain update it started getting shit and I lost interest.
>Just fired up MC because I've been thinking about dipping my toes in again
>'Realms price drop for christmas'
>wtf is a realm
>Read the article
>They want to charge $13/mo to host servers...
I remember the first prototype of the game and the long wait between creative and survival. Yeah, I'm pretty sure even then Notch was already ready for his billions. The game is not a cashgrab, not until fundamentals were done, that is after OoooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo updates and, maybe, alpha. After that - yes, the development was purely done because of money and not genuine care for the game
new minecraft is boring because they butchered the terrain generation after 1.7something
minecraft used to feel like a fantasy world with crazy randomly generated terrain and now it uses the dumb biome system and everything is flat just with a different gimmick
This is the only point I've really heard that I completely agree with when people say Minecraft got shitty because of development. The terrain change was a definite downgrade and really ruined a huge amount of the fun of the game. I remember the first few hours whenever I would play way back when were spent just looking for the perfect spot to build my little house, just finding the most unique and inspiring piece of terrain. Now it's just some hills and boring garbage.
Halloween update and Nether, which is still almost useless. I just don't rememeber much of anything added of fixed after the update, except for villagers and hunger bar. It was the last update where I saw actual development of the game, if you ask me.
Obviously I want to play something that isn't hobo hide and seek you mong.
I want to play a game where you can build with other people.
Hiding your building is a bandaid that doesn't address anything, eventually someone will come across it. That is why your post much like yourself is useless nonsense.
Ars magica, the first one.
It relied heavily on exploration, which was one of my favorite things about minecraft, and the spells were fun to use. I felt it was enhanced by the mo creatures mod since it has wyverns and flying horses you can ride.
>tfw abandoned for Ars magica 2, which is shit
>want to play something like industrialcraft
>too lazy to download mods
>end up playing vanilla on a multiplayer server
>building towns without any help
I just can't find good people that don't want to build rainbow cubes in desert fortress or attract enemies that can bury everything in lava overnight.
I fucking miss just playing vanilla survival no rules PvP with NO FUCKING MODS and NO FUCKING WHITELIST. WITH griefing allowed. None of that protection bullshit. That shit is so gay.
That shit was fun. As long as there was like a dedicated mod/admin to ban hackers/dupers if they ever came on. It was nice in the early days too because nobody would know how to build the best base or anything like that and some people were creative or worked together. Had some memorable days of raiding other people's bases and such, fucking with other people, mining diamond, those huge as fuck mineshafts, etc. Although I do miss some of the old terrain as people pointed out already. I would play it again if I could find a decent server that doesn't have any gay ass mods and a nice population.
I remember every time they added new shit people would say "it's just the beta version! Of course they will add new shit!"
Even though most fans were happy the way things were and just wanted to build cool stuff in weird terrain
>t was the last update where I saw actual development of the game
minecraft devs fucking suck at adding content to thegame
for literally the best selling and highest grossing game of all time mojang sure doesn't fucking care about doing anything with their game, their studio is small as fuck, they really need to hire some more dudes
Sure your base that no one ever sees is surely great and no one will ever find it because you hid it perfectly, whatever.
Citadel and PrisonPearl still makes it a fun multiplayer game while without it isn't.
>minecraft thread in 2016
It hurts too much. I remember everything.
the problem with modding is it's fucky, most mods don't work with 1.8 and a lot of popular mods only work with old versions of the game
if the mc devs were competent they'd just release a mod API
My fondest memory of Minecraft was running a server for pirated clients that was no mods, no whitelist, and while you could grief, if it was something major like fucking up a entire building or spamming things, I'd just ban them for a few days
Small silly shit I either gave them a warning or just kicked them for a minute if I felt like it
I miss that server, good times were had
if modders don't care about upgrading mods (tons of actively developed shit is still at 1.6.4) what makes you think they will upgrade them to work with the modding api (that will probably break at each upgrade as well)?
not to mention that it will probably be way different from forge and whatever mod frameworks people use making it even more unlikely
>use to play in a big minecraft server full of great players
>the server gets shut down because of mony problems
>the admin upload the map so everyone can download it
>tfw walking for the empty streets of the map, remembering everything that happened and that now is past
The darkest of feels.
i beat all the fun out of the game with efficiency
>mine down to Z:12 eye in stair case pattern
>mine in 2 high 1 wide tunnel straight until you get bored
>get every single mineral you'll ever need
>diamond in the first 10 min
not even worth exploring caves anymore until you break into an abandoned mine then you look for chests
whats the point of having a vanilla server if you can't even fucking "grief" or whatever pussies call it. its called making a good house/base and defending it well/keep it out of sight
> just don't be a complete ass
in other words I can ban you whenever I want b-b-because you're griefing!
>I was a total cunt to everyone on a server that I couldn't even properly set up
>not having an admin/moderator/anticheat on the server to ban cheatfags
>not having a base near resources or underground farms in your base
>implying being raided when your not there isn't part of the fun and tracking your enemy and getting shit back
And even then my initial post was about earlier Minecraft days when people didn't cheat as much
Whats the point of building a nice creation if no one can see it because they can destroy it in a few minutes and you have to fucking build underground?
Seems that the only way to create nice things without getting them destroyed in a server without rules is to walk thousands of miles and never see a player for the rest of your gameplay, which is pretty much like playing singleplayer.
what the fuck who said anything about nice creations in pvp vanilla servers
the entire point is to farm diamond/build mob grinders/farms/etc or steal from others to kill/grief other bases/people in the server. or do whatever you want. form a band of people or group of friends u can trust and build something above ground and defend it if u want. if you want to build nice little pretty things just play creative lmao
Me and some guys once made a 2x2 chunk tower that went from 0 to 256 on a PvP server. It was completely impenetrable, with a layer of sand and water to prevent withers.
Because of that, a skeleton grinder, and an alliance with one other faction, our little band of 4 became the server heavyweight.
>casually join friend on a server
>convinced friend to cover the sky above someone's castle with dirt, and put lava falls in gaps over specific areas
>that someone was a egotistic shitter who the admin and mods sucked up to because female, but friend despised
>the shitter realised what happened and forced the admin into closing the server for a week or two, interrogating the users
>the shitter later went afk because school or some shit
>convinced friend to place obsidian all through shitter's doorways, and surround shitter in a bedrock room with obsidian-filled doorway
>shitter got the server shutdown and had everyone interrogated again
>some other fag was banned for stealing diamonds
>tfw they never found out who it was, and the shitter ragequit the server for good
>tfw i spent the entire summer learning some moonrunes
totally worth it desu
>you will never play creative before creative was a thing again
>>implying underground base can be saved from cheatfags
actually since 99% of xray mods do NOT hide lava blocks by default, if you make an underground base inside a huge ass lava pool (or just make an artificial lava pool around it after) and put some random empty chests on the surface to trick radarfags you are quite secure
>ran a few servers
>made some good friends
>got bored of game
>no reason to contact old buddies anymore
>too worried about being weird to find new games to play
I'm such an autistic fuck that I'm actually having an easier time creating a new game from scratch just so I have reason to talk to my friends again without looking desperate for socialization. I didn't even realize this until I started typing it.
Is anyone else in this boat? I doubt it, it's pretty fucking specific, but who knows?
