Anyway, Metroid Thread, starting with best Varia suit.
Post images, webms, theories,
hopes and dreams for Metroid U
Tanabe is our man for the Prime series so we should be safe. Unfortunately I don't think Sakamoto will let Prime continue the story from Fusion so it'll probably be it's own thing again.
Nintendo should just take it away from him. Though I'll admit I finished Other M and didn't hate it as much as other people, but maybe that's because I played it while I was still hyped for a new Metroid. The story and writing was complete shit though.
It's funny because if you go back and read the interviews with Tanabe and the other ones with Retro, there's some noticeable animosity between the Nintendo guys in Japan who want a Metroid game to look like X, and the Retro guys actually making it to look like Y. I'll give Tanabe props for having to be the middleman for that development cycle. It's very clear that Nintendo Japan meddling could have made Prime total shit.
That would never happen, they have them on a tight leash. Best that could happen is they "give" them the franchise, but they still have to make the game according to what the suits say. Which is still a lot better than having sakamoto at the helm.
they were reportedly burnt out by the time Prime 3 rolled around. probably didn't want to be known as the 'metroid guys'.
Also, between Prime trilogy and Donkey Kong, a fair amount of staff left.
Mm Too mary sue opness for me, I'd go with a Space Marines suit.
True but still. It should be 'their' franchise, along with Donkey Kong. Let them do whatever they want with it, including NOT making a Metroid game if they don't want to. Let them even make a new IP if they so choose.
And yeah, it's a shame so much of the staff left.
I guess they should just be left to do whatever game they want, since they've already shown to be extremely competent, but that rarely happens.
At the very least, they should have a secondary role in any new Metroid game, as advisers if anything.
I'm scared because Metroid is at that point where Miyamoto could just step in and go "REBOOT TIME" because he thinks he owns Metroid now for some reason.
As much as Ohter M not being canon makes me happen, it also means we lose everything else and go back to just Metrid fucking around on Zebes with jack all else.
Reminder that the Varia Suit is the best suit of powered armor in all of gaming and that it, along with Samus' other suits, are way better than that dreck.
Christ, I love this thing. I wish Nintendo would just make a new Metroid already.
Something that I've always wanted since I was a kid was a Metroid spinoff, while still having Metroid gameplay.
Or a game with more emphasis in big worlds and exploration, but that would upset the speedrunners.
I actually always wanted a big Metroid game, with several planets and an open world, but I've seen how hard it is to make an open world game interesting.
I think the
PED suitis the best looking, because of how bulky it is and the "built in a garage with spare parts" feel it has.
That's also why I liked the Dark suit more than the iSuit.
I honestly wouldn't mind a reboot by this point. But they really should make a game set after Fusion too.
I can understand the appeal, honestly. It's not something that I'm crying out for, but it mite b gud if done right.
PED Suit is my least favorite out of all the Prime era suits. Dark and Light Suits both were two of my favorites in the whole series. Only thing with the Light Suits that I don't like are the knees, which should be more round.
Both were sleek and sexy as fuck.
To each their own. Personally, my least favorite would have to be the Phazon Suit, only because the color clashed with the aesthetics of everything else, but I didn't really dislike it.
>mfw if Metroid Prime 4 launches on the NX in 1080p (60fps is a given)
>only because the color clashed with the aesthetics of everything else
That's why I don't like the knees of the Light Suit.
It really clashes with the aesthetic of the rest of the suit. It's clearly meant to be rounder and more organic-looking, and then there's those jagged, spiky knees there for some reason. They got it right with the Dark Suit, not sure why they did that for the Light Suit.
Christ, I just want a Metroid game with some new suits already.
And faster, slicker gameplay to go with those sleek as fuck suits.
Has anyone here ever done a 1% run of Metroid Fusion?
They did replace them with some high quality people thankfully. Didn't they hire a ton of people from Naughty Dog that quit when their suits wanted to focus on cinematic experiences?
I'm still shit at this, but something like that or rounder?
Miyamoto produced Prime 1. He's the one who whipped Retro into shape and I vaguely recall an ex Retro dev describing his visits as if Darth Vader suddenly walked into the room.
can we stop doing Metroid "in-general" threads? thread gets easily beaten too many idiot shitposters.
if there's a thread talking about one of the games, tube, or the hunters, go there. if it's just le other m bait or some thinly veiled Me/h/troid thread, avoid it.
I'd rather it have a different name. Not saying Prime can't be a part of that name though. The Prime games, baring the DS spin off, were about Metroid Prime and Phazon. Both of which are gone. So now they're using Prime to mean first person metroid, this is why Fed. Force has Prime in the name. Call it "Metroid Prime: Subtitle" or something, not 4.
That's for NES.
If you want to experience it from the beginning play that one. Zero Mission for GBA is a reimagining of the original, but with easier controls, prettier graphics, but some people will tell you to play the original first.
>That's for NES.
oh, really? guess i'll download an NES emulator then. also, of course i'll play the original first.
whenever there's a remake, i try my best to play the original first. MGS1 > Twin Snakes, etc.. etc..
I wish I could do speedruns. My autism doesn't let me finish the game without finding all the items I can get. In the Prime games always waste a lot of time just looking at things.
Yeah, I guess there's different kinds of fans. I don't mind spinoffs because they don't have anything to do with the main games, and they might even open the door to more games if it does well. As long as they're good, the more the better.
Pinball came between the Prime games iirc, whereas we're in a lull now. The art style is a poor choice for a game claiming to be part of the Prime series, and being claimed part of the Prime series after so long, particularly after Other M, tastes sour. The gameplay itself is allegedly a slowed and dumbed down version of the Prime controls, which made it drag on at the demo showing even in the short time playing it.
I'm cautiously looking forward to it, but these are the reasonings as I understand them.
This is the widescreen mod https://www.dropbox.com/s/xuzkz9sxnhxu6iq/MetroidPrimeWidescreen.rar?dl=0
It's got some issues, which are detailed in the readme, but it works and is playable, nothing game breaking.
>tfw got a 100% Scan Rate on Echoes on my first try
Whoop dee fucking doo, you want a cookie?
How did you know, did you use a guide?
Imagine a game about magical girl Samus
instead of bounty hunting she retires and settles in a peaceful planet (no husband)
but then aliens sometimes attack so she transform to the Power Suit and save the day
but instead of magical girl she's technological girl
I haven't slept for 38 hours
Why yes anon, I could totally go for a cookie right now.
It was generally just word of mouth that alerted me of most of the missable scans like Alpha Sandigger and Dark War Wasps. Seriously, Echoes is super punishing when it comes to 100% scans. But once you get it it feels so rewarding.
I always thought it'd be cool as fuck to have Western comic book-style alternate universe versions of Samus Aran, including magical girl Samus.
I'm biased because Zelda is my second favorite, but I'd play te shit out of a crossover Zelda/Metroid. Though those others sound more plausible.
Pikmin takes place in Hyrule in a distant future after Hylians went through a technological revolution, and then died off.
>Pikmin not taking place way after W101 since that one's set on Earth at least
>also yfw you just realized that since Star Fox is an alternate universe of F-Zero, which takes place in the same universe as Metroid, logically there's an alternate furry version of Samus somewhere
What kind of animal would she be?
>I'm just curious for laughs haha.
>Do you think she would get embarrassed when she poos the eggs out in front of grey voice?
Considering that Samus was specially trained for years to use her power suit I think most technology is gonna be expensive junk to other humans. I mean Samus actually knows how to interface with that stuff, I'm sure that alone is a skill very very few possess.
Reminder that Metroid Fusion ends with Samus and Adam destroying the BSL and SR388 in defiance of the Federation's orders. In the ending, Samus reflects on how the galaxy at large will now consider her a criminal.
Reminder that Other M is actually Federation propaganda designed to make Samus look stupid and weak and to make Adam look heartless and incompetent.
>a few months after the end of fusion
>a woman enters a bar, sees the wanted posters with her face
>the bartender recognizes her, but tells her he's on her side, he knows she's a good person
>the woman relaxes, and orders her drink
>not 2 minutes pass before a group on federation soldiers enter the bar, asking her to go quietly
>she dashes past them and calls her gunship
>soldiers give chase, ordering her to surrender over the radio the whole way, they don't want to hurt her they say
>suddenly, a disturbance, a colossal ship appears, pirates
>she tells the soldiers to run, it's too much for them, they seem reluctant but in the end they know who they're dealing with
>a gunship comes out of the ship, seems familiar, but definitely not a space pirate vessel
>a bright light, no chance to fight
>cut to a strange room, no one there but her, complete silence, her armor is gone
>she can't let them learn its secrets
>the game starts
It's kind of hard to give the game a survival horror vibe with her armor on, unless you introduce an insanely op enemy like SA-X.
And What is wrong with not having the armor since the beginning?
>Only a small section of the GF were doing the Metroid cloning and X research on the BSL
>But they're able to hide/destroy evidence and get the rest of the GF on their side
>Samus is branded an ecological terrorist
>her mission on Zebes is declassified, at least in part
>the planet's destruction is labeled as her fault and just the start of her "reign of terror"
>Samus force to flee into regions of space outside the GF's influence
With Metroid there's a very easy and 100% reliable litmus test to determine if it's gonna be good or shit right off the bat. Does Samus spend any sigificant amount of time outside her suit? If yes, it's a shit game. It's that easy. Also a survival horror Metroid game is not only stupid on principal since isolation and horror are two entirely different themes, but Fusion is pretty close to what you want and you still get to keep the suit on. Any idea involving the ZS can be dismissed.
I saw a paper at my tour of the Nintendo college in washington state that said METROID REVOLUTION but the L was backwards, always wondered if that would be the next game. I was sad to see Federation Force was announced instead but maybe it's still coming.
Smash 3 render of light suit
it looks like it's made out of clay
