Never played an EDF game would this be a good start?

Basically what the others said. It's the best game in the series and one of my favourite games full stop. I absolutely murdered it several times from scratch already, so at this point I find it a little hard to go back to, but in a year or two I'll probably start it again.

Yeah. I guess the story is technically a sequel to EDF 2017 but it doesn't really matter. Hell it has a lot of the best levels just ported over.

The important thing to keep in mind is that in seven years, they have evolved. And Giant Insects can't fly, so the Wing Divers will make short work of them. Since Giant Insects can't fly we definitely can win this battle. I'm getting married after this battle! And did you know Giant Insects can't fly? There's no way the Wing Divers can lose.

It's like dynasty warriors or something, each version kinda replaces the previous.
Sometimes they slide a bit and dont get all the features (like 2017 on 360 was missing some stuff from EDF2) but this one is kind of a superset of everything that came before.

TLDR 4.1 is what you want. It's not quite madden or something but generally they only get better over time. And there's not even a jokey continuity, it's really the definition of chill game.

Best place to start

I've got a similar question. I grabbed 2025 on the PS3 a few months back (for 50 fucking dollars, kind of mad about that) and didn't play it too much. I ended up getting annoyed at having to replay levels with other characters to grind up some decent weapons for them, and I never really made it past the 10th mission or so.

I hear 4.1 is a remaster of 2025, but should I grab it for my ps4, or just play 2025 and hope I get into it?

The story is unimportant. It's so minimal. Even the endings are like 2 seconds of congrats you saved earth and that's it. Don't bother with story of the previous games, its just one legendary solider fought and saved the world. That's pretty much it.

I'm not surprised about the score. Most western gaming journalists are useless hacks. Just look at how they scored God Hand. Or how corrupted some of them are that they will give their friend's games a 10/10 when it clearly does not deserve it (Gone Home).

I know the Fencer is slow but I also read people say it's the best class and moves quite quickly if you can do animation cancels. how true is that and can I get a video of it? all I find are slow fencers

otherwise I'll go with the vehicle/artillery guy. is he viable on difficult missions?

sure you can use him singleplayer, but you'd be better off using better classes if you're playing single player
