Benchmarking is , a waste of time and money. Most of the games that I play don't have amazing graphics. I don't play games that often and am away from home 5-6 days a week, so everything I do is on a laptop or over a handheld.

I've thought about making a lowprofile computer but there aren't a whole lot of games to justify building one.

I almost went with the 980 build instead with 1151 sockets, but it just seemed like the performance increase compared to price increase wasn't worth it, and all of that extra money could have been spent on shit like SSDs and Wireless cards.

PC has already proven to be an unsustainable platform for higher end software development, it's the very reason why bungie and other devs left the paltform in droves years ago. An industry plagued by indies and AAA because we denied the importance of middle men, publishers and console manufactures is a bad industry and right now we're flying into it head first ]especially as PC gaming is becoming a consumer tradition and is slowly amassing major influence over the industry. What we don't want to take into account is the huge amount of b-level developers that produce console ip's and exist because consoles exist, those who aren't as rich as AAA developers but those who can't survive independently or through crowd funding. Those games are important and the the ones which we should not piss away so carelessly.

Even this is still an over-simplification on the importance of publishers/consoles and what console manufacturers do behind the scenes. Kojimas new studio also wouldn't have been possible without Sony if gaming was forced to go PC exclusively. Consoles support much more than just first party titles and AAA games. The average consumer is usually so brainwashed by anti-corporate convictions yet blind to the fact that they are the ones who are simply able to get shit done in this volatiel industry and will glady destroy their ability to do it if not to stick it to the man and save a couple dollars on steam.

This is what I don't like about Steam, cutting out the middle man a.k.a publishers is something that multiple industries have had delusions of doing for over a decade and the people who try always hit the same barriers that anyone else does, primarily money.

I'm struggling to think of a good, full game that doesn't look like utter shit that was made independently on PC and sold well. So far I'm coming up with Castle Crashers. FTL is a good example but that was by virtue of Kikestarter, which is another can of worms altogether and shouldn't be seen as an easy "way out" of publishers existing.

Something like Bloodborne, for our example here, being made by a team with nobody funding them is fucking laughable and if not literally impossible. I'd venture to guess that no less than 300 people had a hand in actually developing that game, and I'm not counting the thousands that number jumps to when you account for everyone who had a hand in its release.

People have tried to buck off the middlemen in everything. Indie film especially; people just want to grab a good camera, make their art, and become known. Same with garage bands. Nobody wants to think about how much bullshit goes into actually selling your product on a large scale, and sooner or later, they all go looking for someone to distribute their shit for them because it's an industry unto itself. All those indie bands and little visionary directors work with big studios and labels sooner or later or just fade into obscurity.

I think the big problem with steam is that it made video games worthless in the eyes of PC gamers by devaluating their prices to extreme levels. As a AAA developer you make a fraction of the console profit because everyone is waiting for the game to go under $10. As a AA developer it's even worse, you are forced to go with discount on launch and even then some faggots say that $15 for a 60 hours long 9/10 game is too much.

I don't think PC will be able to continue that way for very long, there's always talk about how every one is now porting their games on PC but the sales and profits are fractional. At this rate it's going to scare console buyers and these middlemen will be forced to either die or make shitty mobile games for Japan.
