Warcraft 3 is an amazing game. I'd give an arm and a leg for an HD version, just so I could play it again. One of my greatest regrets from adolescence is not playing this game more.

I'm sorry, but I have no sympathy for the people who complain about buying packs in Hearthstone.

That is how the medium works, that's how it's worked for 30 years, the people who bitch about it don't play card games on any real competitive level. If you want to be good, you have to spend hundreds of dollars to build your deck. Either by opening booster pack after booster pack, or seeking out the cards individually and paying what is usually somewhat jacked up prices. It's a game format based on collection, and collecting things costs money.

When it comes to gameplay rebalancing, Blizz actually does listen to its fans. Probably to an unhealthy degree because forumgoers are the first to scream NERF NOW the second they're not top of the charts in pvp.

When it comes to story matters though they are a complete echo chamber, the outside world doesn't exist to them.

It's a joke on /m/ from this dev interview where the guy clearly has a very narrow view of what a mech is.

Honestly, it is WoW although it's understandable why so many on /v/ say they hate it. They absolutely struck gold. They drew in the hardcore nostalgic crowd with Vanilla, opened the doors for casual players, then developed a system that fostered a community with each server. New players admired and aspired to be like the level 60s, lvl 60s explored every nook and cranny and formed groups while solo players did their own thing. It had something for every single type of gamer and changed the entire PC industry.

What killed the game and the franchise is that they milked the shut out of it. BC was when they realized they didn't need to put much effort into developing and they'd make plenty of money just barely updating the game. Here we are years later and what have they updated? Barely anything and yet it's still on par with other games that have come out recently. Only contrarian faggots deny this and it is sad the game is a lifeless corpse still being miles and shredded with micro transactions and spinoffs like Hearthstone and HoTS, but saying it was a shit game and always will be is objectively wrong.

War3 had an over-the-top fantasy soap opera with a bunch of handholding escort missions for a campaign, and melee mode which was so godawful that it needed extensive modification just to be tolerable online.

War2's campaign was basically 'we need to kill the orcs / humans' x10, and that's all it needed to be, and each mission had a number of ways to approach it. Multiplayer wasn't nearly as cutthroat competitive as BroodWar and wasn't nearly as focused around a handful of hero units like War3, instead it was fun.

Diablo 1 and Bloodthorne were also pretty good. Lost Vikings was basically just fart jokes repeated ad-nauseum.
