>>323445185 The spin slashing etc that people claim "i-it's j-just skill g-guys!" made everything look and feel utterly fucking retarded. It had good mechanics though and feinting fools in then shanking them felt satisfying, but the way that the combat worked otherwise was a total turn off.
>>323454909 Reverse overheads are fine, you are just bad.
>extreme sensitivity drags that let people swing 360 Yeah, except that Chivalry has a thing called a "turn-cap". You can turn your DPI up to a million and it won't matter because the second you attack, your sensitivity gets locked to a certain DPI.
>>323455864 regular swings with the zwei hit in a 180 cone, by swinging only 180 degrees you hit everything in a full circle. It only requires you to drag across a decent mousepad. Turn cap doesn't work
>Reverse overheads are fine they aren't physics doesn't work that way
most game communities suck but I really enjoyed it back when there was VOIP. The game was much more fun in general and it also had more personality. Seems like the game pulled itself away from that and went a more corporate casual approach rather than leaving the game at what made it so great. Then they they added a bunch of casual features and really did nothing to improve the experience. Its kinda funny because the ultimate warrior version of the game is actually better than the main game now(granted that still doesnt really compare to my experience with the game in its state in the past)
>>323454909 >extreme sensitivity drags that... I'm so tired of retards complaining about drags when they know absolutely nothing about how it actually works. There's a fucking sensitivity-cap during attacking and parrying.
game reached flavor of the month status with the youtube crowd who picks up on every new niche game and when someone else blinded them by hype marketing they moved on leaving a small band of good players and the rest are callous try hard morons. Sadly this is the fate of most games like this
>>323456779 >muh realism part of the reason I was interested in chivalry in the first place was because it advertises itself as a mostly realistic medieval combat game. I want the medieval combat to make sense and not use impossible physics.
It's like if you were playing battlefield and all the enemies started flying around shitting rockets like UT, realism has it's place and I believe chiv would be better suited to realistic combat.
>>323457371 >360s are easy No one said they were hard faggot.
>>323457380 The problem is that you've gotten into your head that it has to be realistic in principle, but the truth is it wouldn't be realistic even if we followed your advice as there's more things to address than spinning. From a video-game perspective there's absolutely no objective argument as to why spinning is bad.
>>323457818 >I'm so tired of retards complaining about drags when they know absolutely nothing about how it actually works. >There's a fucking sensitivity-cap during attacking and parrying. he literally did
>From a video-game perspective there's absolutely no objective argument as to why spinning is bad. I want a realistic video game ba-bam
>>323458315 >it's not a valid argument because I said so
>If it's not touted as realism It was though, originally they claimed "most ambitious realistic swordfighting" or something along those lines
>>323458354 >Video games >Realistic why can't I pick both why do you fags have to ruin literally every game by being so casual that you can't handle a little realism >waah I died when he cut my leg off >whoa I love being a space muhreen that can soak 50,000 bullets before even breaking a sweat
Damage had no speed calculation, In mount and blade if someone decided he was going to try and be clever and hit you with a war cleaver at the exact start of his swing it will whiff and do no damage and will soon have an awlpike in his guts. In this it doesn't matter in the slightest of how fast the weapon is moving or at what point in the swing the opponent is hit, the damage calculation is flat.
>>323459015 >>it's not a valid argument because I said so It's not an argument at all, that's why it's invalid >>If it's not touted as realism >It was though, originally they claimed "most ambitious realistic swordfighting" or something I'm looking at Chivalry store page. It says nothing about realistic gameplay.
>>323459680 >if by "fix" you mean "break" If by "break" you mean they wouldn't work then that's a-ok in my books, there's no reason your sword moving at a snail's pace should inflict the same damage as the sped-up version
>>323459785 No, what I want is a realistic video game >>323459814 and I stopped playing it after it turned into "who can drag the hardest" >>32345980 it sure is >I want x realistic mechanic >why >because I want realism >>323459941 >implying we ever left >>323460090 I seriously doubt that, games on PC don't "die" unless their servers get shut down, and even then people still play them.
>>323460418 I'm just browsing the front page so not even going to read the full conversation, but if your referring to weapons doing an exact amount of damage regardless of when the swing connects, physics don't work that way.
In fact if you've played a non-shit game like Mount&Blade, in that game your swing has to land properly with a proper distance between you and your opponent. If for example you have a spear and your opponent is in your face, stabbing will result in a "Poke" where no or little damage occurs. The same applies if you swing a sword and your opponent is literally standing next to you.
i cant believe people are so held hostage by the hours they put into this once great game that they would defend nonsensical exploits like reverse overheards that make the game unintuitive and unfun
a 'git gud' exploit is something like wavedashing or bunnyhopping, the presence of them improve the game, add depth, options and strategy, but chivalry's exploits are dumb and remove skill that was once required
replace the combat system with mount&blade's and it will become a 10x better game
The majority of this games problems stem from one thing-there isn't a Damage gradient throughout the length of your swing. Strikes should do the most damage towards the middle/end of a swing. The tail end and beginning should do less depending on the type of weapon used, as in warband.
>>323457131 >The skill-celling would be ridiculously low otherwise. And what exactly is the problem with that? The most fun I had with the game was shortly after I picked it up right after it launched, and neither I or anyone else had any idea what we were really doing.
>>323445185 The game died when they ruined fists and every other fucking single handed weapon and made knights unkillable unreachable faggots and they kept making it worse and worse and worse every week until everyone stopped playing because we got tired of relearning the game physics every mother fucking week.
Old fists https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjaJH2XSZW0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZUflrnPT0U New fists https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=en8gOmOIV4M
>>323445324 git gud you fucking crybaby I used to get like 60 kills a match by shoving arrows in your heads and who knows how many assists because I timed it so when you went to swing your shit, I shoved a warbow arrow into your fucking guts. I bet you are one of those faggots that would try to kill me while im using my bow and I bait you close and switch to fists and straight punch you in the face and interrupt your shit.
>>323458142 The warbow does like 1/3rd the damage it used to last I heard. How fucking much more do these faggots want?
>>323457536 >archers dont matter Nigger if you stopped moving id put an arrow in your head out snipe all the archers on your entire team and bleed you tons of tickets if you were constantly moving, id shove an arrow in your chest and forget you, which would leave you in 1hit range for any of my teammates.
But you are right. Having to relearn everything after each patch got fucking annoying. Fuck Torn Banner, they didn't realize what a great game they had on their hands and fucked it to hell by listening to whiny retards that couldn't git gud.
I think I am one of the first draggers. About a week into release I would use a two handed sword, jump into a crowd screaming "THREEEEEE SIXTYYYYYYYYT" over the mic flail my mouse to the right, and get like 5 kills every time because knights are tanks and I could install hit all of them at once. Dragging is not skillful at all and does nothing to improve the game. It just makes a disconnect between the animation and what's actually happening. It means you have to have meta knowledge you can't really glean from playing. Dumb.
I like that aiming influences where you swing, but saying it isn't broken as fuck is hilariously wrong. Also duelers are fucking stupid and ruin every good server.
>>323465104 >I played tribes and cpma for over a decade competitively And if some casual scrub comes and says that Tribes is too hard and should be made easier and simpler so that casual scrubs like himself won't get completely shit on, you'd be OK with that?
>>323465508 If it made me enjoy it more yeah. I don't bind myself to mechanics, especially if they're inherently flawed. In the case of Ascend the jetpack movement was already fucked before they nerfed speed. Leveling the playing field because you're too incompetent to fix a broken mechanic is preferable imo.
>>323464927 Autism? You want to see autism? Let me play men at arms with firepot and stand next to the ammo chest and throw firepots nonstop at you guys every 4 secs. Sometimes id throw them at teammates just for dramatic effect of flaming knights running at you.
>>323464484 I think it was more the competitive people complaining about a mechanic on extremely high end gameplay where you could like prewind inside people and hit them so it was unblockable which they catered too and ruined the gameplay for average people who have no idea how to play at that level and so all youd have to do is >>323453602 or SOW or claymore and just spin around getting like triple kills.
It probably would of been fine if they made single handed weapons longer, but they introduced this like 1m bubble around everyone and kept the weapons the same length.
So you never could hit anything because your weapon wasnt long enough and if you got close, youd get pushed away by that bubble. So youd miss practically anything and longer weapons became even more powerful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=en8gOmOIV4M
My favorite patch was the claymore or the halberd patch where they swung like 2x faster than any weapon like dagger speed and all i did was hold left mouse button down and parry and swing like 4x faster than anyone and you were impossible to be killed by anything but maybe getting faked by a Maul.
>buy chivalry on release >great massive battles >battles actually took time and felt like a slog, yiou would fight the player inf ront of you and break through holes in the defences >epic duels at the end where players woulkd block, parry, feint and do fairly no glitchy swings >no drags >quite a lot of tks now
now we have >hardly any big battle servers >battle revolve around players kiting the men in front, sprining past their enemies down the line and getting back stabs will doing air jumps and crouches >noone ever fights the min in front of you, as soon as people come across any resistance they turn around and run off >literal playstyles where greatswords stab, 360 and run off, all in the same spring animation >epic duels are now glitch fests where each player tries his best to exploit the shoddy physics system with overhead swings. back breaking limbo dodges, air jumps, pike kiting and every other exploit under the sun >game no longer feels like a medieval battle game, but instead shitty exploit simulator.
>>323466753 feinting is as broken as the rest of the game, maybe they changed it but on release you could feint up to the point in a swing where your hitbox became active, which caused them to become a totally unreactable guess between feint or no feint
>>323466942 >tfw my friends and I used to play as a phalanx squad >3 knights up front >1 vanguard in back >1 man at arms moving throughout >Im archer in middle >we push our way through the map and objectives >tfw friends tower shield blocks arrows coming for you >mfw I feel completely safe shooting arrows at people
>>323467696 Rocket jumping >Takes skill >Requires the acquisition of a RL in the first place >Has a tradeoff of health >Is a clever use of intuitive physics instead of bad physics >Adds depth, strategy and meaningful options to both you and your opponent
>>323454204 >Feinting is too easy to perform compared to how powerful they are. >Too many retards complaining about "exploits" like dragging and backswings.
>feints are too ez (((( >dragging and backswinging is hard ))))
shut the fuck up you dumbass mongoloid the game is way more balanced for feints than it is for all the other stupid shit the "competitive" community pulls, especially shit like lookdown/lookup overhead alternation which is literally uncounterable at any ping above 50
>>323470987 you can't use your reflexes to block a lookdown overhead from a greatsword above 50 ms ping. you will get hit the exact instant that the animation shows signs of beginning. so unless you are inhuman and have a reaction time of 100-150ms or something, you will have to block pre-emptively, which will open you up for a look-up overhead or just waiting 0.3 seconds before swinging your sword. the game isn't really balanced for attacks that have no telegraphs.
you can do the same thing with the norse sword stab but it's 100% more cancerous to do it with the greatsword because it deals like half your health as damage.
if there was something wrong with what i said, please correct me
I played the ps3 port, and although it's very fun when the connection is good the performance is garbage. It was released at the end of 2014 and still no patch for any of the issues. The devs dont give a shit, they won't support any console port.
>>323472076 what the hell is torn banner doing nowadays anyway
surely chivalry made enough money to start a new project
>>323472771 it really requires some crazy mental gymnastics to think feinting is bad but all the other shit is okay. like, if a guy is just gonna sit there defensively with a greatsword out and i'm a man at arms, what else am i supposed to do besides feint? i know he's not going to trade attacks with me because he's so invested in his lookdown-overhead riposte playstyle, so there's no reason not to feint literally every time.
>try to get into horde mode >the dev-supported horde mode is fairly fun and actually has you hold out in a dungeon-crawler like scenario, where kills and points give you better weapons and abilities respectively >but the devs hardly ever update it and lategame just throws as many super-buffed as possible enemies with 500 health and 80% damage reduction at you as possible >and the spawning system is fairly flawed to the point where mobs will only spawn if a player occupies that room and only up to a certain limit, so most people just go all rooms open and camp the room with the narrowest opening >the town version suffers from the same beefed up enemies but mid to late game just involves kiting all of the mobs into infinity since they can't catch up to you and all have at least 200 health >at least it has an upgradable ballista and more enemy variety
>try to get into the sandcastle defense version >map is actually impossible to defend because of undead archers with a sight range of a mile and 100% accuracy if you're standing still >map is way too big to defend outdoors >mobs are beefed up even worse and can't be staggered or stunned >donor-only weapons that are overpowered >the only way to kill anything lategame is to lure the mobs nearby traps and use a long/heavy weapon to hit them into spikes >community filled with backseat moderator faggots not even the good weapons like ballista crossbow do any decent damage late game, everything but greatswords and bastard swords is useless
this is the only game I still consistenly play. It isnt perfect, but besides quake or something, this game (at least duel mode) is completely based on skill. Who ever is more skilled will win. No gay ass quick time events, just reaction and timing is what matter most. Its a great fucking game.
>>323445185 Autists taking the game way too seriously and spending thousands of hours practicing how to break the shitty combat engine in order to give some semblance of depth to a really shallow game. It was fun around release when no one knew what they were doing but 'serious' play is the most tedious shit imaginable.
Look up competitive laser tag on Youtube if you want a good metaphor for modern Chivalry.
