I like speedruns, but if I want to see the whole game very quickly or just the ending without any single gameplay I'd probably just watch some sped up youtube video or some shit.

My favorite speedruns are where the runners/community figure out interesting glitches for skips or interesting combinations that allow them to perform actions that the developers didn't originally think about.

I've already explained that mate. The problem isn't with it taking more time to use a backup save over other strats (lolwat, obviously a backup save is faster, hence why my point is legit in the first case), it's that a backup save fucks with the entire idea of a marathon of speedruns.
Saving over and over again doesn't waste a lot of time anyway, not if you do it at the few points he knows he might mess up. Don't go back-pedal on the facts that it was first about wasting hours and only being a few points where he could mess up either.

No, you guys don't get it. We understand it's not a competition, but the charm of the event is to see people speedrun games and show us their expertise despite fuck ups. This, in this context, means that using a marathon path instead of a risky normal speedrun is normally the recommended way.

I couldn't honestly give two shits if some guy fucked up and decided to chuck in a "fake" run with a backup save. It's not speedrunning, it's just bandaiding a failed run. What pretty much every single other fucking runner at the event decided to run risk-free paths and go for slightly-slower-yet-more-enjoyable runs, because they know that accidents can happen and in case of death they can recover. As a viewer I want to see a legit run with deaths and mistakes and I enjoy seeing 'pros' recover and the resulting time, it helps me acknowledge the fact that speedrunning is accessible to anyone and a speedrun with mistakes can still get a decent time.

Watching some dude pull out a different cartridge with a backup save just instantly makes me lose all the interest I had.
