Metal slug 6
>SNK will never come back
>Metal Slug belongs to Playmore forever and ever
I played it again today, thinking I might just be a hipster thinking just the first four metal slugs are any good.
Nope. Second boss alone shits the bed so hard.
I feel like there is no way to do it right. They could copy the style old Metal Slug and feel derivative, or completely change everything and piss people off.
I'd like a new adventure with SNK level pixel art though. But it's be like Mega Man 9 and 10, it just would not work.
The first time I played the final stage was the first time I played MS3, some dude left it on the continue screen, I became obsessed with the game, MSX was bland compared to it.
>playing with my younger cousin
>our reaction to my character being abducted
Such a great time
The shank games are already nice successors, its got silly enemies, nice animations and its very fast too, they play completely differently but they have a similar feel to them.
And theres already a bajillion metal slug games.
So I don't really want them to try at all, I think that its time to put metal slug to bed.
Literally best girl
ok so picture this
>new sprites, made in 720p in a style similar to the latest kof
>casino, castle, beach-resort, and an actual good car mission in the style of Lupin III's
>mecha slug's physical attack doesn't suck balls
>controls are back to a simple three-button layout. No weapon-switching to take into account. Maybe four buttons so we can bind the slug's self-destruct button to it rather than accidentally triggering it when A+B are pressed
>Have to take on the rebel army, martians, and a new threat: demons. (Like how Getter robo handled it) Other Paranatural enemies are in the mix as well
>good level design
Man, we really just need the original nazca back.
I used to be just like you. It seemed impossible at the time but then I kept practicing and seeing how a lot of what I thought was impossible actually gave me a lot of elbow-room to work with.
What I thought was chaotic was actually a bunch of slow moving enemies. time seemed to slow down and I was able to plan out what my strategy was from there.
I only use under 5 continues now, I just have to master the final mission now.
>Bought Metal Slug 1, X, and 3 on Steam
This weapon really does suck compared to everything else.
>Get it on the train level in Metal slug X
>"Oh, it's pretty useful in this situation with the snipers taking cover"
>Get a heavy machine gun from a POW just a bit later
>it does a better job
I was annoyed as hell becuase there are way too many shitty shump segments and not enough actual metal slug,
also the clone fights and the final boss are lame as hell, they have one move that you avoid over and over and way too much hp
X >>>>>>>>>> 3 and the final level being stupid garbage is a big part of it
I love it when they have their crazy faces on
The shmup sections were fun though (and easy if you've gotten used to dodging things in the game I found) you even upgrade your spaceship if you manage to keep it with you long enough, making the last bits easier.
And the fucking clones were crazy. Having them turn into zombies was even crazier.
I guess you've got a point with Rootmars though. coulda' been cooler, though his reveal was awesome.
this fucking madman
I don't like the movement in shumps and I really like the knife mechanic and subtle bits of enemy design in metal slug
the shump segments fuck with these things and are also just way too fucking long. you go from a super long horizontal shump segment into a short boss into an EVEN LONGER verticle shump segment all in the same level, its way too much
my problem with the zombies is that either they're super easy bullet sponges, or you aren't standing in the exact spot(s) where you can avoid the blood laser and you just eat shit
>my problem with the zombies is that either they're super easy bullet sponges, or you aren't standing in the exact spot(s) where you can avoid the blood laser and you just eat shit
Suppose so. I agree they should've at least been consistent.
Best way to stay alive would be to either take 'em out quickly, or duck behind those small mounds, you CAN still live.
I thought the zombie stuff was pretty easy to deal with
In stage 2 they only do the gushy attacks that turn you into a zombie while the zombified clones in the final stage have little gaps that are there for the sole purpose of avoiding the blood beams they use
I can't help but find Tani-Oh cute, even though it's a tank with giant railguns trying to blast you to death.
I think it's because it's "head" follows you wherever you go on the screen.
I can't specifically name any off the top of my head, but I do remember a few of the later games tossed bosses your way that weren't exactly the definition of fun or skilled attack avoidance.
I want a 2.5d metal slug that uses the camera in a way so when you take a path undergound with your submarine/drill to get secrets, you would still be able to see whats above in the upper path of the level so both paths can interconnect and make a level more complex in the enemy position or something like that, and add a vehicle that can aim at 360 horizontal grades, so you can shoot enemies that are in front of you in the 3-D plane and in the background.
MAME is kind of a bitch, I wish all emulators were as simple as S/NES emulators. Use MAMEUIFX, then you'll need a Neo Geo bios and Metal Slug rom for MAME. Put the Neo Geo and MS3 zip files in the rom directory in the MAME folder.
Open MAMEUIFX and search the games for Metal Slug 3, you should be able to open it if things work.
Press tab while you're in game to configure controls.
There's lots of documentation online if I'm not much help.
You could also buy Metal Slug, X, and 3 on Steam. They're just as "not quite right" as playing Metal Slug on MAME.
No, and I highly doubt there ever will be. Metal Slug gets everything perfect, and interest in it's style of game is so dead now that nobody would even want to attempt to try and top SNK's work on Metal Slug.
