Why isn't Halo popular anymore or as highly praised like it used to be, /v/?
How do we save Halo?
Well, technically Bungie is still an independent company and Activision only owns the right to publish Destiny for another 5 years. There's nothing stopping them from making another Halo game, r-right?
Didn't the people working on Halo dip out of Bungo? If the same workers moved from one place to another how does the company they're attached to change the quality of the work? Or am I just over simplifying it and showing my lack of understanding of how that shit works
What would a Rare Halo game even be like? It would probably be full of kiddy shit. I mean Halo 5 was full of 12-year old boy pandering shit as it is.
There's just too much competition for Halo to be the juggernaut it once was.
Halo was biggest in 1-3 era and it has less to do with Bungie and more to do with that there were fuck all decent console multiplayer shooters during those years.
Now the market is saturated and unless you're CoD you're not getting the big piece of the pie.
Halo needs to do something radically different and knock it out of the park if it wants to be huge again. I don't think 343 has it in them to do that though since they were founded to accomplish a very specific task.
Yeah, it is now. Though the online population shrunk like hell due to the fact that 343 can't program worth shit and took way too long to fix it. How Microsoft didn't give that entire studio layoffs I'll never know.
While 1-3 are the only campiagns I've completed, repeatedly. Halo 5 multi is a step in the right direction. My biggest quam is the aimimg is rubbish and I spent probably 2 days to find a decent sensitivity, I'm a pc guy now but hell even controller standards it is pretty atrocious. At face value 5, warzone, arena aren't bad. But that's all halo will be from now on, not bad but not really good. Cod and the likes have watered it down, and remember back then first person shooters were really in their prime on consoles.
Halo 5 is buttery smooth, but like in my post it's only good, more of the same with somethings here and there changed. It will never be a huge title again. First impressions do mean a lot and 343 kinda shot themselves in the foot.
>Halo 5 multi is a step in the right direction
Halo 4 multi killed my interest in Halo and the Halo 5 beta confirmed I was done with the series. The weapon sandbox felt like shit, the maps felt like shit, the movement options felt like shit. Sprint was already too much let alone all the other aerial crap.
Halo worked best as a floaty, slower paced arena shooter. 2 and 3 were amazing competitive games, playing at MLG 50 is some of the most fun I've ever had in multiplayer games, let alone the countless hours of custom games.
They thought MS was bad, Activision has them by the balls. Bungie is done for, they're selling fucking dance emotes to run the company.
Anyway OP, Halo 4 was a massive flop. Halo 5 is actually pretty good, although the forgettable campaign doesn't help, the Halo image will forever be tainted by 4.
>How do we save Halo?
Give up on future titles and instead produce new content for Master Chief Collection
>new maps and modes for Halo 1-3
>bring back piece by piece armor customization in Halo 3
>bring back custom emblems in games
>bring back sense of community by showcasing the best custom games and maps
The Halo 4 soundtrack was fucking atrocious. The Halo 5 wasn't bad, but it didn't have any of the atmosphere or game defining music that Marty brought to the franchise. I dare you to name me a game with better music than this:
>putting a woman in charge of your titanic franchise
Almost every single track on the Halo 2 OST is instantly recognizable, it's wholly fantastic.
It's pathetic honestly, Halo 2 being revived would have been one of the best things to happen to Xbox Live, instead they fucking killed the franchise.
I know! God that coulda been the top of most played for the entire xb1 cycle. Such a shame. They should of released the collection and then every three months put out the next that way they coulda worked on them more and built anticipation. What a waste.
Kill off chief. I'm serious, only killing off Master Chief will spark a large enough reaction from not only your fan base, but the video game community as a whole to make the series relevant again. And then with him dead you can take the franchise to new levels, and not be dragged down by his story.
They kinda tried to push Chief away with Locke but who gives a shit by Locke? We're 7 games into Halo's story, why should I care about Locke more than Chief? At least the Rookie and Noble Six had their stories contained in a single game, but to actually replace the main character of the series with somebody with basically no personality or history with the series wouldn't sit well. If they somehow made the Arbiter the new MC it wouldn't be that bad, at least Arby has history with the game, he's familiar. Hell, even Buck would be better.
They removed splitscreen is what happened. THEY REMOVED SPLITSCREEN. I remember back around halo 2/3 all my college buds would play splitscreen in the dorms. You could even go to bars and play tournaments with your 4 man team. It was so much fun.
Now? SHIT. FUCK. Why the hell would anyone play this? How would you even play it as a group when you have one tv and xbox?
Affirmative, still waiting on the bittersweet dissolution of the UNSC.
Halo 4 was so bad I almost called it quits for the series altogether.
But mcc was pretty good so long as the servers were working (too bad they're almost a barren wasteland now) and I've been enjoying 5 multiplayer as of late.
But the story is completely fucked and the new art direction is god awful. The characters and weapons are so ugly, though the environments are pretty nice. I'm so glad the got rid of all that shitty bloom.
The maps aren't spectacular, and the weapons are pretty poorly balanced, but war zone is really fun when you play with friends.
The only way to save Halo is to let it die so we can remember it fondly instead of grieving over it's reanimated corpse. It's a has-been game in a society driven by what's currently hip.
With that said, Halo 5 is NOT a bad game but Halo is never going to sell like it used to.
>halo 5 and it isn't highly praised because it's crap.
The multiplayer is great and the single player is passable. Co-op kind of got soiled. Mostly, confirmed for not playing the game. Dis-fucking-regarded.
>Implying Bungie isn't a shell of it's former self.
Have you even played Destiny?
Rate the Halo games, /v/.
They've been a shell since they left Microsoft. I knew Destiny was going to suck after e3 2013 b/c it looked exactly liked Reach (which I didn't like also). Bungie's last good Halo game was Halo 3 they went to shit after that. 343 aren't any better they suck just as much. Halo should've ended with Halo 3 when the series was still good & relevant.
Halo 3 is overrated is fuck. I'm not saying it's bad, it's probably the most balanced and polished Halo game but IMO it's not the perfect game everyone claims. it didn't really improve upon much of what Halo 2 did, and the campaign was pretty boring but with some cool moments sprinkled in here and there (Like when Forward Unto Dawn lands or when the Scarab drops down in The Storm). Halo 2 was fun but it was glitchy as fuck and the ending was a massive bitch slap. luckily I didn't play Halo 2 until 2007 when Halo 3 as almost released so I didn't give a fuck, but for the fans that bought it at day 1, they had to wait years to 'Finish the fight' by buying a new console and game even though it was promised you'd finish the fight in Halo 2. CE had great atmosphere of being trapped in an Alien world, and the Covenant and Forerunner tech was still mysterious so it had that going for it, but it still made you replay half the missions backwards which can be pretty tedious.
>it's probably the most balanced
Nigga, what? The BR was too muich of a "jack of all trades" weapon and utterly destroyed anything that wasn't a power weapon. The pistol, SMG and AR were completely useless, especially up against an AR regardless whether it was a long range or CQC skirmish. Halo 5, as shitty as it is, is the only Halo game with actual balance where every weapon is useful.
Isn't this pasta? I swear I've seen this before.
You want to know which two Halo games are truly overrated as fuck Halo 3: ODST & Halo: Reach. This guy can explain about why ODST is overrated.
Wewww, that's a first for me.
Hint hint, the BR was even more OP in Halo 2, and Halo 1 Magnum wasn't just a meme, the Magnum was pretty fucking OP compared to shit like the Plasma Rifle and AR which had awful kill times with no range. The most balanced weapon box is actually Halo 5, but of the original trilogy, yes, Halo 3 was the most balanced.
We bring Reach to PC.
Well, maybe that wouldn't save Halo but at least it would make me happy.
No pasta, just my raw autistic thoughts. I loved all the Halo games I just think the original trilogy gets a lot of blind praise nowdays because people are nostalgic over them now. They're all great though no matter how much I nit pick them.
How are you guys on Halo 5 holding up? I quit immediately after a week when BTB came out and haven't touched it since.
They don't get much praise anymore because everyone started to move on because of
The Reach fiasco
Bunch of other shit I'm forgetting, I miss all the crazy mods.
cupcakes aren't candy captcha...hmm
Halo would still be shit even if the current Bungie made the next game.
The original people who worked on Halo 1, 2, and 3 don't work at Bungie anymore and there's no chance that they'll come together again; their jobs aren't like high school reunions.
Cool idea, could set it in High Chairty after the Flood take over during the Halo 2 era.
if you liked the old games you basically have no reason to dislike Halo 5 multiplayer.
I moved on to other games.
I even enjoyed 4, the kicker for me was the poor launch and reception of MCC, which single-handedly killed the Xbone for me. Later the microtransactions in 5 and the just lackluster, uninspired story.
I don't trust 343, I don't trust Microsoft, and I'm not going to invest in a new console when they treat their flagship games like that.
I wouldn't mind at all, but Reach is my my first pick. I'm also talking purely Campaign and Firefight, I'm not a multiplayer person so if you like 3 for that I'm not going to argue it.
Sounds like this guy has a case of contrarianism. Most of his complaints aren't terrible at all, but his anger and hatred comes out of other people having different opinions.
Like he said, the game is a 6 or a 7 which is not half bad, but he's really mad because it got a 9 out of 10.
this isnt a /v/ problem or issue
the reaction to the new Halo was meh all over the place
Splatoon winning best shooter awards over Halo would have been considered ridiculous a year ago. And I think worldwide they have sold about the same.
I think the big issue is that both Destiny and Star Was games are stealing players from Halo.
Many people are fantasy-science fiction shooter fan, not Halo fans.
You know I didn't even make that connection, "Splatoon beat Halo 5", because I didn't even remember Halo 5 existed.
It's one thing to release a bad game, it's another thing to be completely ignored like you don't exist.
>People forget their pride when money is involved.
It's not about pride you fucking mong, it's about creative freedom, they were offered funding and support for years to come, they wanted to make Destiny instead of Halo though, microsoft said no it's not worth it, they said fuck you and left them, now they got their Destiny and it's fucking shit, the writer and composer left Bungie, one of which literally just went back to Microsoft Studios, next time they'll learn not to betray the hand the fed them for 2 generations.
I'm just sticking around to see how this shit ends in Halo 6. After the final Sprint vidoc & Locke backlash I can see Halo 6 being a Chief only game again no Osiris, while Blue Team will most likely play a far bigger role this time. I hope my prediction is true.
ODST isn't perfect, but seems like he just looked at the biggest mainstream reviews (Gamespot and IGN of all places) and assumed that everybody in the world except for him had the same opinion of ODST.
>decide to finally play Halo:Combat Evolved to see what is the fucking deal is with these series
>graphics are tight as shit for a 2001 game
>the fov is god damn terrible(literally playing with a binocular), mod it immediately jesus christ
>soundtrack is amazing
>gameplay is solid as fuck: proper physics engine with grenades creating spectacular shenanigans with shit flying everywhere, guns have specific purposes, most maps are fucking gigantic with lots of entry points and cool scenery,AI is surprisingly smart although easily exploited
>story is, well, same old space dude saves the galaxy, pacing is good with nice intersections and cool moment distributed evenly, weak mid to end scenario(hated the stupid backtracking) didn't expect fucking space cordyceps at the end though
>last mission is fucking baller ending with a bang
Fucking niggers how could they lock this series on a shitty console, mother fuckers I'm not playing a shooter with a fucking controller no matter how much they want me to, fuck you Microshaft, also lol paying for online, consolefags are fucking mental.
>he original people who worked on Halo 1, 2, and 3 don't work at Bungie anymore
I'm sure they work somewhere else where their incredibly important contribution made whatever project they were working on the next big thing that overshadowed Halo.
I don't feel like this current Cortana/Locke story arc needs to exist at all.
It's just a complete sidetrack that has little if nothing to do with the main story.
I was 110% convinced that Halo 5 would be setting the stage for the Precursor invasion of the galaxy, but instead we got some kind of awkward, poorly paced cop drama?
Granted I watched it on Youtube, I'm not paying good money for that shit, but I don't even remember anything that happens, besides that you have to fight the same boss like 8 times and then Locke and Chief have a fight that looked like two out of shape middle aged men fighting at a family BBQ, which is probably exactly what they mo-capped.
>A halo hame made by old Rare
My dick gets so hard when I think about it but then I remember it will never happen.
That post gave me a headache but you're probably right.
