Xbox 360 was my favorite console, with gears of war 2 being my most played. Hop on after football practice, with my buddies and just chain saw fools.

I cut grass when I was 10 and I used the money from that to get an xbox.

I didn't get to play PS2 exclusives until the HD remakes were released for PS3 like MGS and Ico.

Was a hardcore Nintendrone before this system which I finally bought late into its cycle in 2005. Kingdom Hearts was what lured me over and I remember the wait for Kingdom Hearts 2 being unbearable.

I only had Kingdom Hearts for a long time but I bought a lot of PlayStation magazines that came with free demo disks which let me try out games like Psychonauts, Dragon Quest VIII, and Shadow of the Colossus. Eventually I got into Metal Gear big-time and played the first three games over and over and over. That was really what got me into more adult games than what I was used to playing.

My top 5 PS2 games would probably be something like...Shadow of the Colossus, MGS2, Katamari, Silent Hill 3, and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. But there are probably tons of games I'm forgetting.

But I have buyers remorse for buying a PS2. At the time I thought my PS2 was fantastic but in retrospect it's an underpowered piece of shit. The only reason to have one was all the good exclusives on it, but now that they are all mostly ported to PS3, a PS2 is almost useless.

All of my multiplats on PS2 I have since sold and rebought on the Xbox or the PC, both are which are much better. I've compared PC, Xbox and PS2 versions of the same games by putting my screens side by side and PS2 is always gimped shit.

I had a collection of hundreds of PS2 games as a kid, and now in 2016 the only titles the PS2 is still best for are SSX, Socom 2, Haunting Ground, Forbidden Siren, Resident Evil Outbreak, Onimusha 2. That's it, the entire console library that is still exclusive to PS2. Literally every other great or even merely good PS2 title has a better version available on GC/Xbox, a superior PC port or a HD rerelease on PS3. And then again, those few PS2 titles that remain, most can be emulated on a PC better than playing natively on PS2.

They are both good libraries but I don't hate on PS1 as much as PS2 because aside from it's polygon issues with true 3D it was much better than N64 in every other way. N46 had terrible issues with textures due to low memory for ram.

My first console was a PS1, cause my cousins upgraded to a PS2. Then I got a gamecube in '04, and played Windwaker, Luigi's Mansion, Mario Sunshine and other greats. I played RE4 there first. I didn't get a PS2 until I was already 18, and completely beat the gamecube in terms of game volume. For every good gamecube game, the PS2 had 5. They didn't look as good but that didn't matter at all. In 2009 I got an xbox and that was alright, but it was worse than the gamecube in the amount of games that were great. I played KOTOR1 and Silent Hill 2, don't remember much else. Never had a 360 cause there was only 2 games I wanted to play on it, and fuck dishing out big money for that. You think the memory card thing was shit? The 360 hdd prices are highway robbery. Halo I had already played on pc.

Except for the 360 and the dreamcast (clunky and games aren't my cup of tea), I've owned all 6th and 7th generation consoles. PS2 is best, followed by gamecube cause great exclusives on par with the PS2 ones (just fewer), and the xbox is third cause it was uncorrupted and had some good exclusives. Dreamcast can suck a dick, borrowed it for a couple days off my neighbor and returned it cause I didn't like it. Makes the xbox look like the PS2.

My rarest PS2 game is Legend of Legaia 2.

Framerate and level design are also effected in the PS2's gimping. Try playing Splinter Cell on PS2 where it's unplayable garbage compared to Xbox or PC. Completely redone level design to be way more open over the PS2's linear load screen filled levels. Similar with Max Payne games.

I know your argument makes logical sense and I thought like that too. Exclusives really do make a console worthwhile and you are completely right. But then when you realize consoles themselves are a bad thing, you realize that everything that enables consoles is bad, therefore, exclusives are bad because they enable consoles.

Of course you are right in that exclusives are very very effective at making consoles worth purchasing, but that just makes them that much more bad.

If we as consumers truly want the best quality in games, it's in our best interest that consoles dies out and we all use PC. Ideally not windows either.

Gameplay innovation used to be done by 2nd party exclusives that had a smaller budget and could try out different shit. 1st party games were a little bit more restrictive and focused more on established mechanics and graphics. It was rare to see a 1st party game that branched out and did something new.

Exclusives meant the company had to innovate and differentiate from the competition, if you have just one system then stagnation becomes widespread. Besides, gameplay > graphics. Yes it's a PS2 game in the sense that COD Modern Warfare 2 is technically a PS3 title. It has retroactively lost it's exclusive status and become mulitplatform if it got an HD re-release, because PS3 is a different platform than PS2 even if the same company made it, and half the re-releases were also put on 360.

You console fags throw a little fit when PC gets ports of old PS3 titles like Valkyria Chronicles. It's the same here, a late port. Years later you lost your exclusivity. Emulating is basically a non official port. But emulation is also not perfect so I don't really count it unless it can be done with 100% accuracy.

Context matters. Consoles are judged in the time period they're relevant in. Its completely asinine to insinuate the NES has no games just because your cell phone can emulate the entire library, or because its games got included in a multitude of rereleases. Final Fantasy I being on every system and their grandma does not somehow magically invalidate FFI on NES. You are trying to do some sort of cheerleader PC warrior thing right now and its funny.

As for Splinter Cell, yeah, that was a completely different game on PS2. XBOX was much better and the definitive version of the game. But I would much rather have a PS2 any day of the week for its 3rd party Japanese support.

Never really had a PS2, but I do miss memory cards. Remember when the idea of taking your save with you was so important that entire games and peripherals were made with the expectation that you were going to do so?

I feel that the always online and little if any couch co-op was foreshadowed by the switch from memory cards to hard drives. Unless you can copy saves to flash drives now, in which case this entire post meant nothing.

The only issue that could be in favor of PS2 in terms of gameplay is controller preference issues. PS2 had lots of framerate issues in many games, I tried playing Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood on my PS2, what a fucking nightmare that was. Should not have even tried to release that blurry slideshow on PS2 honestly, scammed out of my money. If you played it on Xbox or PC the gameplay would be improved because of better framerate. In any other case where there was framerate parity, it would be the same, except the PC/Xbox would have the added bonus of better lighting, textures etc on top of it, so how are they not better?

From 2007 onwards my opinion decreased to the point I started to dislike it, especially after buying and trying out an Xbox and GC to finally play the exclusives I'd missed out on, and realizing I should have got an Xbox earlier and played all my PS2 multiplats on Xbox.
