>>323359842 I'm playing through Infamous 1 right now and the climing is fucking annoying as shit in that game, not nearly as bad in SS. In one, you never climb onto the thing you want to and you can never make slight jumps as it always locks back to the ledge you were just on. Although the thrusters helps a bit with that.
>>323359901 In the evil ending, you're already destroying everything and no one can stop you. What would it be, another protag who stops Cole? So basically inFamous 2 again, mixed with Prototype 2 story-wise?
>>323360098 >Don't forget the boring powers, That really only applies to Concrete, Neon and Video are great and Smoke is a solid intro/brawler powerset. >the bland story Still better than 2's clusterfuck of a poorly written mess (well, besides the final scenes with Zeke in both endings) >the unappealing characters Besides Delsin and Reggie being a step down from Zeke and Cole I thought the rest of the cast was way better than the standard set by 1 or 2, only Kuo really comes close. >and the lame setting. I'll admit it's a big step back from New Marais but I personally preferred it to New York (or whatever the heckler it was called)
What I really don't get is why you can't drain concrete from every road and building, and have to rely on enemies They should have made it so you have infinite concrete instead. It's endgame anyway, so it wouldn't matter making it op
>>323360631 >That really only applies to Concrete, Neon and Video are great and Smoke is a solid intro/brawler powerset. That's where we pretty much differ. The only power that I thought was decent at the very least was smoke. Neon was meh and I hated video and concrete. The one of the worst things about hoe the game did its powers is as someone else in the thread already stated: the powers all felt the same for the most part aside from traversal abilities. I couldn't ever find a reason to use anything other than smoke and sometimes neon during any situation.
>>323360631 >Still better than 2's clusterfuck of a poorly written mess How was 2's story a clusterfuck again?
>Besides Delsin and Reggie being a step down from Zeke and Cole I thought the rest of the cast was way better than the standard set by 1 or 2, only Kuo really comes close. The cast of Second Son were all extremely forgettable. None of them really ever compete with the likes of Cole and Zeke like you mentioned, but also Kessler and Alden. Hell, even Moya and the negro were decent characters. They were better than most of the characters in Second Son at least.
>I'll admit it's a big step back from New Marais but I personally preferred it to New York (or whatever the heckler it was called) Empire City? I actually liked EC more than Seattle.
>>323361452 IIRC the devs said in a reddit AMA it was so the side-stuff wasn't trivialized and because concrete is a dense solid unlike smoke/neon/digital sources, so Delsin's gotta Jack it off the dust pouches DUP guys carry to be able to absorb it.
>>323361285 No, but I'd much rather play 1 than SS ever again. SS poorly handled it's powers. You unlocked everything to fast, the pacing between getting new abilities, upgrades, and new powers all together was not handled well. 1 was all built around electricity and had much better pacing with the power-set.
Second Son being a launch window title means that it has more of its development time focused on the new engine than the actual game so it has jack shit when it comes to overall content Main game is fun, just wish it had more missions and content and would let me switch elements on the fly and maybe giving the different powers more variety than being four flavors of the same attacks
>>323361509 >How was 2's story a clusterfuck again? John was a pretty shitty villain in the end, they tried to make him into a sympathetic figure who was doing what he thought best but they really failed for me once it became apparent that he'd never accept killing off conduits instead. It felt out of character for him and like the devs just did it to force a final confrontation out so they could have a big boss fight.
Also literally everything concerning Nix and her relationship with a Cole going down the opposite karmic path to hers makes no sense, like there is straight up no justification for why they don't turn on each other or stop talking given that their methods and goals are near totally different.
Besides that it just has awkward pacing issues like the speed at which Cole grows close to either partner being awkwardly fast and the story kind of lagging on dealing with Bertrand for way too long compared to the everything else.
I mean I fucking loved the Zeke stuff but the rest was a total wash for me.
> but also Kessler and Alden. I actually think Augustine gives Kessler a run for his money as an antagonist since she's directly involved from the start and Kessler really only gets interesting once he does the Trish thing, and found Alden pretty shit.
>Hell, even Moya and the negro were decent characters. They were better than most of the characters in Second Son at least.
Gotta disagree with you there, I actually liked Fetch and Eugene and was disappointed I didn't get a bunch more of both. Can't say the same for any other Infamous side characters.
>Empire City? I actually liked EC more than Seattle.
Fair enough, I mostly prefer it because I found the concrete installations cool as fuck and liked the enemy base stuff too.
>>323361815 >he liked infamous 1 & 2's "holy shit I'm so quiet and bland you'll periodically forget I'm there and be unpleasant ly surprisedd when you notice me" soundtracks >he thinks 2 didn't have shit writing and mediocre bosses
Just completed Second Son 5 mins ago and honestly? I thought it was pretty good. Delsin was far more likable than I expected him to be, had that "oh fuck" moment with his brother, and overall the powers were fun. My one complaint is they didn't try to mix the powers or expand the early ones. When you have Video you can forget about everything else which is a shame because I really liked smoke but it was next to useless late game.
If they make another, they should do it so you don't have individual powers that you choose from, but one unified typhoon of fuck that you can mix and match with.
Honest to God half SS's problems would be solved if they just added in six karmic side-missions, three focused on Fetch and Eugene each, where Delsin got to hang with them more.
The two badly needed more screen time to gain depth and have a stronger connection with Delsin besides "meet -> fight -> offscreen chat -> HURR WE FRIEND NOW" and it would have added an hour or two of sorely needed meaningful content.
>>323364167 I'd kinda like to see a magicka style system where you hold down one of the shoulder buttons to select a general archetype of attack and then use other buttons to add elements to it to alter its properties.
You could have seperate pools of the elements to draw from individually, topping them off as needed.
>>323364645 >There's hardly "too many" powers, and Seattle "concrete fortresses and enemy outposts everywhere" City is in no way bland, it just ain't as good as New Marais
There are. The game loses focus with its powers unlike 1 or 2. The other games had a very structured layout for how powers and upgrades were achieves. In SS they just kind of throw everything at you randomly throughout the game. There's no proper structure. Plus a good majority of all the abilities between all the powers are pretty much the same. There's not much of a reason to use video or neon over smoke since they are all practically identical and smoke is what you start with.
>>323364961 I'd be up for that, sounds like you could cause some real mischief.
>>323365220 I expected to Goron roll everywhere, and they couldn't even get that right. It's clear they just didn't give a fuck about that power. Then again why should they? it's fucking concrete. 0.0 on the awesome super power scale, even paper powers looked more fun.
>>323365272 >There's not much of a reason to use video or neon over smoke since they are all practically identical and smoke is what you start with.
Did you actually play the whole game?
Smoke is next to useless unless you'rd doing an arena styled mission since its so lacking in manoeuvreability, and depending on if you're good or bad determines how or when you should be using Neon or Video.
>>323365784 Smoke is pretty much the only thing you should use when fighting and Neon for running around. There's pretty much no reason to ever touch video and there's absolutely no reason to touch concrete.
For Second Son? >Zero enemy variety >Soulless open world >Awful writing >Little power variation between moral choices >Dividing the powers means no one moveset feels complete for motion or combat but there's no way to switch between them easily >Never played through on Good but it seemed like there were fewer karma specific missions Seriously, 2 was like a totally different game playing the opposite Karmic path, SS felt like everything was just slight mutations on existing powers.
>there will never be a sandbox Superhero game where you can be a hero or a villain and random civilians can get superpowers and become randomly generated archenemies or allies and you get to create you own comic continuity as you play
bad main characters terrible secondaries cole was garbage delsin was midly decent zeke was shit and 2 didn't redeemed him i don't even remember anything from ss, reggie? forced death the 3 games are garbage
>>323359806 >The first game is the best one int he series No, it had better bossfights than the second game (which barely had any and just gave you strong grunts or new enemy types to fight every couple of missions) but it was still not better overall.
>>323366112 >Smoke is pretty much the only thing you should use when fighting Cinder bombs are shit unless you're only against trash mob troopers in the early game and its best attack is a close range shotgun blast with not nearly enough knockback to justify getting up near heavy troopers. The smoke grenades are just straight up worse than neon's as well once they're upgraded.
>Neon for running around. It's got the highest damage R1 on a good play through, can instantly evaporate or subdue trash mobs at range with ease, has better grenades than smoke, and its karmic bomb is an "I win" button in nearly every enemy base and district showdown.
>There's pretty much no reason to ever touch video But that's completely wrong, it's essentially mandatory for expert evil runs from the moment you get it and the invisibility is fantastic for good as well.
Like seriously, I think your problem is you played the game mostly with smoke instead of the fun and good stuff
>>323366232 >It is by no means better than any boss fight in 2, even if the boss fights in 2 weren't good. Dude, the bossfights of 2 were absolute shit, giant monster Bertrand was dull as fuck both times and the beast was too easy.
>>323366232 Literally every boss battle in 2 is worse than any boss battle in 1 or SS, excluding the "it's a new enemy type that shows up as a regular enemy later" scenarios (that are barely boss fights) from all three
>>323366832 Play it again right now. Outside of a few things, 2 did everything that 1 had, but better.
The missions are repetitive and it takes way too long for the game to get good. The only thing that iF1 did better than 2 is the combat, and even that falls short after you do the boss fights and the 5 or 8 missions that allow you to use your full arsenal.
>>323369127 1 had better characters, a better story, better cutscenes, better pacing, better bosses, the powers felt better. That's hardly a "Few" 2 had better grafix and a better setting but that's pretty much it.
All the characters of 1 are pretty weak, maybe excluding Kessler and John. The missions of 2 are better, the way in which you traverse the world is a lot more fluid, and you get a bigger arsenal of powers, which means that the game has more variety to it.
>>323359069 2 was the only genuinely good one. 1 was kind of boring, and SS had the same issue as Killzone Shadowfall, in that the prior entry fairly definitively concluded the story, but they "needed" something for PS4, so they shit out a pointless sequel. Second Son wasn't bad, it just had no creative reason to exist, and is very, very forgettable.
>>323371213 John was a plus for the five minutes in 2 where it seemed like he might be an interesting antagonist, before you realized he'd have no screen time since you were at the end of the game and his sympathetic nature disappeared the moment it became apparent he didn't consider sacrificing a few thousand to save billions a better option than the reverse.
God I'm still salty that twist got wasted like that.
