Dude just buy it on steam or PSN. It's not expensive, and it's worth every penny.

When you get the submarine watch out, btw. This fucker comes out of nowhere.
>>
>>323360825
Oh, god. Don't get it on PC. I'm normally not a graphics snob, but goddamn.

It looks exactly like the original version though.

The graphics on the steam version grow on you, actually. I love them.

Also, they've done some small things that some people might not notice, like make the area around Midgar and the underwater areas a bit darker. (One of the reasons Emerald Weapon is especially sneaky now.)
>>
>>323361185
Yeah, but unless you're playing on a shitty monitor it's going to look way worse.
>>
>>323361358
It's gonna look the same as it does on any modern TV.
>>
>>323360825
emerald weapon always spooked me, like you're hundreds of miles underwater down in deep sea trenches and the closest thing to life is a death machine patrolling the ocean floor
>>
>>323361185
It doesn't though. The original didn't display mouths most of the time. It's a small difference, but I prefer it that way because I think it fits the deformed style. Granted, I'm a complete nostalgiafag.
>>
>>323361480
You can change the resolution on the PC version, which is the main problem.

It doesn't, actually. They've done something to change the graphics, though I'm not sure what.

I can put the PS1 version in my PS3 and play on an HDTV, and even upscale it to full screen, and it won't look the same as the PS4/Steam version.

That said, I've grown to actually like the PS4/Steam version's graphics better. One thing I can say for certain is a lot of the colors are more vibrant.

The only thing that I'm not a big fan of is that a lot of the character models are stuck with a gaping, open mouth. Makes them look like a bunch of mouth breathers. It wasn't as apparent in the PS1 version, but with the HD graphics update, you can see it plain as day. I wish they'd patch it.
>>
>>323362473
It's actually a bug with the PC port, not a hidden detail.

Oh is it? They should patch that shit, then. It's a very minor issue for me, but it's still an issue nonetheless. Other than that, though, it's an excellent rerelease. I love my steam version.

whats wrong with 8's music?

Does the pc version support 16:9? If so get that and mod in the original music.

Steam version does. Steam version also has the original music already, and it can be downgraded to the old PC release for your modding purposes.

No. In Chocobo Races, especially in S Rank, you need to hold R1 and R2 as well so that you don't run out of stamina, and you sometimes need to sprint with circle.
>>
>>323364354
Only time I ever had a problem was when TEIOH was in the race, and even then I just pressed O when he got too close.

In S rank? Cause I've got a max stats gold chocobo in both the PS1 version and the steam version, and he runs out of stamina before the end of the race if I just hold square. If I use circle at all without holding R1 + R2, he's definitely gonna run out. And Joe will beat you every time if you can't sprint or if you run out of stamina.
>>
>>323365124
I've never had a Chocobo run out of juice just by going top normal speed, even in the long races. In all the races against him, he gets caught behind one of the shitty birds, and only catches up to me at the end when I can just burst the sprint button to beat him out.

Just tested with muh max chocobo. Can win S Rank races with just square if Joe isn't racing, however, a couple of things to note.

If you start on the left side, you need to move over to the right or you will run out of stamina just holding square before the end of the race. If you stay on the right side, though, you'll almost be out of stamina at the end of the race just holding square.

If Joe is racing, even if you start on the right side, you aren't beating him with just square and circle. There's not enough stamina left at the end to sprint when he starts catching up. He'll either pass you if you're just holding square, or pass you when you run out of stamina.
>>
>>323366578
I don't know what to tell you. I don't even need to push any directional button. I get a new bird, feed it 10 of whatever dank herb the sage sells, then race it all the way through A rank by pressing two buttons. I raced my wonderful and black birds through S so I would get a golden easier, but that was just pushing square then a little circle every once in a while. I only race the shorties because the few times I raced the long ones it was the same thing, and I don't want hear that goddamn chocobo song all throughout the long track when I'm just trying to get some goddamn materia.

>>323366578
Oh. This was on the short track, btw. If you're on the long track, there's no way you're completing it without running out of stamina if you don't use R1 + R2.

Not a big issue if you just want to do the short track and if you aren't a perfectionist/completionist. If you're a completionist, though, you need to win 10 S Rank races in a row to get the one-time reward from Esther. Not going to happen if you're just using square and circle. Joe is going to show up and ruin your day.

I guess you haven't played the original version then.

In the PC and PS4 versions, all the lighting and shadow effects that contributed to the atmospheric setting are replaced with shitty Direct3D effects, because they couldn't be assed to make any improvements from the terrible 1999 PC port.

Also, for chocobo breeding, you don't have to do that much racing.

1. Get two Good chocobos and two Great chocobos, with the Great chocobos being opposite sex of the Good chocobos.
2. Give them all a bunch of sylkis greens and race each one to victory twice.
3. Breed the Great chocobos with the Good chocobos with carob nuts to get a blue and green chocobo of opposite sexes.
4. Give the blue and green chocobos more sylkis greens, and race one of them to 4 wins and one of them to 5 wins.
5. Fight some battles so that your blue and green chocobos mature so you can breed them with a carob nut to get a black chocobo.
6. Catch a Wonderful chocobo of the opposite sex of your black chocobo.
7. Sylkis greens for your black chocobo and Wonderful chocobo. Get a total of 6 wins for each of them.
8. Breed them with a zeio nut to get a gold chocobo.
9. Give gold chocobo sylkis greens and it will now have max stats.

I don't know the exact numbers of Sylkis greens to give, so I just give 99 every time and it works. This is the simplest way to get a max stats gold chocobo, and it works every time.

How stupid is it that I have this process committed to memory?

I only use one All materia the entire game, and that gets linked to Restore for fast healing.

The rest of my All materia get stuck in double growth weapons as soon as possible. Without even grinding, by the time I get to the point where I can breed chocobos, I've sold over ten mastered All materia.

Also, I forgot to mention where to catch the chocobos.

Good chocobos - Gold Saucer area chocobo tracks. The Good chocobos appear with a bunch of Spencer enemies, or in the front row with two Flapbeats in the back.

Great chocobos - Mideel chocobo tracks. Great chocobos appear with either one or two Spiralers.

Wonderful chocobos - Snowy field chocobo tracks. Wonderful chocobos appear with either one or two Bouncings. If there are any enemies in the battle that are not a Bouncing, it's not a Wonderful chocobo.

I don't feel like messing around with my PSone emulator. Steam or PS4? I like the cheats that the PS4 has, mostly the speed up and infinite limit breaks (fucking mana blow and hammer blow, why?), but iirc you can use a cheat engine on VII on PC.
>>
>>323369983
PS4 is the exact same release on Steam, I believe. It's just a matter of preference.

That's actually a pretty tough choice. I went with steam and I love it.

On one hand, steam version can be downgraded to original PC release if you want to mod it. I haven't done this and don't plan to, and I've loved the steam release.

On the other hand, though, one of the cheats available for the PS4 release is a 3x speed cheat that you can toggle on or off with the press of a button. The only downside to the PS4 version is the music looping glitch, which isn't that big of a deal.
>>
>>323370558
Music loop glitch? It's not like that FFX remaster bug is it?

It's just that the music for an area restarts after every battle. That sort of thing.
>>
>>323371252
Yeah. It's like FFX. And like FFX, might be a while till it gets patched. I'll grab the steam version then. It's cheaper. I was leaning towards the PS4 for the speed up and theme.
