How does this game manage to have no loading times outside of moving to different zones or fast travel (even then its incredibly quick) when other open world games seem to make them for every shack and cave no matter how small?

Is it because the interiors tend to be smaller? I know you guys hate Skyrim, but you've got to admit, when you saw Blackreach for the first time, you were impressed.
>>
Because its empty as fuck.

And its not like its the only open world game that has fast loading times, the Just Cause games especially are incredibly big but have fast loading times even on consoles.

the loading times on this are horrendous. it is the longest time between deaths i have ever experienced in a game. really destroys the fun of experimenting with new tactics, as each death takes 5 minutes

I had plenty of fun and a meaningful experience. Ran into a lot of side quests and areas I didn't expect.

Because copypasta. Witcher 3 uses extremely low vram because of how many reused assets there are.

Just for reference, it doesn't go above 1.8 GBs at 4k resolution.

There's only a few models to load, pasting that everywhere doesn't strain the hardware so much.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPm3NXWcEec

TW3 has higher res textures, more polygons on it's geometry, and a much bigger world than Skyrim or FO4.

The real reason is that Bethesda is set on using a garbage engine for everything and so they don't give a shit if they're stuck in the middle ages with their instanced towns and dungeons.

Put simply, TW3 is what you get when you have an open world game made by people who actually care about the game. That's why it actually won all the awards.

I want to play the witcher 2 so bad. I have a PS3 and an xbone. One of the main devs said it's eventually going to be added as a backwards compatible title, but lord knows when that'll be. tl;dr, it's good, but not as a game

I'd still give it a solid 6/10, because I want to like this game. But that's not something easy, because the flaws are huge and the qualities hardly balance them.

Also, how the fuck did Ciri survive the shit she had to go through
>>
>>323358279

Bethesda games simulate physics on almost every object and have robust schedules for each NPC. Loading screens are kindof mandatory. Witcher and Just Cause have much simpler systems in comparison.

Yeah, just conveniently ignore the huge bunch of free updates they gave to us on TW1&2, the only sane DRM policy on the market, the great support service, etc.

At least explain in a few points how the fuck they are close to Ubisoft, especially any more than other devs.
>>
The engine is built 100% around Xbone/PS4 hardware as a bare minimum, which gives it a lot more RAM and CPU draw call cycles to work with over 360/PS3 minimum. CDPR are extremely talented at asset scaling, efficient asset streaming, and overall large scale optimisation. RED Engine 3 loads the entire base topography into the memory, and fills the details/foliage/asset quality based on various tiers. Camera proximity will load in higher quality assets (like trees, textures, etc), but detail props (like full grass thickness, physics, animation cycles, NPCs, AI, etc) won't load until the player avatar is within boundaries. So even if you detach the camera and fly across the map, it won't "fully" load area details until Geralt is there. Interior basics aren't scheduled based on proximity, but won't load until the camera is present.

Basically the engine is extremely efficient at culling data and prioritising assets and area loading to create an entirely seamless sense of exploration. It continually feeds and culls data as appropriate, and always at the very least has the entire map topography and asset/interior reference points loaded into the memory. This is also why fast travel works so well, because unlike some other games that need to load entirely new cell data, Wild Hunt simply teleports you to a portion of the map that already exists in the memory, and quickly fills it with the appropriate details. It also uses some procedural algorithms to fill areas with foliage and what not which speeds up the process.

The engine as a whole could be more optimised, but it's an extremely impressive modern hardware open world starting point. It'll be interesting to see how it handles Cyberpunk, given it'll be doing the same but with far greater emphasis on hard geometric detail and lays (ergo, a city) instead of sprawling countryside.

You have no right to be saying what the animations should or shouldn't be since you're clearly not familiar with the game world. Geralt isn't Dante.

Witchers may be superhuman but the books and past games establish that pirouettes, dodges, spins and counterattacks is what witcher swordsmanship is like. It's lore-appropriate combat, just because it wasn't what you expected doesn't mean it's bad.

I was speaking about The Witcher 3 this time. Yes, I know they did some really good stuff like GoG.

But with TW3, they did absolutely as every AAA company. Downgrade, unkept promises(like the ones where you won't be able to come back after making a choice), disastrous launch on both consoles and PC making it an unfinished game.
I use the comparison with Ubisoft because the open-worlds are similar. Yes, the quests in TW3 are more interesting than any other secondary activities on Ubisoft games. But everything not a quest is equal, if not worse. I had more fun clearing an enemy camp on Far Cry 3 than on TW3.

>>323361717
DMC-style combat isn't what I wanted tho. I simply wanted a Geralt that feels lightweight. Because he's a truck here.
Yes, I know it was worse on 2, but better doesn't always mean good.
>>
>>323359345
I don't think the game emphasized preperations in a witcher's work enough. They are not ancient evil slayers, they are professional exterminators that requires the proper tools to do their job.

Something that gets massively exaggerated on /v/. It was a shitty thing of them to do, but I can understand that because they obviously were afraid of autist rage, which, as we can see, did happen.
>unkept promises(like the ones where you won't be able to come back after making a choice)
Sounds like a nitpick, I didn't follow it pre-launch. Though I don't much like the way you can fail quests doing them in the wrong order. This is not "break the game" level of a flaw though
>disastrous launch on both consoles and PC making it an unfinished game.
Always worked fine for me, and I actually had zero bugs which is fucking impressive for an open-world this big
> I had more fun clearing an enemy camp on Far Cry 3 than on TW3.
Well I usually didn't, FC3 was pretty dull, and it had nothing else going for it other than the combat.

He's lightweight enough without making the game too easy because in actuality Geralt can move like lightning, especially on potions. It's a compromise to give you a mobile character with all the movement abilities he has that make him seem agile, but not too fast to control.

>>323362387
It definitely didn't, unfortunately. That's one of my biggest gripes with the game and it ties into the bigger problem: the loot system.

Thankfully, it being an RPG, you can play it that way if you so choose. It just doesn't force the player to play it that way.

When you do though, it's a lot of fun.

>Downgrade

ayy

In some places, it looks even better than it did in pre-launch. Overall the graphics can be hit and miss, some places look meh and some look amazing, but it's mostly of the latter variety. They also advertised the downgrade, so it's not false advertising like Namco did with DSII. The biggest thing they changed was the lighting in some areas.

>disastrous launch

You're actually saying this when last year there were SEVERAL games launched that could LITERALLY not be played because they were so broken at launch? Arkham Knight, AC Unity.

You clearly don't know what a disastrous launch is.

I don't know how it was on consoles, but if it was bad for them they had it coming for buying a CPDR game on a console. My game ran fine at launch for PC, and they put out patches quickly. And they put them on PC first.

There was still some folks that couldn't even launch the game, like the guys using AMD card iirc.
It sure wasn't like the games you quoted, but neither it was a good launch.

And I don't really mind the downgrade myself. I find the game to be absolutely magnificent at some moments. It's just for the comparison.

As opposed to 5 character models with 4 voice actors like in other open world games?

At least TW3 doesn't pretend to give it's random NPCs depth like other games do, which only serves to make the lack of diversity more obvious.

It doesn't matter if you play 2 before 3 because they threw out any semblance of continuity or save import to appeal to the console demographic.

Sure, but at least they made a small effort. If you had Raven's Armor or the Rune Sihill, for example, they give those to you, and their not great, but they're still there and better than the shit you get otherwise. They also went to greater lengths to explain the gap between the games.

In TW3 it's more like:
>Do I have my stuff from the last game, like that special sword under Loc Muinne that was said to help those understand the Wild Hunt?
>Nope.
>Why?
>Because.
And they didn't even try to explain the gap between 2 and 3 more than "lol u founded vesemir and went searching for Jennefer!"

I'll admit that I have only played about 50% of the game so far, so that might change if they reveal more at the end, but it wouldn't make sense for them to do that.
>>
>>323367102
I remember Geralt mentioning him and triss split 2 weeks after loc muinne to go find yennefer, I don't think vesemir is explained though. The time difference between the games is something like 6 months too so I can understand a change in equipment as far as clothing goes.
>>
>>323367102
How he met Vesemir is mentioned in the prologue, IIRC they met during a contract or something.

And yeah I'm still mad about not getting my Raven's Armor.
>>
>>323367856
I just wish there were a set of armor in TW3 that looked like the armor from TW1 (level 1 or level 2)

So what? They didn't explain why they found each other after the group split at Loc Muinne. Presumably Geralt was seeking out Vesemir rather than just running into him randomly. They also give no backstory for what Vesemir did after the event of TW1 when the mutagens were returned, for example.

Here's some advice. You owe it to yourself to buy this game and actually try it out at-least.
