There's not only a weight limit, but carried weight also affects movement speed and stamina regeneration. The fighter vocation gets an augment that increases the limit of very light by 20 kg. It's the most universally useful augment in the the game and i'd recommend you to play as a fighter until you unlock it.

I keep reading how going lv10 fighter, rest assassin is the way to go to build a pure str one. Everyone recommending that also recommends dagger and bow. Could it be made work with a sword instead?

Sorcerer with a Sorcerer pawn for dual casting is pretty fun. Magic Archer is fun for the versatility. Mystic Knight is the most fun of the three in my opinion. I love the trap spells, magic shield counters, etc. Unleashing a fully charged Demonspite is one of the most satisfying things in the game.

I've heard you can focus on leveling vocations rather than actual levels by killing a large volume of weak enemies. Supposedely vocation ranks are gained by number of opponents killed rather than exp. if so, you could presumably grind out all vocations with minimal affect on your overall state growth.

Do 20 levels of fighter. Then 10 mage, 10 sorcerer, then 20 warrior. After that, level based on survivability or magic power. Each class has different stat growths on level. You could just go mk at 60. Get bastion, clout, and acuity at least. Your magic stat affects the elemental damage from weapons.

There's a trick once you've beaten Grigori

You head back to the castle part of Gran Soren and head to the lil chapel

Now just jump on the wall there and let your pawns kill the infinitely spawning guards that barely give any exp but still give vocation points

It takes some time but you can just leave your game running at this point

That's Sorc not Mage. And there are casting time Augs/Items, best of which is dual casting with a Sorc pawn. Having your own Sorc pawn is best so you can train them to assist consistently, ie. Having Utilitarian inclination.

No. Every class has the same total stat growth. The points are just spread differently and might not be optimized well for certain classes.

I think the only exception to this is Mage and Sorcerer which get more stats (but less Hp/Stamina growth).

I can see it holding an enemy in place for an Arc, but I think the MonHun principle of "faster weapon swings mean more status inflictions", which greatswords and giant hammers don't really have the speed for compared to knives.

Three vocations use a sword and shield, assassin, fighter, and magick knight. Fighters are great for offense and defense, but only have two weapons available to them. Assassins are more agile, and you'll probably use them to climb large beasts. This particularly humilliating issue comes to a climax during her battle against Julien, where none of the possible outcomes will be favorable to her: you either let her lose against him or interfere yet again, wounding her pride once more.

Romancing Mercedes is the last nail on her pride's coffin, as she's captured by the dragon (with no chance to fight for herself) and used in a damsel in distress scheme. Even if you rescue her, she will stay in your house in Cassardis forever, turning her into a useless housewife and proving everyone else that this was, indeed, the only thing she was good for.
