Dragon's dogma hype thread
yeah pretty much
why are you guys so hyped?
The game is boring. Its just like an offline MMO. Its based in exploration, the map is big yeah, but its empty, simple and boring, and the enemies spawn in the same spot? cmon
Not worth it without a sale.
/v/ got me pretty hyped a while back for it. When I played it, I got bored quickly. The game felt very wonky and unpolished. It had this vibe to it like I was playing a game that was 10 years old, but with graphics that were only 5 years old (and a shit artstyle).
I really wanted to like it anon. It seemed like it should be fun ;_;
I heard that the review preview copy has the Japanese voices, will these be ripped and be usable for those with the official game on Steam?
When dubs are as good or better than Japanese voices in a western fucking setting, and you're still sticking to the Japanese voices, then youre being a retard, plain and simple.
But that is wrong. The English voices are the original voices, Jap voices weren't added until much later.
Even then, the English voices are vastly superior, and Griogri has one of the best voices ever.
You're crazy if you think the Japanese voices sound better.
>mfw my PSU just died and Dragon's Dogma is near
If you play it as melee or full battle mage with staff and shield maybe it might be fun. If you play it for the his meme skills that are gonna be "OMG SO AWESOME AT 60FPS XD" then it's like watching fucking paint dry. The only fun MK mechanic is elemental ripostes.
Mystic Knight is the better red class.
You sacrifice the charged burst damage skills that look super cool but become rather weak in addon content and trade it for solid melee and strong magic.
What's the best way to level into mystic knight? Should I start as a fighter?
Still yet to play a magic hybrid class
The combat's unparalleled levels of fun
I'm buying it for the third time :)
English VA is way better in combat games
Go play Dynasty Warriors 8 (dub) then go play empires (no dub)
The screaming in japanese of HUUUU TSSUUUUUU SHU HAAA HEH gets old real quick
>Massive Disappointment 100% guaranteed at this point.
But I've already completed the game and that was with the horrible variable framerate of the ps3
At absolute worst I'll get that experience again but I should get much better just from having a good and stable fps
Where do I get this game for cheap? I'm poor. I remember reading somewhere that you can get it for 15. It's 40 here in canada
You are a fag. Dubs can and often are better. Weebs like you could never consider any japs to be bad, even though they often are.
>It's ok the voice is retarded or sounds like a high pitched little girl for a male character, it's japanese!
I never played a magic class back when I played on console. Going to go for a magic build for PC. Is 10 mage 190 sorcerer an ideal build? Or do the hybrid classes actually use physical strength sometimes?
also before anybody says muh mods console plebs already looked into it. there is no AI in the game that supports the hybrid skills.
also modding any stats of your pawn got it shitlisted on the consoles.
Part of the fun for me was sticking to favourite player pawns, which is possible if that player is levelling at approximately your rate. Also rewarding players for actually training good pawns. It's definitely a fun dimension to the game.
There was just a fucking 500 reply thread bitching about the Witcher 3's imbalances and how they ruined gameplay, but Dragon's Dogma which is approximately 3 times worse gets a free pass,
Go fuck yourself with your made up arguments. I remember once upon a time fanboys would get called on their bullshit but now it seems like everyone doesn't even remember that word anymore.
And Dragon's Dogma doesn't get easier, it gets brain dead. End game is killing bosses in seconds and AI killing all other enemies on their own, but the game gets face roll long LONG before end game, and that is the problem.
You have various levels of weight that affect your movement speed, the total weight that decides what level you are carrying is affected by your character's height, weight and musculature, and this in turn affects your stamina and movement speed
Does the game increase in difficulty with every NG+? also I didn't get to do BBI on console and now I rather put it off until PC version is out, when would it be a good time to visit it?
It is as far as i can recall but weight is a major issue in this game. Prepare to spend a lot of time managing inventory and splitting weight between pawns. And if you make your character tiny then you won't be able to carry fuck all.
I don't give a fuck about your whining about what standards different games are held to. Balance doesn't matter in a single player game. If you're playing a powerful class, then don't fucking grind before you go to the tougher areas. I guarantee you shit like Bitterblack Isle is a good challenge so long as you haven't been fucking grinding all week before you go there.
There's not only a weight limit, but carried weight also affects movement speed and stamina regeneration. The fighter vocation gets an augment that increases the limit of very light by 20 kg. It's the most universally useful augment in the the game and i'd recommend you to play as a fighter until you unlock it.
I keep reading how going lv10 fighter, rest assassin is the way to go to build a pure str one. Everyone recommending that also recommends dagger and bow. Could it be made work with a sword instead?
I will be staring at this icon on my desktop for the next 6 days
>Does the game increase in difficulty with every NG+?
Sadly no but BBI 2.0 will push you with it's bullshit time to time. Have fun fighting eliminators, Death and 3 mage dragons at the same time.
Would swords for trash mobs, then switching to a dagger on tougher mobs work?
And if nothing else, how forgiving/unforgiving is this game in terms of fixing or rebuilding a character if it simply doesn't work? Fell for the hype a few days ago and I'm still trying to figure stuff out.
I never hear much about Striders. How much fun are they? I'm gonna be sticking with one for a while when I start because those augments seem good for anyone, plus the stats seem really balanced to let me do everything right afterwards.
Making a decent looking shota is much more difficult than I had anticipated.
If you've gone Sorc for a bunch of levels and suddenly you want to go Warrior then yeah you'll be gimped, but aside from that it's pretty forgiving. Most builds level the opposite sort of classes for a while anyway just to get augments.
>be a min/max autist
>reach gran soren
>level jumps from 9 to 11 due to hydra quest
>no pipe for my wise old wizard pawn to puff on
This will never not make me mad
When you clear bitter black island the first time it changes to much difficult one. NG+ resets the whole world but you keep your stats, lvl and gear and gain few items when you beat the game.
it's easy, level up basically every vocation to max first.
equip both the strength augs and both the magic damage augs, equip the skills frost arrow, the holy rain arrow and then whatever kind of arrow you like for the third, and for the daggers equip immolate self, thousand kisses and reset.
That's really it, nothing special.
>backspace is confirm
>exits me out of the naming tab whenever I backspace
>tfw you could be playing right now
the storage in inns has like a cap of 7000 items
but duplicates don't take up additional space
take care though, upgraded weapons take up an additional slot
also the dark arisen rings get like unique modifiers on them, so each individual precepter/Virtuoso/master/etc. ring uses up a slot
Is there a dragons dogma general? I'm so tired of great /v/ threads where there are really nice people talking..and then the shit is locked and archived and I am completely lost in the sea of shit and horrible memes and mean derogatory flame wars..
/vg/ usually has one but almost all vg's are shit where it's just autists samefagging and being really retarded and there's never any good discussion
but /ddg/ might be better i haven't been on it
I played Fighter, Warrior, Strider, Ranger, and Assasin on 360. I'm going for MA because it's something I haven't done. Just wondering if there are other specific augments I should be looking for, but I guess I know them all already.
One thing you should look out for is getting that magic ring in that one quest and giving the king a fake copy of it
As long as the real ring is in your inventory your spells will charge up faster and all of the magic bow attacks count as spells
You can gain every augment in the game and not be gimped. It doesn't require that many levels in a vocation to get all its augs and those levels still provide SOME stat growth in the opposite stats.
>wandering the darkness without a lantern
>skeletons popping out of the ground to rape you
>glowing red eyes in the pitch black of night staring you down
>being possessed by an evil spirit that drags you down to hell
>hearing the shrill screams of the damned all through the night
never played this before? any webms of magik archer? sounds neat, not many games mix archery and magic well.
Sorcerer with a Sorcerer pawn for dual casting is pretty fun. Magic Archer is fun for the versatility. Mystic Knight is the most fun of the three in my opinion. I love the trap spells, magic shield counters, etc. Unleashing a fully charged Demonspite is one of the most satisfying things in the game.
>he's never been attacked by a chimera out of fucking nowhere in the middle of the woods at night
If you're going to pirate the game, at least be honest to yourself about it. You're stealing it because you don't want to pay for it, not because of some flimsy moral justification.
I've heard you can focus on leveling vocations rather than actual levels by killing a large volume of weak enemies. Supposedely vocation ranks are gained by number of opponents killed rather than exp. if so, you could presumably grind out all vocations with minimal affect on your overall state growth.
Probably boring, but hey.
Do 20 levels of fighter. Then 10 mage, 10 sorcerer, then 20 warrior. After that, level based on survivability or magic power. Each class has different stat growths on level. You could just go mk at 60. Get bastion, clout, and acuity at least. Your magic stat affects the elemental damage from weapons.
>tfw can't even get on steam right now
Here's a question only a retard such as myself could ask: will this work with the Steam DL and will I still be able to use legit users pawns?
So how does this work? If for instance, I want to play sword&board as fighter I'm fucked because warrior class is a straight upgrade from it some way down the line?
There's a trick once you've beaten Grigori
You head back to the castle part of Gran Soren and head to the lil chapel
Now just jump on the wall there and let your pawns kill the infinitely spawning guards that barely give any exp but still give vocation points
It takes some time but you can just leave your game running at this point
Warrior is restricted to greatswords/warhammers
Warriors cannot use sword and shield/daggers/bows, etc.
Each class has its own set of weaponry and is locked, so a sorcerer cannot use a warhammer because the arisen was once a warrior
Warrior is all twohanders and Fighter is only one hander and shield, so it wouldn't be fair to call warrior an upgrade over fighter. They're two different things.
If you want to make a more advanced Sword and Board character, consider Assassin.
No, Warrior is all about two-handed weapons while sword&board is all about perfect blocks and all that jazz
Warrior is actually regarded as one of the worst classes because he can only "carry" 3 different special moves
>want to play a mage
>scared that the gameplay would consist of standing in the same place for minutes while casting giant ice cocks
There's a perk, and I think a ring, that shortens cast time.
Also, if you get a sorcerer pawn to work with you, you can double up on the same spell and shorten cast time that was.
That's Sorc not Mage. And there are casting time Augs/Items, best of which is dual casting with a Sorc pawn. Having your own Sorc pawn is best so you can train them to assist consistently, ie. Having Utilitarian inclination.
People who equip themselves with several world-ending spells are playing sorcerer wrong.
Sorcerers have miasma, a spell that poisons the shit out of enemies
They also have a spell that turns enemies to stone and another which inflicts torpor.
They're also the only class that has an ability to cure petrification which will be important on BBI
PRELOAD IS UP!
PRELOAD IS UP!
PRELOAD IS UP!
PRELOAD IS UP!
Great Ward Arrow does it
It's what makes MA so god damn good for BI
You got petri healing, those bouncers which work wrecks death and eliminators, phys and magic damage that helps you against those armors and the self buff that stacks 4 times and lets you kill Daimon with your most basic spells
>Almost shit myself
>Equip it immediately
Since it's an action game primarily, it's more organic and fluid than RPGs, but yes the roles are largely still there. There's aggro management abilities and augments for example.
Are those status spells actually useful t? Im not saying you should just equip all high level spells and call it a day, but I find using anything outside of elemental spells/buffs feels like a waste of time.
They are extremely mobile and are easy to play in close-quarter and ranged. They just aren't really as heavy on the damage as a few other classes and you can't naturally tank for shit either, so i ques they are kinda like uh... realistic ninjas.
I played most of the game as a Strider and it was pretty cool. I felt like the Point Man most of the time.
I think there's also an augment/a BBI Lv3 armor spec that does it too. It's been a while, so I can only recall getting extremely fast casting with prolonged spells through a mix of armor and augments.
>game is done
>still have to wait 6 days to play it
Girl on girl is the worst you can go. It's gay as fuck, but it's also fucking boring.
At least when it's two guys you can laugh at the hilariously over the top macho faggotry. But when it's two girls? It's just like slapping two wet fish together. How is that even fun to watch?
Depends, it's really good if you're up against a single strong enemies as it slows them down significantly and you can just wail on them
You can also use fully upgraded rusted weapons with skills that hit a lot really quickly, like skull splitter, and it's pretty much always applied
Daily reminder to not get tricked by the /v/ hype train.
Dragon's Dogma is a good name but it is not as good as /v/ makes it seem to be. Don't set yourself up for disappointment and you will only enjoy the game even more.
No. Every class has the same total stat growth. The points are just spread differently and might not be optimized well for certain classes.
I think the only exception to this is Mage and Sorcerer which get more stats (but less Hp/Stamina growth).
Not him, but is torpor useful for a Warrior?
I can see it holding an enemy in place for an Arc, but I think the MonHun principle of "faster weapon swings mean more status inflictions", which greatswords and giant hammers don't really have the speed for compared to knives.
Three vocations use a sword and shield, assassin, fighter, and magick knight. Fighters are great for offense and defense, but only have two weapons available to them. Assassins are more agile, and you'll probably use them to climb large beasts. Magick Knights are basically red mages in heavy armor, and have abilities used to tank/buff allies(they can still spit out good damage if used correctly).
can i play guts mode from the get go?
There is no such thing as "Guts mode" in Dragon's Dogma
It's a meme. You're just a fucker with a big sword, not a fucker with a big sword who wields it like it's a thin metal pipe like Guts
Don't you realize romancing Mercedes is literally the worst thing that you could do to her?
She leaves her country in hopes of finally proving herself as a capable leader and warrior, completely oblivious to the fact that she's the minimal effort option to fulfilling an ages old treaty. None of her superiors believe in her, so sending her to help with the dragon issue is simple killing two birds with one stone for them.
Then, she subsequently fails at everything she does, needing constant help from the Arisen to achieve anything. This particularly humilliating issue comes to a climax during her battle against Julien, where none of the possible outcomes will be favorable to her: you either let her lose against him or interfere yet again, wounding her pride once more.
Romancing Mercedes is the last nail on her pride's coffin, as she's captured by the dragon (with no chance to fight for herself) and used in a damsel in distress scheme. Even if you rescue her, she will stay in your house in Cassardis forever, turning her into a useless housewife and proving everyone else that this was, indeed, the only thing she was good for.
yea whatever captain no fun. i bet you prefer subs over dubs too fuckin weeb.
I bet you even masturbate to these fictional characters, you degenerate.
>Q) Does the game include the Berserk armor and weapon set?
>A) Unfortunately, the Berserk gear is not included in the game due to licensing restrictions.
Dark souls 1 I've beaten with spears and pyromancies, light armour, no shield, lots of rolling.
With DS2 I started similarly, but ended up with a fencer-mage and it was great.
I heard that Dogma isn't souls but close and have to ask: is it possible to avoid most of damage with dodges and parrying like you do in souls?
Would 'Magick archer' play close to souls' melee wizzard?
Is this what consolefriends mean by "scraps"?
It's not really close to Dark Souls at all. It's much closer to Devil May Cry.
It's theoretically possible to avoid taking most damage, you're probably going to get hit a lot though.
To anons with a lot of experience as a warrior, how do you deal with flying enemies large and small? I'd normally just let my pawns take care of the small fry, but if there isnt anything on the ground, it gets annoying waiting for enemies like wyverns to land so I can actually start to hit them.
>It's much closer to Devil May Cry.
>It's much closer to Devil May Cry.
>It's much closer to Devil May Cry.
>It's much closer to Devil May Cry.
>It's much closer to Devil May Cry.
> It's much closer to Devil May Cry.
Have you by chance played DMC
One of the move sets is Nero's straight out of DMC4
>character appearance have anything to do with stats
I remember this copypasta about the loli pawn member being too short to cross the river or some shit so she had to ask to pick her up every time. Anyone has it?
The best class to avoid damage would be Assassin, since they have access to, you know, actual dodging, plus regular shields. Even if you get hit, you can make everything trivial with Instant Reset They can also go solo since they learn a passive that ups their damage if they do.
Magic Knight is only good for instant blocking (can "parry" with magical effects) and buffs.
I'm not sure, but I believe Magick Archer also gets to dodge, though they don't get Instant Reset. Their best skill is setting themselves on fire and getting on top of big enemies while hitting them with daggers at sanic speeds. It's not very rewarding to dodge with them.
Just because some of the moves are similiar doesnt mean the combat is the same
Are you fucking retarded or something anon...the battle systems are similar in that you do different moves by timing your button presses. He's not saying its exactly the same but the basic feel pretty much is...you either have never played DD or you're acting retarded. Some classes even have moves straight from Dante and Nero
That's like saying Final Fantasy is similar to DMC because it has over the top animations.
You're fucking retard as are the others.
>b-b-but the same guy m-made the combat
And someone isn't capable of making different shit?
The animations are similar, but other games have over the top shit as well and you wouldn't call those "closer to DMC".
DMC puts emphasize on high-speed actions, tons of combos and weapon/style switching.
>hurr Assassin's Creed 2 is much closer to Doom because you get a gun
No one said it's the same, they just said that it's closer to Devil May Cry because it goes for a more over the top-style combat system rather than the Souls Series' more tactical and grounded system.
Dragon's Dogma buts emphasis on combos, high speed action and making use of both of your weapons as needed.
Dark Souls combat is very slow and deliberate. By the end of Dragon's Dogma you'll be getting launched 20ft into the air and killing 10 enemies before landing. There is nothing slow or deliberate about it.
>That's like saying Final Fantasy is similar to DMC because it has over the top animations.
You're retarded. Some of them are the SAME over the top animations. Capcom did this weird shit back around 2012 with Dragon's Dogma and Monster Hunter Frontier where animations are taken straight from DMC3 and DMC4.
There is already one.
>By the end of Dragon's Dogma you'll be getting launched 20ft into the air and killing 10 enemies before landing
This is false.
Pawn are not smart enough to actually use their launch abilities that well.
I played the game offline onmy console without hiring and pawns so I have a question.
Generally I don't want to miss out on a mage pawn in my group at least not for the early part of the game. On the other side I would rather make a fighter main pawn and not a mage pussy.
So my question is, are there decent mage pawns to hire online? With good and varying skill sets? Or do I really have to customize my own mage for some decent healing and buffs?
Sorry if this has already been asked it's hard to not be redundant with this mass of Dogma threads.
Have you tried? I did. Several times. It doesn't work. I vault the fuckers and they do nothing. Once they even got caught by a harpy, the dense mothercuker.
Also, word of advice to new players, ignore absolutely every pawn with Guardian inclination. Remove Guardian.
That was not the argument at all, anon.
Guy over there is saying that the combat is similar only on a superficial level, which is graphics and animations. The similarities end on a gameplay level, since there aren't combos or styles, the combat is not as fast paced, you can't juggle enemies, there is no style meter, etc.
You should consider the whole post instead of reading a line and calling it retarded, anon.
Ranger is the garbage one, isn't it?
I looked at some gameplay vids and Ranger looks god damn boring.
>poke poke poke
>no damage at all
>suddenly enemy dead
>sorc shot something like meteor rain
>The similarities end on a gameplay level, since there aren't combos or styles, the combat is not as fast paced, you can't juggle enemies
Except all of those are false, except for styles, and even that was only really in 4 in the way you mean it. Vocations can easily be attributed to DMC3 styles.
I would pirate only because I want to know if the game runs at 60 frames as advertised. I also have a feeling that keybindings would be stupid as well. But I wont have to since returns are a thing.
But ranger has like one thing that does damage. Granted, that thing oneshots everything once you reach a certain point, but all the other classes at least have more stuff to look at.
Magick Archer can do everything.
have you ever used tenfold flurry + blast arrows?
that shit can stunlock death permanently. if you're talking versatility, then magick archer would be a better choice of course.
Ranger is absurdly strong. They have the strongest damage dealing skill in the game, good utility (lots of CC) and can use all types of arrows to inflict lots of status effects.
r8 my first attempt. Creating a nice looking Pawn is a whole lot harder than I remember it being.
>trawling the internet for something to sate your deviant tastes

This torrent goes slower than shitting on the moon godamnit.
The Chaos Armor is literally the Berserker armor. What was removed was the Pre Eclipse armor.
I'm guessing it was the typical
>FIRST FOR [AWFUL JOKE]
>post brown waifus!
>post loli pawns!
>hire my brown loli pawn pls ;_;
>people posting their generic looking blonde haired Arisen's even though DD looked like wet shit with the screenshot function
>why aren't you playing Warrior RIGHT NOW
>omg guys how do i best minmax???
Not a 1:1 copy of course but it was inspired by it, the description literally is
>Sinister armor plagued by an unknown curse. Some say it is not worn by any owner so much as it wears them...
I'm just messing with you, anon. I do have a few sliders that I gathered on /ddg/ and other places around the internet.
Don't know what's gonna come out of it though, but feel free to take a shot: http://pastebin.com/S5ySBGK7
>that fucking character making
This is everything I wanted DkS2 to be, it's perfect.
Dragon's Dogma has combos though.
Melee classes get weak attacks, strong attacks, they can do alternate weak/strong attacks by holding the attack button or pausing mid combo. Most classes get 4-6 standard combos.
You can also chain skills into these and some classes (Strinder in particular) can chain their skills together very well.
It clearly doesn't have the depth of DMC, but the games got combos.
