THEY GOT RID OF THE PISS FILTER
HOT-SWAPPABLE WEAPON MODS
I knew it was only for Hell. It still didn't look very good and a lot of people complained, and they listened.
They definitely put out that specific screenshot to respond to pic related
i know i shouldnt be excited for a bethesda game, i feel shame
CoD has never been slow.
I mean, it is if you compare it to Quake - but it has always been a fastish arcadeish shooter.
New Order is the best FPS we've had where you are a dude with guns fighting dude with guns since F.E.A.R
You forgot to mention:
>"Permanent character upgrades that allow you to swap weapons and mantle more quickly, increase ammo and health capacity
>Swappable perk "runes", ex. one gives you a stackable temp speed boost after melee kills"
>BFG and Chainsaw aren't on the weapon wheel since they're used in specific scenarios, Chainsaw is on D-Pad down and BFG is on X. Seems like they're treating the BFG as a panic button.
tl;dr: It's Call Of Halo: Demons edition.
>New Order is the best FPS we've had where you are a dude with guns fighting dude with guns since F.E.A.R
I could forgive the faults if it was just 100% shooter levels
But when half of it was a slow shitty melodrama story they forced you to look at or retarded "stealth" I draw the line..
>CoD has never been slow.
it IS slow as snail compared to original DOOM and Quake games.
Yes, just like I said in the sentence after that, good job.
I though the story was decent... by videogame standards... which is not saying much...
I think the shooting got a lot better in The Old Blood (basically fixed bullet spongey enemies, stupidly dangerous shotgun guys, made sniper rifle good, removed the OP laser gun and redundant laser rifle), but you have to endure some admitedly retarded stealth sections to get there, and then in the late game you get stupid zombies
looks to me like they brightened the colors
...Which was basically what people were asking anyway.
I think it looks better now. Brighter colours do more justice to the quality of the model and make it more visible, especially during gameplay
>hurr durr cod cod cod baby shit game
>monsters dropping health and ammo
>perks and stat upgrades
>no real mod tools
This game could be so great, but it's forced to adopt so many token modern mechanics
>developers are console scrubs
Why am I not suprised?
There is no way I will pre-order this game unless they announce REAL mod tools, not that snapmap thing that doesn't let you change the core gameplay or use custom assets.
The new art style is all right though, besides from the cyberdemon and mancubus.
I can see how a Doom-purist would dislike these changes, but if you think solely in terms of "will these changes help the gameplay be fun and cool," I dont mind them at all. We'll have to wait and see.
I strongly advise AGAINST pre-ordering this because we just don't know how it'll turn out, but it definitely has my confidence
>monsters dropping health and ammo
It's fine as long it's balanced. As long as it isn't overkill where it's impossible to run out of ammo and health. DooM isn't about about a survival game where you have to scavenge ammunitions. Sure sometime it was a bit tense when you ran out ammo for one particular gun, but that was a rare event and most of the time you didn't really care.
Making mobs drop ammo just mean faster gameplay.Dropping health is more dubious, it will really depends on the rate and power of the health orbs.
Except the third point, it's fine. BFG is more annoying but honetly most of the time, it was already a OH SHIT PANIC- button considering how much ammo it would swallow. Many player were reserving that to some specific situations.
This is the wrong place to discuss this game, people on /v/ just shitpost. It isn't going to be like the classic doom games and that is fine, I don't want to play a game that I've played before.
Game looks interesting, I'm definitely interested. There are too many bitter kissless virgins who migrate between r9k and /v/, you cant discuss anything with these neet cancer man children being the majority on this board.
>THEY GOT RID OF THE PISS FILTER
Well yeah, the pissfilter was only in hell, to represent sulphur vapors
You guys didn't seriously expect the whole game to look like that now did you
>The demo ends in a flurry of attacks from barons of hell, spectres, and a summoner.
I wonder what they mean by "a summoner." I skimmed over that the first time I read the page, it doesn't seem like it's referring to the gore nest they mentioned on one of the other pages. Could it be the Doom 3-style Archvile?
post effect filters vary by level like many other games
will probably be one of the better shooters in years but thats not saying much also shadow warrior 2 looks better
>inb4 le not fast
The loadout system is completely retarded, especially if they're allowing people to make multiplayer maps. It just halts any creative freedom and does not suit Doom's style of deathmatch.
Strafe jumping shouldn't be in Doom, it's a quake thing. Strife Running is Doom's thing, which is and even worse offence to remove.
>they won't cater to ME
>ME ME ME
>I'll just pirate the game !
Entitled cucks, entitled cucks everywhere. Ever since TF2 became free to play you cucks have been multiplying like rabbits.
I'm gonna pre-order it right now SENPAI. Just to spite cuck NIGGERS like you.
"Few First Person shooters today play like Doom, having grown in new directions by introducing more tactical gameplay, creating open worlds, or focusing solely on multiplayer."
-2nd page, first paragraph, last sentence.
"Watching stylish runs like this brings to mind all the eye-popping combat clips I've watched from skill-oriented games like Battlefield or Dishonored over the years."
-7th page, 5th paragraph, first sentence.
>then don't call things bait
In order to achieve what? I wish I could personally be the one to completely fuck up your life, via maybe a brick to the skull or something, instead of the constant unceaseless decay that is happening to you day by day simply by being so fucking retarded.
>skill-oriented games like Battlefield or Dishonored
are these guys idiots or what? It's obviously a doom 3 inspired hellkinght
I didn't know Bethesda employed damage control marketers outside of major release times. Huh, the more you know.
But yea, tell your masters abandoning their original fanbase is only going to make this fail. Just lettin ya know now. Aside the first week boom, this is going right in the toilet if you cater to console casuals first.
>reporters are stupid
Oh shit anon.
It's amazing how much you can tell about a person, their own personal gaming experience (or lack thereof), approximate age, etc. just by a single quote. This is clearly someone who has never even played Doom, certainly not at any length--probably demoed it a few years ago for 5 minutes as "research".
>follow a porn artist on tumblr
>eventually reblogs something about Doom 4 and says "this is going to be amazing"
>I ask him, in the most polite way possible, what is it that he finds so amazing in the upcoming doom game
>later found out I'm blocked
>hellknights don't throw fireballs
>they're generic charging bull monsters
Holy shit, these devs just do not get it do they?
I think it's just dirt on the helmet. It might be a cool effect so long as it's optional.
>hell knights looking like roided xenomorphs
>hell knights there, but no barons
>knights DON'T EVEN HAVE PROJECTILE ATTACKS
Have we seen Pinkies yet? If not, I think that's what they're turning Knights into, big grey Pinky demons.
>shotgun is only effective at point blank range
what started this meme? why does every single modern fps have to do this? shotguns used to be my favorite weapons in video games until this horseshit caught on.
>turning into corners wide
>didn't rush the guy in the alcove with 1 shot + melee for a kill then use the wall to block shots from the 2nd guy and take him out
>instead just moves back and forward and fires then dies
you mean besides this giant demon skull?
In the new game informer issue they showed some concept art and the new Baron.
The new art style looks far better than doom 3 (an they improved it since E3)
>these webms where the guy plays with stick aiming
If shotguns would be realistic in games, they'd be the strongest weapon there is. The only game that could do shotguns normally would be ARMA because rifles could then shoot the 5 times the distance a shotgun can. But nowadays all games are in small corridors, realistic shotguns would be way too OP.
It saddens me too, I love shotguns.
>Have we seen Pinkies yet?
Yes, they're closer to their original designs. Spectres are also back, the same design just invisible of course.
That looks horrid.
>That shitty aiming
>That slow as molasses
It looks like COD influence is too real for me. I wanted twichy fast running and shooting. Like real FPS games in the 90's.
Doom was spooky in the early nineties, for that huge majority of first time players who were in elementary school.
Though I did not object to Doom3's decision to make demons of pure evil from literal Hell a bit spooky. The new direction seems to be a decent blend of spooky and rip and tear. I do however agree that the cyberdemo looks goofy and "eyeless monsters are scary" -has been done to death. Hell knights looked boring in Doom3, and their recycled counterparts in newDoom look equally boring.
We'll just have to hope that the new Pinkies are as spooky to adults now as they were to elementary school kids back in the day. False hope but hope still.
i'll agree the monsters look pretty (besides the cyberdemon) they are kinda taking the designs from doom3 (hell knight) and 64 (imp and pinky/spectre
there is no way i'm getting it at full price maybe when it's $10 like rage/TNO
>not posting the version with better music
>the people at id thought that this would be good
>they called it doom
>they spent years on it
>people think that neo-id has any place making an old school game
>all video monster must be ugly
When will this meme end?
I bet the demons won't even have any ass.
>not doing SR50 SSG swingshots every day.
I feel the opposite, the guns felt great to me. Especially the SSG and surprisingly enough the Plasma Rifle. SSG has a good amount of punch to go with its boom and the Plasma Rifle is just satisfying to use in general, especially with its weapon mod.
It would be crazy if they actually knew what SR50 is and added that as an intentional mechanic in the game. Not "streamlined" or "easily accessible for new players" but just as it was.
You can pick up power weapons like the Gauss Cannon, but the rest of the pickups are health, armor, Invisibility, Quad Damage, Demon Rune, and ammo. Based on the GI article the Rune is limited to certain game modes so there may be different modes that allow more weapon pickups.
w-well since they listened from the feedbacks and kinda improved the coloring there's still hope they'll change that and make the MP more arena-like, r-right?
The devs clearly have very little experience of playing doom if they really think that the new one is like the originals.
They couldn't even be bothered to go through the original game assets to create their promotional material. The sprite is a fan rip, not the original.
>can walk in mars with a helm on
so astronaut's helmet have a pee filter in their helms?
honest question , not that it matters for a FUCKING VIDEO GAME about not being realistic
D44M looks so fucking generic and boring, it's not even funny.
>that GI 'article'
>constantly talking about how fast and old school and speed focused the game is now
I never thought I'd see the day where they could actually fuck up a Doom game. It's the most fundamental FPS franchise out there.
>spawn in a level
that's all Doom needs to be.
Hmm... is there something significantly different about the fan rip sprite? I think there are plenty of things to complain about when it comes to newDoom but that's pretty weak imo.
I think I have really grown old when people think this will be a good game, anywhere near as good as actual Doom or Quake games
you may enjoy this redditors, with your pleb taste I guess it can't be helped, but know this: this game is nothing like a good FPS which you know nothing about
>"walk and shoot"
You've never played Doom, I assume?
Shit's so revolutionary TODAY, that fucking K0taku has to make articles about its amazing "inventory system", and about it using more than two colors.
You forgot cryptic 3D puzzle-like maps with secrets some people still haven't found 23 years later.
Hello, fellow Gamers.
I'm in love with the new Doom game from ID Software. It is so fast and Old School, it's as if it is a return to the originals. No other game on the market plays like it.
It is without a doubt one of the most anticipated games of 2016.
It's looks slow, but once you play it is't like a constant barrage of enemies, such as the charging Hell Knights and the rocket spamming Revenant!
The modding suite called SNAPMAP is so in depth, I could even fill the map with enemies with the press of a single button!
I guess they copied the Doom3's shotgun. Literally can't hit shit with it unless you're already tickling the enemy's nostrils with the barrel.
>gun butt melee
>enemy direction & hit-indicator pointers
Go back to your containment thread, or better yet stop posting this, you major autist. Like literally no one but you cares about this.
The first time I played a game that had a shotgun in it, ie. Doom, I thought to my 7yo self: "Hey, that's a neat idea. A gun that shoots many bullets at the same time so that you can kill many things at once" -Today most shotguns in games are meant for shooting many pellets into a single target from point blank. Old id Software games had shotguns for multi-killing.
It's more of a symbolic point. Someone with some insane pattern recognition pointed it out.
I suppose it just shows how they couldn't be arsed to sift through the original game files, despite the WAD format essentially being a zip file.
I don't know about astronauts or anything but during the part of the E3 demo where Doomguy puts his helmet on it does start off as you'd expect with the vision's color being affected by the visor but once the "Boot Sequence" completes its calibrations it clears the visor off, giving him a clear, unobstructed view of the world around him.
So that's the in-game explanation for his visor not affecting his view, anyway.
tfw killing a room of imps and zombies with a single SSG shot
Just play Unreal Tournament 4
Halo did it as a balance issue and everyone immediately jumped on that bandwagon because apparently copying Halo's features will automatically make any kind of FPS good.
It doesn't help pretty much all game devs are numales who have probably never even seen a gun up close before.
Okay maybe it's just me but I'm really picky when it comes to resizig pixel art, and my first thought about someone not using original assets but something else instead in this context was that maybe the ripped version had a resolution more suitable for 2x, 4x etc point filter resizing.
But not that I actually think about it, I doubt many people are as autistic as me when it comes to pixel art and resizing. Especially some promo art hack who probably couldn't care less if a resized sprite in promo art gets resampling artifacts from using the wrong algorithms or arbitrary multipliers.
fuck id and their console shit
>What the fuck are they even doing.
"introducing DOOM to the whole new generation, and appealing to old fans too!"
If characters move and turn like they're knee-deep in molasses it means it's sticks (gamepad)
>It feels like we're going to be introducing a whole new generation of players to what Doom is all about
>Why is it so slow
The single-player promotional videos are probably intentionally made slow-like to demonstrate the visuals, you know, with slooow deliberate analog stick panning, but that doesn't explain MP footage.
strong bait, I resepect your craft, you take shitposting seriously.
A full server of deathmatch is such fun.
The new game does even feel like it's trying to recreate the style of this.
I think the singleplayer will be solid okay Dishonored-tier casual fun.
The multiplayer looks like Halo with worse weapons, worse maps and no vehicles.
The audience screams"OOOOOO!!!!!!!" and"WOOOOAAAAH!!" for every cinematic kill.
eh I meant the Doom 4 Alpha. I'm wondering if custom servers can be set up to have higher sprinting/running speeds. Rage has console commands for that so it should be possible with D4 also, considering both share same engine.
I really liked Halo MPs back in Halo 2 days, but it's not really what Doom is about. At least tell me the shotguns and bullet-weapons are still hitscan-based?
But why pre-order? It was excusable in the past when certain, emphasis on few, games had limited prints but you know they aren't going to run out of copies of this shit in this day and age. Just don't be a nigger and save the money to buy it on launch day.
>Electronic Arts it's just publishing it ;))))))
>they have no actual power over the development of the game and the software house ;)))))))))
looks like they are kinda going for painkiller/sw2013 wave spawn arena type of thing for singleplayer (i could be wrong though)
really not the direction to take it ....
The problem is that if you were to design a futuristic combat armor for a space-age GI with superhuman abilities, what you'd end up with would be something resembling Chief's armor. Because it's a pretty realistic design. On Mars however it should have an brownish orange color, but then it wouldn't be Doomguy's green armor.
You're right, anon, they don't actually make the game, they kill it along with the developer
Because he's already getting it no matter what.
Even if people say it's shit he'll get it because it looks fun and nostalgia speaks.
I'm pre-ordering too.
If you already know you're buying it, not pre-ordering is just grandstanding for your own satisfaction, it doesn't change anything.
Brutal Doom is not Fun
Only good mod with Ironsights is Trailblazer
Shareholders. People who have no idea what they're doing get to make the biggest decisions when it comes to the marketing of the products of their publishers. For a little over a decade all of them have been under the delusion that bigger sequel numbers drive sales down, even though they fail to realize that popularity is what makes sequels and people generally just buy sequels these days anyway. They think that they need to fool people into buying what they think is original new IP when it isn't because they don't know that sequels are actually the more popular thing that sells better.
In Carmack's day, id knew what it was all about. They knew Doom3 sounds better than just Doom, even though it legitimately was a remake and not a sequel.
I have a feeling that game devs don't actually play the games they copy past a surface level.
>With secrets some people haven't found 23 years later.
I agreed with you up until that point. 100% both games already, nothing uncovered. Plus with how modable the game is, anything left to discover has already been discovered.
Don't they only occur when you depleted an enemy's health? How are they any more casual than the standard death animations the originals had? The problem with the scripted kills is that they slow the game down, not that they're "casual".
They don't look particularly cool, just put you in a vulnerable position, and usually get repetitive, and if they're not the time spent working on them could have been spent on something that actually affects the gameplay.
>Is this a bad thing?
>We have not had a proper PC Halo since Combat Evolved
And THAT was a GOOD thing.
DOOM and HALO should be as far from each other as possible, design-wise.
>implying the original Barons where not handsome
>Bethesda were good at making RPGs
>Eventually the mainstream casuals caught on and they loved it
>But they complained about how "gamey" they felt
>In response Bethesda casualized the games
>This improved their sales significantly due to (or rather despite) being simpler
>But people still complained
>So they cut even more of the RPG aspects out of the games
So now we have Bethesda. Who are (were) only really good at making RPGs. Not making any significant RPGs anymore.
And now they want to try making shooters with Fallout and Doom. But they suck at making Shooters. Other developers does shooters a lot better.
But they are Bethesda. The games will be the best selling games for years to come no matter if they aren't RPGs and no matter how sub par they are as shooters. They are Bethesda made games after all.
>The bugs makes it better
Beth were SHIT at making RPGs.
That being said, they were good at making open-world autism simulators. They still are. But they try to implement different genres into the games, which makes it "accessible to a wider audience" or whatever the fuck the term is, and that's why modern bethesda games are shit. That and the fact that they're literally lying in advertising and marketing, and they don't get ANY shit for it. It just comes off as a joke.
>Beth were SHIT at making RPGs.
No. The RPG aspects were still solid up until Oblivion. Even if they casualized the games.
>people complaining about slow multiplayer
Nigga, have you played Doom multiplayer recently?
The thing is, there's no way they'd make a game where you can run up to somebody, shoot em with a ssg and be gone in less than a second. Console players and retards wouldn't play it because it's too fast. What were you expecting? The same multiplayer experience where your only viable gun choice will be ssg and bfg?
It's all down to singleplayer/co-op now. If you can't have more than 30 enemies on screen, I'll be disappointed.
Cacodemon Cloaca >>> All else
>Updates aren't even at crawl speed now
According to Carmack the last thing he worked on before leaving id was SnapMap. Romero hasn't been id-relevant in forever.
>If you can't have more than 30 enemies on screen, I'll be disappointed.
I do wonder what the biggest swarm of enemies will be for singleplayer and how many you can jam into SnapMap.
remind me when strafejumping was ever in doom
In terms of raw movement speed, yeah it's pretty slow. But the action is fast paced due to the low ttk, overpowered killstreaks, instant spawns and awful spawning system that always puts you right next to an enemy for some goddamn reason.
You're pretty much always in the heat of battle at all times because of this stuff.
>people who see shit like this on a daily occurrence are pretending to act impressed
That or Bethesda hired a bunch of people to fill seats and cheer. Probably the same people who cheered at being able to be a woman in Fallout 4, you know the thing that's been in the series since the first fucking game.
FUCKING DUMB ASS, INCOMPETENT, WESTERN-FAGGOT DEVELOPERS!
Would it kill them to just do something that needs(give real old school doom fans some arean shooting) to be done instead of what a bunch of casuals want?!
Again this is just why japan will always dominate the gaming world and i am completely ok with it.
Ironinc how splatoon is the best shooter to be released in the last decade and is its own thing and we all know nintnedo patented the fuck out of it cause they are smart.
2016 sony domination cant come soon enough!
YEAH WE WANTED SOME OLD SCHOOL ARENA SHOOTER GOODNESS!
>mfw this horse shit ass MP
Faces 3 and 6 from left to right starting at the top left picture
>Would it kill them to just do something that needs(give real old school doom fans some arean shooting) to be done instead of what a bunch of casuals want?!
Developers and publishers are private companies which will always chase money. The bigger you get, the more money you need to keep the lights on. This means more profits, more sales, and so on.
There are companies that exist to target specific niches, such as Paradox with the Grand Strategy games they release. These do really well on the PC platform, due to cheap distribution and the established gaming counterculture that the PC market always had.
>Again this is just why japan will always dominate the gaming world and i am completely ok with it.
Japan has been seeing less influence over video gaming, less sales of Japanese games overall. Konami got out, Sega's gone, Nintendo's up shit creek without a paddle.
>Ironinc how splatoon is the best shooter to be released in the last decade and is its own thing and we all know nintnedo patented the fuck out of it cause they are smart.
While I certainly applaud the unique idea of the game, the quality of the title isn't the greatest in the last decade. Not when it shares a decade with games like Insurgency, Killing Floor, Red Orchestra, Dirty Bomb, Fear, Shadow Warrior, Wolfenstein.
>2016 sony domination cant come soon enough!
With all irony, the PC market is sustaining and gaining. The console market is heading to a bubble collapse. The niche market of gaming enthusiasts is sustainable due to the slow, organic growth of hobby industries. Milennials are finding ways to spend their money outside their homes and educations now, and the first thing people think of is video games.
And the first out of that is the best video game setups they can get their hands on. That means PC.
Likewise those who aren't interested in gaming as a hobby are moving away from unitaskers like consoles and more into mobile devices and browser games.
HOLY SHIT YOU ARE REALLY RETARDED!
>Console not simple
PC require constant maintenance and upgrades while consoles last for decades without having to be touched or worried about in the slightest.
Yes console are shitty PCs,but they are easy to operate and don't require maintenance you dumb PC faggot!
God, /v/, PC faggots like you are nothing but the biggest group of posers on 4chan.
You fags claim to be PC elitist when you are noting but a bunch of autist obsessed with nude mods and textures.
You are the definition of a man-child!
>too stupid to maintain a computer in 2016
>calls other people dumb
You sound like you're mad. You should probably go outside and get some fresh air. Maybe visit a website where people are encouraged to agree with you via website functions like post voting.
The fact is that PC gamers do buy games, I've got 149 games on my Steam profile, 6 on my GoG profile, and god knows how many old discs lying around in a box at the back of my closet before Steam became my main library.
Yes, a $1000 rig is going to be better than a $400 console. The consoles are currently made of old, out of date tech. Dumping a grand on a new PC with a vid card that runs dx11 or dx12 will blow the shit out of anything you can get on a console.
Yes, PC will always cater to niche games and to hobbyist gamers. That's the strength of it. And that's the type of "gamer" you're professing yourself to be, the sort that cares for complex games. And who plays a lot of them. Associating the word "millennial" with anything bad (like "casual") only further shows your attempt to lower the level of discussion.
Most of 4chan consists of millennials. Twenty-somethings.
You then go on to talk about the casual market as if it were a good thing for the AAA big box development companies. "Millennials are the casual market devs cater to". That idea is bunk, and you know it.
At this point, you seem desperate to prove your point, but you string together a bunch of logical fallacies and expect me to get mad. All you're doing is wasting your time.
>consoles will always dominate gaming"
Well, actually, mobile right now is still growing fast. So are browser games. And both of those are even more simple than consoles, compatible with smart TVs, and handle most of a person's daily activities and social functions.
The console is going to be killed by phones.
Meanwhile there is still need for a powerful PC that can do much more work than a phone can. And that means PCs don't lose to being a unitask device.
people keep parroting shit like this but the ssg in doom 2 spread like the top image and was completely useless 5 feet away unless fighting zombies which at that point the sg is better suited
actually if they werent autistic they could figure out the fact that implementing strafe running would make introduction of a skill based movement on console shooters possible (and could bring them a fucktons of cash in return), as opposed to quake/cs bunnyhoping which is literally unattainable on gamepad
Yeah, because losing your personal information and credit card number when Sony got hacked was so fucking awesome.
Because not being allowed to modify the thing you own, the thing you bought with your money, is totally not a violation of your rights as a consumer.
You bought that ps4. You should be able to dump the ps4 OS and run what you want. You should be able to modify the games as you see fit. You should not have to worry about Sony losing your personal information, then hide the problem for days while it scrambles to solve the problem.
And no, PCs don't require constant maintenance and upgrades. I've owned my computer for four years now, and nothing is falling apart. I'm able to play the latest and greatest games. Right now, the only thing gating me is my monitor's native resolution. At least it's a 1920x1080/60hz monitor. I'd hate to be stuck at 720p, while playing on a ridiculously high resolution television and 120hz native refresh rate. That sounds awful.
Did they fix the
>slow floaty tf2-esque movement
>weapon animations and sounds
>visual design other than "piss filter" that was only present in one part of the videos
>gif of CPMA
VQ3A, as well as Q2 are rather slow. Railgun, and no air strafe was a mistake. I would like to see a multiplayer game with ground movement as fast as Doom 1/2, in a modern engine that's good for multiplayer, unlike Doom 1/2.
Wrack felt like it didn't do enough to deviate itself from Doom. Like, it was good, except for some problems, but I felt like I might as well go play a Doom wad, which would have better visual design, music/ambiance, and better level design/gameplay. Did they even finish it? I played it when there were only like 10 levels.
Non, really. It did have that horrible conversation minigame to get NPC's to like you better.
Even Morrowind was better in the RPG department by virtue of actually having some branching paths and three different political factions to choose from.
I think the only branching path quest Obligion has was in Shivering Isles.
The skill and attribute progression. All the feats you could learn. The spell crafting. You could even affect your character's ability to traverse the land, running faster or jumping further.
That other games does this better does not mean that these things aren't great.
I remember that reparing magical items was locked at 75 smithing and it pissed me off a lot because the game penalises you for using magical items until you grinden that shit up.
Oblivion totally raped enchanted items in general. But the spell crafting was still good.
But it was shit. In earlier TES games enchanted items recovered their power with time. But in Oblivion they made them fully reliant on soul gems. But Soul gems were still a rarity.
Making enchanted items something you generally consume and throw away. It sucked. And I don't understand why they did it that way.
I mostly remember thinking that Oblivion was a huge step down in gameplay from Morrowind in general. I also remember being disappointed that the political heart of the continent didn't have any political factions to join at all nor any quests of interest. It's like they didn't any fucks.
>those shitty N64 skulls
Did Carmack just stop trying after RAGE?
I know how to maintain a computer just fine, but im talking about the average consumer you dumb bitch!
>The fact is that PC gamers do buy games
You fags pirate about 80% of the shit you play cause it doent met your impossible standards.
>, I've got 149 games on my Steam profile
Allt at a discount because your broke ass is to cheap to pay 60 bucks for good quality content(although most shit that comes out today damn sure aren't worth 60$ especially western made games).
>Most of 4chan consists of millennials
Exactly and 90% of them suck at games and only circle jerk and cry about shit.
You should see the new "censored contnet" threads that pop up now.
Truly a representation of the average 4chan fag
I admit if i cared about PC gaming id pirate most western made games and give all my money to japan cause they still give dat quality content for reasonable price unlike murrica( im looking at you battlefield star wars and evolve).
>You then go on to talk about the casual market as if it were a good thing for the AAA big box development companies.
AAA games are fucking cancer and i dont play them at all.
Last AAA game i played was halo 2 on the 360 and i havent touched another one since
It did almost everything worse yes. But it still did most of them.
Compare it to games that came out afterwards. They don't even bother anymore. Or rather they are actively avoiding it.
>expecting /v/ to actually have even a quantum of basis in their arguments
I thought that Oblivion was so bad that I find Skyrim to be great in comparison. At least when we compare vanilla games.
It doesn't help that Oblivion also has terrible voice acting in general where everyone sounds the same.
Oh god COLORS, take them away, take them away !
>I thought that Oblivion was so bad that I find Skyrim to be great in comparison.
You can't be thinking straight. Because Skyrim did pretty much every wrong that Oblivion did, but even worse than Oblivion and while messing up even more shit.
>Yeah, because losing your personal information and credit card number when Sony got hacked was so fucking awesome.
>Implying i was dumb enough to keeo my credit card info saved in the ps3/ps4
Either buy playstation cards or delete your card info right after you use it.
>You should be able to dump the ps4 OS and run what you want. You should be able to modify the games as you see fit.
These are things the average consumers doesn't care about or dont even know how to do.
That was one of the points i made in my above post.
Skyrim doesn't penalise the player in retarded ways like Oblivion does. If you pick up some weapons and armours too early in Oblivion they will be gimped and shit for the entire game.
Many dangerous animals are very colourful.
I can't say I find Oblivion to be more enjoyable at any level compared to Skyrim. Although, I never played spellcasters in Elder Scrolls, so I'm not one of one that miss the spellcrafting system.
I like to imagine there really is someone in this world who just has a room full of shitty modern-era AAA games, and he bought them all solely because he saw a /v/ thread insulting it and it flared up his autism.
Beyond the fears of basic game design. The biggest thing I fear is way to much "direction" in the game. Too much of that "here's your room, here's the gun you're using in this room". Maybe not in the exact same sense, since you can hold all the guns you want (but they could even screw with that). That there won't be much "find the ammo, find the health, you're responsible for how you play"
That's true for Skyrim too though.
If you so much as set foot in Solitude before you are level 45 or whatever it was, you lose out on the best shield in the game.
In fact every other city has a unique artefact that you utterly destroy upon setting foot in them.
And the game is just stupid either way. Around level 25 or so you won't even be able to progress with your character since almost everything is hard capped in Skyrim. Defence can no longer improve. Stealth is maxed early, and for the longest time improving it beyond that point even had the inverse effect before they finally patched it. Magic can't even get stronger, only cheaper. Ranged damage is fucked. Melee damage can only be improved further by abusing an alchemy/smithing loop that's just retarded, otherwise physical damage is capped too.
So you have the majority of the game left, and your character can't even improve anymore. And yet the majority of the game remains, but you still fuck over all the artefacts unless you level up twice as much even though doing so no longer improves your character.
The game is fucked. Not to mention it ruined such basic things like the core of the combat. In Morrowind and Oblivion you had the stamina bar. Attacking drained fatigue and the lesser fatigue you have the less damage you dealt. You had several different kinds of attacks that dealt varying degrees of damage and drained varying degrees of fatigue. It may perhaps not have been extraordinarily deep or anything but it was something.
The bar is still there in Skyrim. But it's now only drained from doing power attacks. There is almost no penalty whatsoever to spamming regular attacks and in most situation it's the favourable thing to do even. Even the enemies blocking isn't much of an issue since you'll just kill them through their blocking.
And no. Dual weapon and spell wielding does not make up for it. The combat is worse in Skyrim. And so is the rest the game.
This is a satanic game that sells focusing on prevalent gore and violence.
Why do you support a game like this in a day and age where people and specially younger people are already corrupt.
>Bethesda is actually pretty great as a publisher
They literally intentionally sabotaged New Vegas' release, just so they didn't have to pay them their bonus.
Doom should get with the times and be a roguelite. A single player campaign you can beat in a day or two and never challenge you again isn't that interesting. The only reason it will sell moderately well is because of the brand name.
shadow warrior 2 is going to have something similar probably an extra mode where it joins a bunch of sections randomly to create a level
also has co-op
So that consolefags don't struggle changing weapons and can press the Y button to swap easily like in all the FPS games these days. Then X button will be reload, and B will be to kick or some use some powerup.
i remember this
tried the alpha thing they released and it was pretty bad not at all like quake or whatever it's trying to advertise itself as it's also being made in unity and from my experience it doesnt handle fast paced action games very well
New Vegas was one point shy of granting Obsidian a bonus payment that Bethesda had promised them. Most of New Vegas' criticism from reviewers was how buggy it was.
As it turns out, Bethesda were actually in charge of QA, it was their job to assist Obsidian in ironing out the bugs, however Bethesda conveniently never did it. They "forgot" and did literally nothing. They also kept shortening New Vegas' development time, to the point where they barely had a year to make the whole game.
Also side story:
Bethesda granted Interplay the rights to make a Fallout MMO. However for an unexplained reason, there was a fine print rule in the contract that stated Interplay were not allowed to use any Fallout copyright material (Such as Super Mutants, Ghouls, ect.). Bethesda then proceeded to sue Interplay because their MMO "Wasn't Fallout-ey enough". Interplay didn't have the money to fund the game after Bethesda kept suing them, and they had to shut it down.
Well as it just so happens to turn out, part of the agreement was that if Interplay didn't follow through, then the rights to the full Fallout IP would officially be given to Bethesda for good (Until then, Bethesda only had the rights to make a limited number of Fallout games, then it would go back to ownership of Interplay)
I don't think Bethesda are saints but come on, there's like a hundred reviews of New Vegas that qualify for Metacritic. Do you really think there was a meeting at Bethesda where they derived a mathematical formula where X hours of QA equals a metacritics score of Y, where Y must be as large as possible without going over 85? It's too fucking random, and if you're assuming Bethesda are wizards of chaos theory then they should have just played the stock market to fund all their games forever and paid Obsidian their bonus. Hanlon's Razor, man; never assume malice when it's more easily explained by stupidity.
>Bethesda game is full of bugs
>Reviewers praise it
>Obsidian game is full of bugs
>Reviewers bash and criticize it
What should happen is every enemy has a certain threshold of damage, and after you break the threshold (if you didn't just blast him with a shotgun) they can be instantly meleed to death.
No animation, doomguy can just throw a big angry punch/kick/butt of a gun. This keeps the combat and movement flowing instead of making you come to a dead stop to kill one peon enemy.
Also was never a fan of the HP and Ammo colorfully flying out of dudes when you kill them. When I play DOOM, all I want to come flying out of my enemies is blood and viscera, which honestly seemed to be lacking in the current version.
I hope the devs add a few months to the release date like Eidos Montreal did to polish up Deus Ex MD. The only place I know of where people can bitch to the devs about the obvious problems is the alpha forum which only people who got in can join, and I bet its a hugbox since nobody wants to loose their admission.
Doom 4 isn't intended to be the glorious comeback of old school shooters, Shadow Warrior, Wolfenstein TNO/TOB, and Rise of the Triad already covered that. Doom 4 is Bethesda's investment in trying to establish a major shooter franchise that would hopefully overtake Halo and maybe even COD/BF, it feels a lot like the gory spiritual successor to Halo 3 and all it's lasting success before Reach and 343 bombed what little integrity the franchise had. SnapMap feels more like Forge than modding tools, the campaign is celebratory of all things aesthetically Doom but accessible to casuals, and the multiplayer is basically Halo with executions. This is all fine and good if that was the limit to the casualization and even if it was a straight up HD release of Doom 1/2 pc turbospergs would still bitch, but every month id just keeps bringing up more reasons to hate it.
Enemy highlighting, cluttered interface in sp/mp, the Borderlands damage counters in mp, mp loadouts, chainsaw and BFG being locked to separate buttons and not accessible from the wheel, and fuck me now they have upgrades. Doomguy should be at 100% murder capability the minute he puts his helmet on, Wolfenstein's upgrades were minimal and they sucked in Shadow Warrior. Ditch all that shit.
The biggest is obviously the speed, they cant alter that shit in sp because the maps are tailored for a certain level of movement speed but its easily tweakable for mp. The mocap of the multiplayer marines are already unrealistic and hilarious with their backs being completely vertical while their legs spin in place like wile e coyote, jacking up the speed to Quake standards really shouldn't be an aesthetic issue.
Huge UT2k4 fanboy here. UT4 isn't even close to being finished, genius. I'm really impressed with what they're doing so far. Just came back to it today after like 5 months and the gameplay is even faster and smoother. The weapons control better and the gibs aren't total shit now. They're really doing a good job with it, I was so surprised to see cross hair and weapon group customization in a modern game.
It's also faster than any UT game yet.
>upgrades sucked in Shadow Warrior
That's incorrect, tho.
Especially when it comes to the katana, where the fully upgraded version was really good.
Hell, weapons in general got some huge shit when maxed.
This, I'm amazed at how under the radar it is.
Yeah, I felt like I was dreaming when I was playing it last week. I couldn't believe this was a modern day game. UT4 can really save FPS games, sad thing is no one knows it exists except for the hardcore UT crowd.
> faster than any UT game yet.
99 still feels faster.
I like UT4 and it's definetely going to be a great game. Hell, there was no bad UT game yet and this one won't be an exception.
I still miss Reaper and being able to shoot 6 rockets at once and UT99 will remain my favorite arena shooter ever just for those fucking amazing sound effects and soundtrack but so far I'm pretty hyped for UT4.
Well I haven't played UT99 in a while, but I know it's faster then vanilla UT2k4 and UT3.
I just know I was playing it today and it really made me feel rusty at how fast paced it was.
I like to mod the shit out of Ut2k4, and when i practice and mess around with bots I play at near quake speed. If I switch to vanilla it's like tripping and falling on my face, but when going from my heavily modded UT2k4 to UT4 today, even though it was slower, it was a much smoother transition and made vanilla UT2k4 seem like Battlefield. So yeah UT4 is pretty fast.
Is this Halo 6? Like everything from the movement, movement speed and animations are identical.
during development, developers are blinded by their own distorted idea of accomplishment. they cannot see outside their box because they see their product as something much deeper than face value. they notice an optimization, which isn't actually a filter, that could make their game run smoother by reducing cpu load for rendering shaders for a relatively small price. you won't find this in many pc ports as it can usually handle it but it serves its purpose on consoles
EXTREMELY SIMILAR TO HALO ON CONSOLES
HAVE YET TO TRY PC
BASE MOVEMENT IS FASTER IN IIRC
BUT THE EXTRA MOVEMENT OPTIONS IN 4 MAKE THE GAME OVERALL FASTER
That video is really old, there's been tons of changes since then. I played it when it was first released to the public and it was so slow and sluggish compared to what it is now.
>Clunky piece of shit
> felt more like 3
I DONT THINK YOU PROPERLY REMEMBER THE OLD UT's
GO PLAY TOXIKK/UT3, THATS UT3
UT4 IS NOT LIKE UT3, MORE LIKE A COMBINATION OF 99/2K4
im getting real tired of your shit todd
BUT IT HAS DEMONS
ITS NOT EVEN IN BETA YET AND HAS A CONSTANT PLAYERBASE ON IT FOR THE MOST PART
YOU CAN HOP ON IT WHENEVER
probably, i got these from a
filename threadearlier today
Jesus Christ, man. Turn off your fucking caps lock.
