Man I haven't played VTMB in years. Is it really as great as I remember, guys?
I remember semi-cynically picking Malkavian as my first character, half expecting the game to fail to deliver on its premise after reading about this "muh kerayzee character luls". And just being proven wrong in the best possible way.
Do I want to buy this on Steam right after missing it being dirt cheap? Should I wait? I think I'm in the mood for a good RPG right now. Is this it?
>>323308971 It's pretty addicting, last time I played it before picking it up on sale on steam on christmas was something like 5 years ago, started my 2nd playthrough the same day I finished my first, maybe that's just me but I'm in fucking love with this game
>>323310703 the random whore could've been a gen 7 methuselas could've fucked around with their majyck powers and made him a gen 8 or: maybe he's not a gen 8 at all and the blood pool is what it is for video game purposes
>>323310970 >player character has access to dev console and save/load >he also manipulates breast size of all females with a dedicated cheat code I have a feeling we're playing as Caine who just dicks around having fun.
>>323311383 extremely unlikely, not only because caine's already in the game as the taxi driver but also because if caine wanted to fuck with vampires he'd either do it insanely subtly or not at all, i.e. start eating everything that moves
>>323310151 I guess you could say it has VTMB style role playing but that's where the similarities end. EYE starts out pretty slow but once you get past the initial learning curve and figure everything out it's fucking fantastic. Go into it knowing nothing, but spend time watching all the in-game tutorials at the start to get a grasp of the basic concepts.
Should I finish this game? I started playing it like 3 years ago, but I quit shortly after I got to the second hub. Santa Monica was just so comfy. Does it get better, or is Santa Monica really the peak?
>>323313237 but paradox is literally a great company that only makes and publishes great (old school-style) games. they literally never fail to deliver. Generally they make too much DLC, but in all their games so far you can pirate the DLC if you have the bought game
>>323315164 >, the rest of the npcs were just filler, since if you attacked them or did anything the game didn't tell you to do you got punished. yeah, cause other people saw you. if you follow them to a secluded area you can do whatever you want (but youll still lose humanity if you kill them)
>>323315207 Yeah, maybe you're right. I'm just too cynical to believe we're ever going to get a vtm sequel of the same quality as bloodlines obviously not on a technical level but you get what I mean but I'd love to be proven wrong.
>>323315869 Allright I'll bite Combat is arguably pretty bad, nobody that likes this game gives a fuck thought because gunplay isn't actually THAT bad once you get out of Santa Monica and get some decent ones The tutorial is purely optional and I don't see how teaching scrubs how to play the game is a bad thing You can feed on literally anybody that's not a vampire, the tutorial also tells you you have to keep up the masquerade which is why you're not even supposed to cause mayhem There's only 1 black vampire Protag and that's the Brujah I don't see what's cringeworthy in the dialogues, the story holds up and the humour is good Yea, you had to uninstall a mod else the game breaks in hollywood, big deal, those 400mb totally ruined you
>>323317141 Yea I meant installing, made lots of typos and mixed up words but you get the point, personally I don't understand what's not to like but to each his own I guess. Jack (the hobo vampire) is a Brujah, which get the Celerity Discipline, from the Wiki >Celerity is a powerful Discipline which allows Kindred to move at an incredible speed.
>>323317141 >Which is basically restricting ways of enjoying the game.
Games are literally based around rules. The game is called Vampire: The Masquerade, the 'Masquerade' is repeatedly mentioned by multiple characters and you think the game is limiting your fun by not letting you murder people in the street? I'm not trying to be condescending, I just don't understand exactly what your problem is here.
>>323318983 Indeed, the voice-acting rarely felt "forced" and the facial animations still hold up, miles better than some of the we got in 2015 (fallout 4 is a good example) which is incredible because the game is almost 12 years old now.
>>323319951 This is more of a script thing but I always adored that part on the boat where you're done with the cop and he goes to call his buddy over and fucks up and calls his friend the wrong name before correcting himself. Like that's such a human thing to do, it's a really nice touch.
>>323321181 Yeah. God it would be a dream come true if a full on sequel would be made with something like the frostbite 3 or redengine 3, but probably neither companies are willing to give out the engine.
>single player only >Setting is a modern city, but with a lot of residential areas and abandoned buildings. >You play as a Mage, in any of the five orders >A lot of parkour would be involved, dying-light like >City would be fully loaded at all times, no loading screens unless going inside or to a different area >Can control magic and use in combat or for puzzles against other mages or sleepers, but can cause paradox >Fight against the seers, the technocracy, or other hellish supernatural threats. >can recruit other mages to help you or be your friends if you become powerful >Explore underground tunnels, abandoned buildings, and the shadow realm
>Each of the fiver orders would have different gameplay styles or quests >Adamantine arrow would be focused on training and combat against foreign threats. >Free Council would be focused on freeing mages from Atlantean lore and legend >Guardians of the Veil would be stalking victims and assassinating mages that your leaders order to, or using subterfuge to obtain information. >Mysterium would focus on obtaining magical artifications and information by exploring abandoned buildings and stealing them from other people. Could also fight off never-before heard supernatural threats that no other order knows about. >Silver Ladder would be focused on ruling the other mages, and on a quest to rebuild the silver ladder. >can make alliances or rivalries against other orders, but must be careful
>>323326753 Yeah, I could see that. CDPR isn't afraid to put "controversial" material such as nudity, sex and brutal violence to their games aka they don't pander to SJW's, not yet anyway. The waifu baiting was in TW3 because it's part of the Witcher universe.
That's not the issue. This one game was the true test. Remember how almost every Obsidian game that was bugged or unfinished, was blamed on the publishers? We always accepted it as a given that if Obsidian didn't continually get fucked over by the moneymen then they'd be one of the best devs of all time. Well, Pillars was that idea put to the test. And they failed to deliver.
>single player only Obviously. Only retards fell for that mmo crap. >Setting is a modern city, but with a lot of residential areas and abandoned buildings. Yes, WoD is always best worked in modern days. >You play as a Mage, in any of the five orders I would love for a Mage game but it would be hard as fuck to do. Twice as hard to make it fun. >A lot of parkour would be involved, dying-light like Not sure if this would be needed in a Mage game. >City would be fully loaded at all times, no loading screens unless going inside or to a different area Yes, like VtM:B it needs to have separeted areas that determine if you can "break the masquerade" or no. >Can control magic and use in combat or for puzzles against other mages or sleepers, but can cause paradox I don't see this working in a video game, sorry. Too complicated. >Fight against the seers, the technocracy, or other hellish supernatural threats. Hell yes. >can recruit other mages to help you or be your friends if you become powerful You mean companions that follow you around? Not a good idea, imo. Unless the ai is advanced enough for it to not become annoying. >Explore underground tunnels, abandoned buildings, and the shadow realm Agreed. Also looking for old magical items in museums, crypts, etc.
Would never happen, but I get hyped just thinking about it.
>>323327478 >I'm saying Avellone was the only guy at Obsidian who could write. But that's wrong. He specializes in deconstruction and that's about the extent of his talent. Most of the good shit in New Vegas came from Sawyer and Gonzalez. Meanwhile Avellone was shitting out Lonesome Road.
>>323306250 >>323309349 >>323309736 Imagine being her lover, she's probably like an animal in bed, lots of sweat and biting, you would feel completley drained after fucking her. She would ride you like Helen of Troy with her ass on fire(sorry, been watching Rome).
>>323329601 Hnngh. I like how you need to play the game to understand her hotness. From pictures only she may seem like a generic schoolgirl fap bait, but god damn the smiles, the voice and the way she acts.
>>323329934 Indeed, from the pictures you would think she's a Harley Quinn clone but her personality is completley different.
>>323330285 Yes, they can sweat but it's pink because it's blood. And yes, they feel pleasure during sex but it's nothing compared to feeding, doesn't mean they don't enjoy it. She would also be welcome to feed on me after we're done, that's the least I could do.
>>323331498 I'm sorry but it's obvious you don't have any idea what you are talking about. Vampires can spend a blood point to make their bodies "come alive", they become warm like humans and their sexual organs work aswell, and yes, they can feel sexual pleasure, not just from feeding.
>>323335982 Some side quest are unavailable for the nosferatu. The game does change pretty drastically because everybody is disgusted by your appearance the guard at Lacroix tower doesn't let you in,so you have to use the sewer.
>>323339425 One of the videos I watched about this game before playing it was the pet turtle one. I was really looking forward to reaching Chinatown so I could see everything that can happen in this scene. It was painfully disappointing how little actually happens here.
>>323310565 >Nobody killed Troika, they did that themself I sometimes forget how young board users can get. Never forget: Activision and EA are to the gaming industry what Stalin was to the Russian people - maniacal murderous paranoid megalomaniac who spread seethrough propaganda while purging his recently-acquired ranks of people he blamed for his own mistakes.
>Warrens for the first time >put the game down for a while about halfway through >come back a month later >save files overwritten by the game for no apparent reason, can't be recovered At least I don't have to finish the Warrens.
>>323341705 I don't see what Valve has to do with anything there >game is unfinished due to Activision deadline >source engine gets improved >we couldn't implement those improvements! who the fuck cares when your game isn't content complete in the first place?
>>323342131 Valve didn't have much to do with it. It was all Activision's fault, who did a blind code-freeze in an embarrassingly incomplete state they didn't care about, with game-breaking bugs they never bothered checking because they never did QA for, despite loud and clear messages from the development team that this will be a disastrous launch.
Never give any money to anyone who acts like this, ever again. Buying this game is an awful thing to do.
>>323341705 "After three years in development, the game was progressing slowly and it was unknown when it would be finished. Activision set a series of deadlines for the project's development to ensure Troika would have sufficient time to effectively test the game, though these milestones were repeatedly extended, and Bloodlines eventually ran over budget. In 2003, Activision intervened, ordering that the game be ready for release in the next few months, and even advancing more money to Troika to complete its work on The Temple of Elemental Evil for Atari, freeing the Troika team to work on Bloodlines exclusively."
It was Troika's fault too, they were behind schedule, over budget, worked on multiple projects at the same time and were over ambitious
>>323305775 Not sure if you're even in this thread still, but LaCroix never gets a happy ending, and he arguably doesn't deserve one. For this playthrough if you want to be loyal to the camarilla, be loyal to them but not LaCroix.
I wonder if male PC ever tapped that before getting embraced. I like to think he did.
Come to think of it, this has to be a significant problem for Kindred. Unless you relocate to a new city, how do you keep yourself from ever running into someone who knew you while you were alive? And even if you do relocate, how do you set up your disappearance in such a way that everyone will just accept it, assuming you're not some master spy who's ready to fake his own death as required?
>>323326176 >>323326062 >>323326046 Avellone's independent now, and he expressed interest in working on a VtM game, same with b mitsoda. If Obsidian asked them they'd probably jump right on board senpai
>>323326269 A mage game would take enormous amounts of work to do right. The way magic works in WoD is just way too open ended also >not playing as Technocracy and crushing the skulls/ectoplasm of Reality Deviants
>>323343646 I think this would only be a problem if you were a shovelhead or someone else that was just embraced without your sire getting permission. If you are embraced because your sire got permission the Camarilla would probably take care of it by setting something up like a car accident.
>>323344798 yeah, just look up vtmb unofficial patch. I believe 9.3 or 9.4 is the most recent. I recommend using the basic version of it. Also, depending on what platform you're running it on you may need to do a small workaround to get it going
>>323344683 In some ways it would be pretty awesome to be a Nosferatu, they have cool powers and they seem to look after their own, they share a more solid connection with eachother than other clans, it wouldn't feel like you were embraced and then just tossed out to fend for yourself without support. On the other hand, you are a disfigured monster.
>>323344742 I haven't heard much good about mods but there's unofficial patch plus, clan quest, camarilla edition, final nights, and antitribu off the top of my head. Unofficial plus is probably the one that's closest to vanilla, just has some rebalances, restored content (of varying quality) and a lot of restored soundtracks (but many are questionably placed unfortunately)
I wish there was a radio mod for the game with all the music in it
>>323343896 I played this for the first time less than two years ago and it's become one of my favorite games. 90% of the time I see someone accuse any game of being "dated" or only liked because of nostalgia are people just trying to avoid admitting they just don't like to play old games. I always assumed that mentality is closely related to people who refuse to watch old black & white movies.
>>323345673 yeah, normally (in the Camarilla) a kindred seeks the permission from the prince and they grant it when they think the time is right. it's implicated that your sire was turning you to act as their agent against LaCroix
>>323345884 I tried, it happened last night and she said 'I'm going to bed, maybe I'll call you tomorrow night after work.' Last time I talked to her when she was like this she flipped right the fuck out.
>>323345724 >I pissed off my girlfriend by saying 95 dollars for a thing of foundation is ridiculous.
Why do women flip out over tiny shit? Go to Google right now, type the words "how to have an" and see what Google fills in for you. I know a guy whose girl stopped talking to him because she did that on his computer.
>>323347595 It would be so ridiculously hard to develop. Magic is basically 'bullshit a reason, then ask the ST if it works' You can't really put that in a videogame form, unless it's some telltale shit where you're giving a set of options to choose from
>>323347729 >'bullshit a reason, then ask the ST if it works'
but don't you still have to roll and stuff? I remember seeing a story posted in one of these threads where some dude insta-killed a super advanced mage killer golem thing that was nearly immune to magic by shooting it with a magic bullet and getting a super lucky diceroll.
