undertale was something I was hyped for, especially after the demo. I liked how creative it was on the technical side of things. Like how flowey read your save after you restarted.
I also really liked the bullet hell jrpg combat thing.
Personally I found the game to be quite funny but it's a style of humor not everyone likes.
I also fell for the FEELS shit at the end because I'm a lonely faggot or something. Generally I thought it was good for the price, anymore and I couldn't be able to recommend it.

That being said I can see how people done like it.
It doesn't come close to earthbound on an aesthetic level, or a gameplay one. Which is kinda bad when that was the main inspiration. The characters could get annoying fast for some people, especially Alphys, and like I said the humor isn't for everyone.
The FEELS or whatever the fuck that hooked alot of people won't really work on alot of people because they aren't Gaylord's like me that get emotional over sprites and text.
The fan base is also getting 5naF tier of cancer. It's fucking abhorrent. Which I assume is where the whole "Tumblrtale" or whatever comes from. That or some people cant actually handle one lesbian couple in a game handled in a not lewd way.

I don't really think considering three games that are universally praised as fantastic his favourites is grounds for outstanding taste or critical insight.

What gets me most about Yahtzee is that in a lot of his reviews about shooters like Painkiller or Bullet Storm he goes on about how he's big on gameplay and action but in most of his reviews especially his most recent ones he spends almost all his time talking about story and rarely if ever discusses gameplay to a signifcant degree of depth. The way he praises Batman Arkham series' combat but seems dismissive of a lot of hack and slash games like DMC4 and didn't have anything significant to say about the problems it's reboot had in contrast to it -to me at least- gives me the impression he's a poor judge of gameplay.

I think it's a good game that was definitely competently made in all areas, so if people didn't like it on personal preference I don't mind, and if people want to say they hate the fanbase, and by extension the game because of it, that's fine as well, but the amount of contrarians who clearly want to hate the game because other people liked it too much just bug me.
