I finished my first playthrough of KOTOR 1 and 2 (I hated 2) and now I'm in an all consuming void where no game I play is as enjoyable as KOTOR.
I need something to play. Something good. Something great. Please /v/, help me.
Maybe it was just the novelty? But I guess in 2 I found that all the jedi characters were Lawful Stupid whiny bitches and felt like I went Dark Side not because I wanted to, but just to spite all the NPCs I hated.
Memes are fun.
Yeah I've played DA:I and found it to be a little too camp. Gameplay was nice enough but I found it a little too grindy.
Favourite RPG other than KOTOR is probably Mass Effect games and I like all the Souls games too.
Play Deus Ex. DO THE FUCKING TUTORIAL FIRST. Its there for a reason.
At first it will seem like a weird janky FPS/RPG hybrid then as soon as you hit Hong Kong it'll suck you in for an entire week as you uncover conspiracies and eventually make your JC into a superhuman tank.
10/10 experience, the kind of shit I wish I got to play on my Xbox 360.
Still recommend even if I hated Human Revolution? Reckon that's worth going back and slugging through? I found the stealth to be not precise enough for me but I'll admit I didn't give it much of a chance.
Thanks for the recommendation anon! It's in the cart.
Since we have similar tastes maybe you should try Red Dead Redemption if you haven't already.
Since I have no idea what you have or have not played, I will also throw in the recommendation that you go and play Soul Blazer for the SNES. That is my random suggestion. The game gave me fuzzy feelings when I played it in 2009.
It's not really combat it's a weird kind of fluid turnbased combat which is actually a screened DND combat system (attack rolls and saving throws) still fun tho.
Abso-fucking-lutely. If you remotely like Star Wars and remotely like RPGs this game is worth playing if for nothing else just for the twist which absolutely made me shit myself.
>Abso-fucking-lutely. If you remotely like Star Wars and remotely like RPGs this game is worth playing if for nothing else just for the twist which absolutely made me shit myself.
I said SWTOR, not KOTOR.
The Old Republic. The MMO.
I love Red Dead, riding into Mexico is still one of my all time favourite gaming memories. Will investigate Soul Blazer.
As for what I've played, pretty much every AAA game since 2008 and most of the popular indie titles (think Limbo/Braid/Bastion).
Always wondered if I would enjoy Stalker, will investigate.
I know. I might check it out but probably won't. Thanks for the recommendation tho.
I was relatively neutral most of the game, then when the twist hit me I really had a dilemma because I almost went dark side, but I ended the game light side and felt good about the choice.
Twist blew my socks off I absolutely loved it and did not call it at all like some of my friends say they did.
It's alright. The story is indeed okay (not amazing but a lot better than most MMOs), and some of the specific class story lines are better than others. However, the side quests are shit and still grindy (kill 12 enemies, collect 8 loot). The worst part though, is that yo Have to grind to get enough levels before the next story quest as you level. The gameplay is literally WoW, I mean that completely. So give it a shot if you don't mind grindy MMO type gameplay, but it's still no where near worth it for a single player experience.
I wasn't kidding when I said dragon age origin is basically kotor except not in a Star Wars universe though. Same quest structures, story direction, similar game play/companions. If you liked kotor, you are literally missing out if you don't play dragon age origin. It's by the same creative team before EA took over. As I said, it is nothing like DA:I but suit yourself.
>The worst part though, is that yo Have to grind to get enough levels before the next story quest as you level.
I heard they changed it so that you could level up by doing just the main quest, which is why I'm even considering it (coupled with the fact that it's apparently free)
>It's alright. The story is indeed okay (not amazing but a lot better than most MMOs), and some of the specific class story lines are better than others.
Aight, cheers. I'm okay with mediocre stories as long as they have some redeeming features. I'll just need to know which ones to absolutely stay away from.
Absolutely broke my heart. I was hopeful at the start when you can correct Atton on some of the story elements about KOTOR, but then by the end I was just like, wtf did I even achieve in KOTOR 1 if all this shit just fucking 'happened' five years later?
If I hadn't loved playing KOTOR 1 so much it damn well might have ruined both games for me.
assuming you haven't played it; Bloodlines: Masquerade is an exceedingly good WRPG with an immense amount of replay value, just make sure you get fan patches.
You could also try Witcher, or Stalker as the other anon said.
Or if you want another star wars game, play Battlefront 1 and 2. Very fun games. Too bad online is dead, but the single player is still enjoyable.
>Obsidian completely ignoring every single thing you did in KotOR 1 to streamline the narrative of 2
But they didn't. When you meet Atom in Paragus you can decide if Raven was a man or a woman or he/she saved the Republic or not.
I didn't k is about the exp thing if that's true. It could be worth it then, because the biggest complaint against playing it as a single player game was that.
The worst storyline that people usually point to is the Jedi counselor one. It's super generic and not very exciting. The jedi knight one is equally generic but a bit more exciting, some liked it though.
My personal favorite was smith warrior but played with light side choices. So you are sort of this Grey sith who is almost redeeming yourself from the inside. It's very refreshing to play a good force user who is not just "stupid good" if you know what I mean. The bounty hunter and imperial agent also have good feedbacks. I haven't heard much about other ones, the reactions seem mixed, so you might have to try yourself.
Will investigate Bloodlines, have played the rest.
Yeah I'm actually really appreciative that I didn't have that spoiled for me even though I played the game 12 years late.
Aaaaaand that's it. They paid more respect to T3-M4 and he went fucking chaotic evil anyway. It didn't do the first game justice and anyone who tries to defend it is either blinded by nostalgia or needs to replay.
Too little is different between the two choices that it feels like Revan did not matter. The light side ending of KOTOR 1 was super optimistic to the point of cheese and the dark side ending implied the galaxy was going to be conquered within the month. Both endings are undone by Revan flying off to unknown space to confront an unknown threat.
I love KOTOR 2 but it is disappointing if you come into with the hopes of it continuing the story you experienced KOTOR 1. Obviously they had to somewhat unify the two endings of KOTOR 1 so they wouldn't have to make two different versions of KOTOR 2, but it really did feel like the original story was been undermined.
lol obsidrone pls. The writers completely destroyed any semblance of consistency in the story and totally misunderstood the world of Star Wars by adding 2deep4u philosophy 101 bullshit.
this , KOTOR1 was written with respect to established SW themes, KOTOR2 abandoned all of the great stuff in KOTOR1 so they could make some tryhard grimdark muh-grey morality story.
Yeah every time I hear the word "echo" or "wound" I fucking shudder thanks to that terrible metaphysical shitfight of a plot.
They are my new trigger words.
You're right Obsidian had far superior, clear, imaginative storytelling.
>implying it's not all just total bullshit nonsense masquerading as a deep and insightful plot
If you like Bioware's style, try Jade Empire. I consider it their magnum opus.
KotOR combat is D20 turn-based put into real-time (basically every few seconds is another turn, and you queue up what actions you'll take). While I generally think KotOR is overrated, I thought that aspect of turning a D20 DnD based system into an "action RPG" was really well done.
>character who is literally a soundboard to reinforce themes and plot points in case the player is too retarded to comprehend context
Not to mention you can't the bitch just fuck off. Even when you don't take her in your party she just waltzes into cutscenes to say the same shit every time.
Fuck it makes me mad.
This child has barely played anything, I don't even know where to start with my recommendations except to suggest to fucking play deus ex,System Shock 2,Planescape:Torment and stalker ASAP.
It is great. It's one of the best star wars games that celebrates the star wars universe. It pays respect to most of the universe and vaguely fun to play once or twice.
2 is also great but for different reasons. It's largely a deconstruction of the same universe and other things like making gameplay improvements. I have no idea why these this retarded back and forth between 1 and 2's fans.
a bunch of shit meme games that everyone on /v/ pretends to like because it makes their tastes "patrician"
get a life. KOTOR1 is better then pretty much all of those, PST is just more edgy grimdark shit like KOTOR2, Stalker isn't even a RPG, System Shocks okay but not a RPG, and DX has aged like milk. None of these games will give the OP the experience he had from KOTOR1
try Jedi Academy series friend.
I've played like 300 games to completion in my life judging by my Steam library, achievements, and trophies. I wouldn't say I've "barely played anything."
Useful and contributive post, anon.
I got them in the Steam sale but haven't downloaded yet, wasn't sure if I'd like them but definitely going to give those and Republic Commando a go, if nothing else.
>plays better then most games
>AI has 15 FOV and their combat protocol is to just run up to you
top laff. take those rose tinted goggles off. Or keep em on, doesn't matter to me you deluded nerd.
>try Jedi Academy series, friend
>Jedi Academy series
Yeah, no, fuck you and fuck your shitty opinions ya fucking retard
I've never tried kotor but I hear lots of good things. I also hear a fair amount of spoilers. Do they hold up today? I'm looking for something without much of a barrier to entry, I'm pretty retarded these days.
Jesusbabyfuck I beat kotor 1&2 more than 10 years ago
IMHO it has aged well and gameplay is fun.
Granted I play DND too so I found the system friendly but I could understand how some may find it a little weird if you haven't played any DND.
It's worth it for its price.
Never understood how someone could admit to being a retard and continue to pander to themselves instead of trying to gain taste and get better so they can not be retarded and also have more fun with better games.
I like DnD systems so that's okay. Does it have Baldur's Gate/Neverwinter style "semi-turn based" fights? That ruined those games for me. Made it feel like I was playing an incredibly laggy MMO.
I like plenty of games with high barriers to entry. I'm just lethargic lately because of a lot of exhausting shit going on and don't want to stress myself out more doing a bunch of reading for a game I'm already taking a gamble on. I didn't see the point in blogging to /v/ about my life so I said that to keep it short. Fuck you.
Man I hate that. I guess I'll see about giving it a shot but I really hate that combat system.
It sucks. I've gotten a taste for vidya with deeper mechanics and what not so I don't really enjoy anything that's too shallow, but it's so hard to learn anything new right now. What's worse is I actually feel guilty for just replaying other games for so long. I feel like I should be playing something new. It's hard being so autistic.
Well here's hoping. Thanks.
I at least quit LoL for DotA a few years back. MMOs are generally pretty easy to get into. I think it's because there's a lot to do and that sense of investment is there. A lot of single player games are hard for me to get into now because I know it will end and I probably won't play it again.
Oh fuck I almost made Destiny my new LoL but thankfully I power levelled ahead of all my IRL friends and ended up dropping the game cause I had no one to play with.
Dodged a bullet.
I'll play a bit with you and show you the ropes if you like, but I know how having a lot of friends playing one game means you're probably going to stick with it.
No worries, late night comfy threads are the best.
