Why do you play Japanese video games? Can you even name a Japanese GOTY in the past 10 years?
>caring about what normalfags/normalfag media think their GOTY is
Persona 3: 2006
Persona 4: 2008
>i didn't play it
>but i'm sure it's fine
>gameplay worse than the previous two games in the series
>Story ranges from meh to bad
>Trailers implied a much more ambitious game that was dumbed down in favor of waifu-pandering
I think Japanese games even achieve Game of the Decade status. From wiki:
>Towards the end of 2007, Super Mario Galaxy was named Game of the Year by IGN, GameSpot, Nintendo Power, GameTrailers, Edge and Yahoo! Games... the game received the "Adventure Game of the Year" award from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences at the Interactive Achievement Awards... placed third in Official Nintendo Magazine's "100 greatest Nintendo games of all time"... on March 10, 2009, the game won the "Game of the Year" award at the 5th British Academy Video Games Awards. Nintendo Power also voted in its August 2008 issue that Super Mario Galaxy was the best game for the Wii; it was also the only Mario game to get a top spot on the list, as well as the only game to be unanimously voted for the top position. Moreover, Super Mario Galaxy was named the Nintendo game of the decade (2000–2009) by both Nintendo Power and Official Nintendo Magazine. Nintendo Power also ranked it as their favourite Mario game ever in issue 278 and in their final issue named it the third greatest video game in Nintendo's history.
>It was also named by Eurogamer and IGN as the Game of the Generation. In 2015, the game placed 11th on USgamer's The 15 Best Games Since 2000 list.
>Implying we couldn't do entire essays on why bioshit infinite sucks so fucking hard
> i didn't understand the story
> y-yeah, it must brain dead retarded haha
> not me though, im so fucking smart I couldn't understand such a simple concept like time traveling
> lelel your game sucks brah xD
Using the multiverse theory to tell is story is always bullshit. There's no point at which you can go back and fix everything. Everything already exists, you can only fix your own timeline. The story also can't seem to determine a main theme. At first it's racism, and then it scraps that it favor of fatherly feelings. It never really concludes the racism storyline.
Gameplay wise, the difficulty is poorly balanced. Normal and easy work, the higher difficulties are just ridiculous spikes in health and damage. Then you can only really carry around two weapons and most of the other weapons are just clones of other weapons, all the powers are very similar to each other in terms of what they're used for, and the leveling system doesn't work because you end up pumping most upgrades into the early weapons, and it's not worth using the later weapons because they're weaker than your early weapons.
It's a mess of a game.
>Using the multiverse theory to tell is story is always bullshit.
It can be done properly.
This site collects all GOTY awards and then gives the GOTY awards to the game that's received the most awards.
2005. Resident Evil 4 was the unanimous GOTY. That falls writhing ten years ago. There you go.
>Shadows of Mordor
Gunplay is awfujl. Straight up awful. Playing on easy or normal is OK because enemy health pools are too low for it to be noticed, but on hard and 1999, enemies end up having huge amounts of health and don't react to being shot at all. Combining this with a 2 weapon limit and a low ammo count makes the problem considerably worse than it is.
One of the worst boss fights in any video game ever. They had absolutely no idea what they were doing when they designed Lady Comstock. A ghost that continually revives enemies (that don't drop ammo) and has an absolutely huge amount of HP, who will also heal a substantial amount if you die. Basically, confusing "how can we make this hard for the player?" with "how can we dick the player over?".
Plot literally gets made up as it goes along. It's not so bad at the start, but once all the alternate reality business gets started, Elizabeth and Booker just do whatever the hell they want. Their answer to basically any adversity is "go to another reality lol", and the ending of the game makes absolutely no sense either. Killing Booker wouldn't change shit as he'd be alive in many other realities as well.
m-me too ;_;
>tfw you will never anally devastate Sarina's phat ass
>implying the story was even hard to understand
the whole story was basic shit really, the multiverse theory is really not hard to understand. The reason a lot of people didn't like it was because it thought it was way smarter than it actually was.
Depends how you define GOTY desu. seems to be more a thing western media is into rather than Japanese and so most Japanese games get ignored my Western media/trashed. Thats just for magazines though someone can have a GOTY from fucking anywhere
