>There are people who complain about Overwatch selling skins.
Why? I'm actually curious why this would be a bad thing, seeing how they decided not to sell heroes (because that would be a fucking death sentence) and maps.
because they don't realize that requiring "progress" of any sort to unlock the skins would just lead to people shitting up games "because I'm so close to my new skin, guise!"
it's either have blizzdrones buy skins or it's have blizzdrones shit up your matches more than usual
As long as they give some basic shit to work toward like alternate color schemes and skins like master skins in heroes of the storm, I'm okay with them selling skins like the origin edition ones
CS:GO does skins well
There are literally underground markets and match-fixing and some gangster shit because of CS:GO skins
They don't add anything and yet some are worth thousands of dollars
Blizzard should do that
>it would be if they started charging real life money for gameplay-affecting items
But they aren't. It's just upfront for the game itself. It's pretty much what TF2 was before it went F2P which is arguably when the game went to complete shit.
Depends on how fast it catches on with the mainstream audience and if its any good or not.
If hearthstone and HOTS are anything to go by /v/ will not care about Overwatch at all and it will be quarantined to /vg/ forever.
I don't think i've seen anything drop off as hard as Evolve did.
Titanfall at least still has somewhat of a fanbase from what i can tell. Literally nobody cared about Evolve as soon as it was released.
>Paid DLC in a full priced game is somehow not a bad thing
>$40 not $60
>Acting like they don't intend on developing after release
>A company wanting to recoup it's spending on launch, and then further funding development is a bad thing
paladins is fun but it's a completely different game
paladins is what you get if you make an MMO but fps based mixed with hearthstone
overwatch is what you get if you want to remake TF2 in pixar
I cant speak to brink, but evolve and titanfall had good reason for failing.
Its tough to pin down exactly why evolve wasnt enjoyable, but the general consensus even among beta testers was that it just want fun for whatever reason. It lacked that ephemeral spark that made you want to keep playing. By all accounts of both streamers and average players who got into the beta, Overwatch doesnt have this issue in the slightest.
Titanfall was a great shooter by all accounts, and added quite a bit of innovation to the modern shooter genre, but it made the mistake of trying to directly compete with the 1000 pound gorilla that is CoD. It took some attention for a moment and then most of the playerbase went right back to the franchise they have been playing for years. If Overwatch were launching 4-5 years ago id say this was a real problem trying to compete with TF2, but that game is on a serious decline and theres actually a decent hole in the market right now that overwatch can slot nicely into.
Now this isnt to say there isnt some other pitfall Overwatch will fall into, its very possible the game still might fail, but it manages to miss the issues these 2 games ran into.
It's $60 on consoles, the paltform it was developed for.
That's enough for me to call it a full priced game.
Keep in mind it's Actiblizz we're talking about here. I give it a year before gameplay effecting things will be buyable as well.
>platform it was developed for
>they still dont have their own beta
>the engine itself was supposed to be used in the next big mmo
It's very clear you have no idea what you're discussing, might as well quit while you're behind.
I don't think many people really think OW is going to flop, just a rather loud minority that thinks Blizzard in general is on the brink of total annihilation.
Y'know, the company that has managed to throw it's own convention every year at a large profit loss for the past 10 years or so.
Usually because paid content in a paid game is usually DLC levels.
Overwatch is a 40$ game asking you to buy skins, which are completely optional, and means funded updates.
Which means they can do more with updates, because the game is paying for itself.
Vidya is expensive.
>"No plans for aditional heroes besides the original 21"
>No idea what the progression system will be but still let people pre-order
>Made from the remnants of project titan in an effort to still release something
I mean i really don't want this to fail but all the signs are there that it's just a cash grab.
what the hell does hots have to do with any god damn thing I or anyone else said?
In anycase HoTS was Blizzard's second most profitable game of 2015 so I doubt they or their investors/shareholders would call it a failure anyways, which is really the only thing they actually care about, not Twitch viewers
>game isn't even out
>the amount of SFM porn released already is fucking ridiculous
>meanwhile they could be making porn from actually interesting games
Why do almost all decent SFM makers have such shitty taste in games? It's always shit like Bioshock, Tomb Raider, Mass Effect, and now Overwatch.
No matter what, /v/ will always hate Blizzard. Always something they did wrong, they are always failures.
Blizzard is shit.
Yeah after he kept saying for a week that there wouldn't be any more heroes
And only after massive negative backlash from the community calling him out on wanting to make future characters paid for.
>"We haven't locked in exactly whether there'll be additional monetisation after launch or not,"
From the exact same article you posted. They still don't know if they will be adding any content after launch wich is a huge red flag for me. They're basicly saying "Don't worry about post-launch support, just give us $40 goyim :^)"
You seriously liked Bioshock Infinite?
It has pretty much no redeeming qualities.
With the exception of maybe one or two Mass Effect characters. All those waifus are pretty shit though.
I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't do that eventually, as part of a stress test or something.
The initial beta (which closed for the holidays and hasn't reopened yet, mind you) had limited servers and shit which is why they were so stingy with invites, and why they invited so many streamers
I'm a blizz-drone and I think these kind of arguments are retarded. You guys sound exactly like a die-hard evolve fan when that game was getting ready to come out, and we all know how well that game did in all of its dlc-glory.
Blizzard is all about over-monetization of their games right now, that's why they're trying to pump out new expansions for WoW every year because expansions make them a lot of money. HotS has a retardedly high priced cash shop compared to all other mobas right now, hearthstone you can't really get anywhere on ladder unless you're buying packs or a legend-skilled player. The only game so far that isn't incredibly costly is diablo 3. I'm not sure what's going on in the sc2 world, I don't care for that game at all.
So don't sit around and try to act like blizzard isn't trying to min/max the profits they make with this game by charging an entry fee and turn around and make people pay EXTRA for cosmetics other than giving them something to work towards in-game.
Would you rather them sell heroes for 60 shekels a pop then them just selling fancy hats? Compared to the shit you just described it's a step in the right direction, and you should know that.
>acknowledge its bait
why do people like you exist
They are stressing that the sole purpose of the beta is to test the game, not solely promote it.
If they let everyone into the beta then they would also let everyone into the forums and it would be much, much harder to sort through feedback.
Because they were announced before the game has a projected release date, that's the only reason someone could have.
Also ignore the dipshits saying it's a full-priced game. It's $40 and all of the 21 heroes are unlocked from the start. Additional gamemodes confirmed free, maps and character DLC is undecided right now but a lot of people are thinking it's going to be free maps + paid character DLC--if they release characters at all.
Blizzard's big thing too is that they support all of their games regardless of success. Fucking D3 still gets content updates along with seasons.
So regardless of how successful HotS is it's not like they are going to cut support for it.
>Additional gamemodes confirmed free, maps and character DLC is undecided right now but a lot of people are thinking it's going to be free maps + paid character DLC--if they release characters at all.
They have literally said multiple times that anything gameplay related (heroes, maps, gamemodes etc) will be free, as the game itself is incredibly balanced on the ability to switch heroes between respawns.
>the engine itself was supposed to be used in the next big mmo
You dont have a shred of evidence to back that up. All you 'know' (which is also just an assumption) is that they recycled the MMO assets and turned them into Overwatch. You dont know if it was just the models, the animations, the skills, the textures, the engine or all of it.
>generate massive hype with twitch-only invites
>send out a weekend teaser for plebs
>close the game down for over a month, killing all hype, killing all overwatch-only streamers, minecraft streamers and LoL streamers go back to their regular games
I don't understand how Blizz could make such a huge marketing blunder. Clearly the devs wanted some kind of limited internal beta to refine the game, but yet they also made a spectacle of a game they weren't planning to sell yet for up to 6 months?
Like holy shit, I hope the advertising execs get fired over this, but you know it'll just be the OW devs instead
Are you retarded? There was an interview where they stated as such, and do you even fucking understand what an engine is?
Do you think this is a modified wc3 engine, you fucking retarded pile of dog shit?
This is the FPSMMO engine they made for their Destiny game, there is no room for discussion on this, now please never post on 4chan ever again
>he doesn't have a high end rig to get in the beta that way
you poor soul
metzen literally explained at blizzcon that they got frustrated with Titan, scrapped it because it was too ambitious, and had an epiphany moment that led to overwatch
it doesn't matter whether it was models, animations, skills, or just ideas - it's the spiritual continuation (not my words) of Titan. A game that massive cannot have been developed "primarily" for consoles - regardless of what /v/ fags think.
You can tell which ones they scrapped or changed to become what we have now. That /fit/ mech looking guy at the back right looks like an earlier version of Pharah or something.
>that biohazard dwarf on the left
oh man I want it real bad
That was the temporary one, right? I think that was more randomized, tons of people I know who had less-than-optimal rigs got in.
>it doesn't matter whether i
Of course it matters. He said that they recycled the engine yet has nothing to back up that claim.
They might as well just have kept a bunch of the ideas and started to re-develop other parts of the game, such as the engine. And that new engine might have been developed specifically for consoles. You dont know, I dont know.
yeah, cause no one could possibly truly have an opinion like this. So just call it bait!
>nothing about 20 trick rate
It's like you meatbags don't have skill and want it
Guess I look the fool, well at least its not as rigid as I thought. Have a cute girl
40 dollars is full priced for a blizzard release to me.
I'm not really down for defending blizzard because of the shit they did to World of Warcraft with this last expansion. All I know is they're going full on jew mode with their games.
>no one knows so everyone's wrong
Try again. Additionally, the physics engine is one they've been using in blizz games forever now - not console dependant.
Face the facts, you're wrong. It's just an internet argument bro
It's sure as hell better than the alternative.
>I'm not really down for defending blizzard.
So your pretty much admitting you have no counter argument and will just shit on Blizz for the sake of shitting on them?
By that logic, your a faggot because I don't feel up for agreeing with you.
Really though, this gen's consoles are closer to PC's than any before, so it's more like any game for PC is easier to port to console or the other way around, just the companies are mostly jewish retards.
I stated I don't like defending blizzard because they are killing their best game off, so I'm not shitposting for the sake of shitposting.
I've loved blizzard for a long time, and I don't want to see them die. However, doing shit like what these past moba fps games did (evolve, titanfall) with the high priced game, and then turn around and make it have content locked behind a paywall is something that pisses me off to see a company pull.
But you know, It's okay when blizzard does it right?
>I will gladly fold when it comes to cosmetics because if I don't appease Blizzard enough they would probably just charge me for something else
I hate this defeatist, toe-sucking attitude.
Odds are they could still turn a healthy profit if they didn't charge for microtransactions. They DO charge because they know people will be OK with it.
WoW is a shit game and you know it, it's pretty much been on fucking life support for years.
And, like I fucking said, their skins and they need money for post development.
If it actively affected gameplay, then you would have some justification, but your evidence has been shattered, glued back, then shattered again.
Think of something else.
>Overwatch girl has a sense of innocence and care and intrigue
>3dpd is smug, vain and generally looks pretty cynical
All I hear from these shills is.
>REEEEE FREE TO PLAY IS ONLY MANDATORY WHEN BLIZZARD DOESN'T DO IT!!!
I thought Titanfall was closer to mobas with the little ai things running around, there's not really any of that in overwatch that I can tell. It just has abilities which other games also have.
I'm asking you if any other game is being judged by the same retarded goalposts as Overwatch is by you shills.
Plenty of games tend to be defended with 'they'll patch it' 'they'll add content later' etc.
Take Arkham Knight, does it even fucking work on PC? Does it have multiplayer? Should you burn that studio to the ground for charging $50 for it?
The ultimates just seem kind of like CoD killstreaks but more varied and such, again not really just a moba thing. Different guns and abilities, kind of like TF2 or other shooters as well, again none of it really screams moba to me, though I don't really play them much myself. You're not even locked into hero selection per match.
