>>323205967 As a longtime fan I think it's one of the worst games in the series.
If you haven't played a game since Genwun, here are my recommendations:
Gold/Silver/Crystal are a direct sequel to RBY and even let you go back to Kanto, really similar to the originals but improved.
FireRed andLeafGreen are remakes of RBY, really faithful but done in Gen 3's engine, which changes a lot of stuff. If you want to play a "newer" game without too much unfamiliarity play that.
There are other games that I like more, but if you want an easy-to-get-into game those two are your best bets. HeartGold and SoulSilver are really good remakes of GSC, too. After that go crazy and play whatever you want, but I would avoid getting XY just because Z (every game has a third version that improves upon things) should be coming out this year.
>>323207769 Why did you buy it? You know 3DS piracy is a thing on all systems right now this second, right?
And I mean it's not like it's completely unplayable, but my big issues with it are:
>easiest games in the series by far, in a series of easy games, they throw a ton of overpowered shit at you without balancing the game around it >rivals are the most annoying shits I've ever seen in a JRPG, full stop >probably a weird complaint but there are too many Pokémon you can catch, makes the region feel like a zoo instead of something natural >region itself has some weird design choices, like a huge snowy mountain in a random spot but one route away it's perfect weather
There are things I did like, I think the villain team is alright and I think it has the best-designed set of new Pokémon we've ever had, but it ranks really low. I can agree with >>323208103 in that there aren't any "bad" Pokémon games and I had fun with it, but there are so many games I would recommend someone play before XY.
>>323208313 Also what >>323208068 said is right, turn off the Exp. Share the moment you get it, if you turn it off you can have at least a little fun with the battles instead of it being a complete blow-through.
Gen 6 is easily becoming the worst in the series, two horrible games in row. If you'd want to play Pokemon start from the originals and head up, playing the definitive versions. Yellow - Crystal - Emerald - FrLg - Plat - Hgss - BW - BW2 Play gen 6 to get an opinion on them, right now everyone seems split.
>>323208313 I played BW2 last year and really enjoyed it, so I decided to wait for a good deal on a 3DS. Got one for $50 yesterday, bought Y digitally today. I made a thread in /vp/ and they said X/Y was better than the Gen 3 remakes so that's what I did...
>>323208772 Don't sell the 3DS, there are good games for it that you can easily pirate. If you haven't opened Y you could return it, if not then might as well play it.
Also I think the Gen 3 remakes edge out XY just because I like RS more than XY. The reason the Gen 3 remakes are hated is because they include almost no content from Emerald and even cut out RS content for no reason but to casualize it, like the Safari Zone is gone.
>>323205967 If you're into online battling it's great, breeding mechanics have never been so straightforward. The game itself falls flat; areas feel sterile and railroaded and battles are never a challenge the only other trainer to have 6 pokemon is the league champ. That said I liked the 3D models, pokemon amie and minigames. It's fun to play through once but I wouldn't expect to put more than 50-60 hours into it unless you get into breeding or battling.
The Exp. share let you level your whole team without having to grind to much or having everyone expect your one or two main pokemons fail behind. That's a good thing in theory, but they didn't adjust the game in consequence, so there is no real difficulty if you use it.
I think you all don't realise, how important 6th gen was to the series and the innovations that improved and keep Pokémon fresh without denaturing the atmosphere. We will all see how this gen will be praised in the future, for what it had done to the license from stagnating.
Unless you want to go to like actual official tournaments, why not just use Showdown? I know Smogon is sometimes smothering but if you really don't like those rules to the point of refusing to use it there are also VGC ladders.
>>323205967 It's pretty good. People will bitch about anything. The story is a bit weird, but not as bad as black and white. if Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are amazingly fun if you played emerald as a kid.
>>323209772 >if Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are amazingly fun if you played emerald as a kid.
This is bait. If you played Emerald as a kid you'll dislike the games more than if you hadn't since Emerald had features that didn't make it into the remake. You should've said RS that way I could assume you just had shit taste.
imo, cons >too fucking linear >too much handholding >almost zero postgame unless you're a pokefag pros: >a lot of pokemon >there aren't many new pokes so this gen didn't made national pokedex much worse >mega evolutions are fun >more customization/socialization i'm not a big pokemon fan, but have played games from every gen. It was overall a fun experience, but after you clock ~40 hours there's literally nothing to do only get it if you don't have other pokemon games to play
The first ten hours or so of XY are absolutely magical. There are so many pokemon to catch, and so much general content up to the second badge or so, its amazing. You can easily spend literal hours wandering between the first and second gyms. And then the game just starts sending you from gym to gym and it becomes a lot less exciting
>>323205967 My perspective, yes. I'd probably do ORAS though.
You know what this place is like, I wouldn't take these fags too seriously. Honestly they're great games. Much too easy if you can play at all competently, but great fun and very pretty otherwise. Most fun I've had with pokemon since gen 3 (the gen I started with).
>>323210073 >>323210136 Well I'm also not an autist who is a critic about Pokémon. I enjoyed going back through and recognizing shit from emerald. Sure it was much easier, but that isn't going to stop me from enjoying a remake of a game I played a lot of as a kid.
>>323210136 I am totally not, the 3d initiation to the series was a hard thing to do and i was one of the first bashing X/Y knowing he game would have CG designs and megas but it turn'd out well >Also 4th Gen best gen
Showdown is the only way I play Pokemon now. I've accepted that Game Freak will never make a world worth exploring and I will never be young enough to look past it again. Besides, not having to grind up to battle levels is a fucking god send.
Yeah, I loved seeing the Frontier in 3D. And all the added locations like the Mirage Tower and Desert Underpass. The best feature of Emerald was the way they changed double battles to more naturally occur, I'm really glad they brought that back too.
Anyone calling ORAS an Emerald remake never played Emerald.
>>323211019 >And I'm still not convinced we get a Z-edition after we got nothing last year. The new Zygarde forms have already confirmed that something is in development at the very least. You shouldn't have bought XY.
>>323211462 I beat the battle pike and fought the rest of the frontier brains but lost Nowadays I've cleared most of them aside from the tower, because I'd rather do the subway in BW2 since the battle themes great.
>>323211592 >A few more Megas and forms aren't worth it. If they didn't release it last year expect some significant additions and story changes beyond new forms and megas. Shit like that takes less than a year to create if ORAS is anything to go on.
