Prelude is nothing like the other X3 games and is not very good at being an X3 game.
It's decent though, just not worthy of the X3 name.

If it's your first in the franchise, meh, but the other ones are simply better so I don't know if I would recommend it at all.

Space engineers if you accept its fate of never having decent multiplayer ever.

Starsector is alright

Freespace 1 & 2 are personal favorites that have aged well (2 more than 1 by far). Might not be your cup of tea and while my stick has been decommissioned for a while I think it plays fine with a mouse.

Though others have said otherwise.
