New Underrail thread, get in here jacks!
Want to try a full psi build, is Riot Armor the best choice for defence in this case? With or without shield? Also should I invest in some Dexterity for traps/throwing as backup to psi?
>Just finished Arena
>Get told I fucking dominated everyone
>Walking around looking for something to do
>Find that Crotech or whatever place
>Talk myself into a job interview
>Heading to the interview guy
>Start talking, asks me why I wana work for them
>Says "You seem to be perfect for the job, or as the people of Core City would put it, you'd dominate at it."
Fucking yes I love this game
Keeping my options open, just kinda wanted to find out what they were about.
Does accepting the quest lock me out of anything or is it just completing the quest?
I was the motherfucking Paralyser, niggas couldn't even get close.
>tfw playing a character with low defence and shit initiative in the arena
Yeah. You can only join one of the Core City factions.
Coretech gives you high tech stuff, JKK gives you sneaky stuff, and Praetorian Security gives you heavy armor and weapons. Coretech also has one of the hardest missions in the game.
Firestarter. I'm not a psionic. I just really fucking like Magnesium Molotovs.
My experience with Underrail:
>get told to go to the northern caves to fix something
>take the boat because it's the only apparent way forward
>vast area of lifeless town without any quests or meaningful dialogue
>need to pay to pass a gate guarded by thugs
>trade my stuff in for charon coins and continue
>there's only more lifeless town without anything to do
>reach yet another gate
>only this time I need to pay 5 times as much to get past
Coretech or JKK. It basically comes down to what Vendor you want. Coretech's vendor is electronics, JKK is light armor and stealth weapons, and Preatorian is heavy armor and weapons.
Tchort is something else entirely, don't worry about it.
Coretech has the best trader for any build I'd argue, simply because energy shields are something for everyone.
How fucking dumb do you have to be? Is this bait?
>restart for the fourth time
>this time no psi powers
>stack up on ammo
>spend all ammo on rathounds
>the crossbow faggot heals up
>forced to beat him to death with 40% hit chance
>beat his faggot rathounds
>evade tanking is godmode
underrail always makes me angry
IM ANGRY ABOUT RAILS!
>can't use ventilation shafts i opened as escape routes while in combat
What's the fucking point?
I think we need to add READ WHAT THE FUCKING NPC'S ARE TELLING YOU TO DO SO YOU DON'T GET LOST AND MAKE AN IDIOT OF YOURSELF onto the infographics
the amount of fucking people that go the complete fucking wrong way on the FIRST quest, or don't bother talking to any of the NPC's Tanner tells you to (therefore missing out on not only all psionics, but also the fucking generator power core) is staggering, then they get pissy and blame the game.
Robots can't open doors. Just sit in that room there for a while and they'll give up eventually and combat will end.
How do you expect to crawl into a small vent while people are shooting at you and/or trying to hit you with hammers?
Also, they'll know you're in there. They'll shoot the fucking vents.
going for an Smg throwing build - I dont want to invest in too many different crafting skills is mechanics and electronics going to be suffcient? Are the infused leather stuff only available through crafting?
>waahh I can't cheese the fights by climbing in and out of vents all the time!
>this is unrealistic so its poor design!
Go play fucking Fallout 4 or whatever you scumbag.
Nah someone said you get a 15% crafting bonus on those workshops, seemed legit.
Yes, because closing a door and waiting isn't "cheesing" a fight.
How fucking deluded can you be?
Fair enough. Could it have hurt to make the walls a skoshe more transparent when you/enemies are obscured by them, though? Like, holy hell is it tough to see my targets sometimes.
>Fair enough. Could it have hurt to make the walls a skoshe more transparent when you/enemies are obscured by them, though? Like, holy hell is it tough to see my targets sometimes.
Easily the most legitimate complaint about Underrail there is. That shit is annoying, I actually killed myself today because electrokinetic kinesis doesn't show up when you hold Shift if you've got it hidden behind a wall, and i'd forgotten I'd put it down.
Edgy as fuck
What did you do to earn it?
The door thing only works against animals and robits, and while i would definitetly agree that its cheap, situations in which there are no humans near doors tend to be pretty low.
I also definitely agree with the camera view. The worst is trying to click an enemy directly behind a door. Hopefully he will do something about it eventually.
>Easily the most legitimate complaint about Underrail there is.
If that's really all there is to complain about then the game is a legit 10/10 because that shit happens like 2-3 times in 20 hours.
Yeah, the wall transparency can be annoying, like when trying to place a force field, or picking up loot. This is one thing that I doubt would require much work to change, so maybe if enough people ask for it he might do it. He is willing to change small shit for quality of life reasons, like when he added the regenerating health warning in one of the patches.
>Went with Protectorate on my first playthrough
>Gimped through the game
cheatto beat Tchortbecause lolstealthmelee
>Filled with rage and determination
>Make a new character
>I'm going to rip that dumb faggot eye out with my bare hands
>Join up with Free Drones
>Hey these guys are way cooler than Protectorate
>They care about each other
>They don't treat me like shit for being a Southerner
>Get mission to blow up Elevator
>Don't have any stealth so go in hot
>Rip and tear through the upstairs
>Some asshole trips the alarm
>Duck in a side room to heal and recharge shields
>Suddenly, door opens
>IT'S THE FUCKING CAU
>Pop Jumping Bean
>Proceed to BEAT THE FUCKING CAU TO DEATH WITH MY BARE HANDS
>THIS IS FOR MY LAST PLAYTHROUGH YOU SICK FUCKS
>They gasp about me breaking bones
>Beg for mercy as they die
You can get a doctor's bench in Junkyard, and a mechanic's bench in Rail Crossing. Not sure if there are any other ones, but I'm hoping there is, as there's a really strong shield that needs making.
>joining the Free Drones because the Protectorate was s-so m-mean!
doesn't make it any more or less cheesy than you think climbing in vents would be
do you even know what you're arguing anymore?
everyone says the dev is bro-tier, so maybe he'll change it if someone suggests it? i can't imagine it being overly difficult to accomplish and it would make the lack of camera rotation a hell of a lot more bearable
>pirate this shit to try first as I don't trust /v/ enough to buy it purely on recommendation
>looks like fallout 2 but less charming and bland as hell graphics
>moving around is so goddamn slow
>actions are clunky as fuck
>no map, no questlog, no any sort of QOL improvements.
>Each important person is on a different floor of a goddamn 9 floor commie block
>Quests are uninspiring and variations of "fetch this shit" or "turn on this shit"
>combat is dull, just spam your attacks with your weapon of choice, use a special skill every 5 minutes and heal before you die. I'm sure it gets better on or whatever but it's not giving a brilliant first impression.
>came to a part where I supposed to find some missing person in a cave. Some black motherfucker refuses to share his cigars. No option to kick his black ass into the lake.
>Explore further. Some psychic bugs keep fucking my shit up
>Decide to stealth. Get halfway there. The some fucking cave critter runs up to me and fucks up my stealth. Psychic bug decides to fuck my shit up.
>Run away back to base. Realise that there is nothing about this game that makes me want to suffer through all this bullshit to get to "the good parts".
>uninstall.exe, thank god I didn't buy.
I can find some masochistic pleasure in Xcom or even darkest dungeon but this game is just a pain to play.
have you even been outside of SGS? holy fuck
there are lods of rathounds and all the little stations you go to have doors, not to mention the chainlink fences with gates
are you just desperate to defend yourself now?
Please, my build had stealthing in mind.
It's just that you walk slower than a geriatric person with one leg while stealthed, while those fucking cave critters just zoom about like fucking sonic.
There's always half a dozen of those fucks in every screen as well, and they all turn invisible unless they are right in front of you so you can plan your route in advance.
Who cares, anon. There is no point in this argument.
I really want Styg to do something about those vents though. Completely overhaul the entire concept. They haunt my dreams. There are in my nightmares, forever out of reach, laughing at me. Mocking me.
I do enjoy the fact that you can peek and all that shit as well as entering the vents themselves - it was pretty awesome just bypassing hacking/lockpicking checks via a multitool. Wish the crowbar actually worked.
Or maybe it does and it's just a strength check I don't know about. Whatever, pure PSI is fun.
Except robots right now. Fuck robots.
>tfw get to fight Styg himself
>tfw I won the initiative roll
Oh, I didn't even realize the omnitool had a lockpicking check. Good thing I leveled that anyway to power all five stations.
Fuck this game is fun.
Only thing that does any damage is Electrokinesis at this point, it looks like
If I'm wrong please correct me
>That final arena battle
>Expecting the big reveal to be that
Garry is Dread Lord
>Garry is Carnifax
>Garry KILLED Dread Lord
>Announcer freaking the fuck out over the mic
>Die in turn 1
>tfw thinking to make an impossible 20 str character with cheat engine to have all the fun in the world with balor hammer
Someone pls stop me.
Counter it by lowering your agility and dexterity to 1.
Maybe even lower Will so you're only weakness is magic.
>or you could always use Hercules. but that'd kill you
>Not having 1000 HP
>Wandering around some place (not gonna say dont wana spoil)
>Doing some minor quest
>Suddenly find a place unlike the rest of the area
>Suddenly the huge doors shut and lock behind me
>A guy walks in
>Speaking to me behind some glass
>Tells me he wants to eat me
>He fucks up
>Manage to escape into his compound
>He's coming for me
Fuck me I found this by mistake too, this is fucking cool.
I somehow lucked out and survived till turn 2 without being Stunned/incapacitated (I honestly don't know how), and from that point on it was just stun into slow into fear into stun into dead. Shame you can't loot his shit, but wew lad Invictus time.
>tfw he died to a trap
anticlimactic but i'm sure as fuck not starting over for a more "satisfying" kill, i was lucky to get that one.
i guess it's a viable option for balor's then
What the fuck did you just fucking say to me you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my station in sledgehammering and I've been involved in numerous secret raids against the Protectorate and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in Rathhound warfare and I'm the top hammerer in the entire Free Drone Armed Forces.
>Shame you can't loot his shit,
Why do people, Al Fabet included, think you can't loot in the arena?
After you kill your opponent just pop some adrenaline and speed loot the body on that final turn.
>MFW I realized Mental Breakdown causes two Bilocation clones to spawn.
>premeditate mental breakdown
>cocoon yourself with forcefield
>sit back and watch from your impenetrable fortress as a man is beaten to death by two identical clones of himself
>Locus of Control
>Cocoon yourself with Forcefield
>Watch former friends beat each other to death for your amusement.
Then just hide behind a force-field and let them be consumed by their nightmares.
Fucking psionics are brilliant. Styg did great. Imma go on the forum and tell him that. Love psionics.
Add the gas grenade to the mix.
Watch at the carnage.
The Locus+Bilocation combo isn't that great at high levels. The Bilocation clones damage doesn't really scale and they'll usually just heal through it.
Enrage is better to use IMO. Or Psi-whatever Interruption on groups of Lunatics.
if not, wew
All right, I'm a huge shitter and I want to get into this game because psi looks cool as fuck. I have no problem with the genre, I really liked the new Shadowrun games.
But I've tried twice now to get a psi character going and I just keep getting my shit pushed in the second I leave the station. Is it because I don't have armor? Is it 1000% necessary to buy armor before you even encounter your first enemy if you want to be a psi user? Is it because I only have 6 or points in CON? Should I really forego INT and psi point regen for a little more health?
Anybody got pointers for a total noob?
Even though its boring is a high constitution build with strength and perception to use metal armor and assault rifles viable? I also put some points into int but I skimped on wil dex and agi.
The first couple of quests are kinda painful (mainly just the first one). Learn to use the environment to your advantage against the rats, blow up exploding barrels, force them in to one square wide chokepoints etc. Once you've got a few more spells you'll start to board the rape train.
There is nothing especially wrong with that build, but i'm going to nitpick. 8 Int is unecessary, you need 7 for a super strong feat (+15 psi energy on headbands you make), but any more then that is superfluous. High con is good, 7 minimum. Make sure you have at least 4 Str so you can wear riot armor (AKA wizard armor). That Per isn't really necessary but there also nothing especially wrong with it, it'll come in handy for detecting stealthed enemies and traps I suppose.
I hope you like crafting because you'll need mechanics, electronics, biology and tailoring. Level them in this priority, Electronics is most important, then tailoring, then mechanics, and you need bio at 35 for that feat I mentioned earlier but for nothing else.
Don't skimp on being a wizard master, max out all three psionic skills on every level up.
theres armor in your locker in your room jack. you'll need to get into the habit of searching containers
>6 points in con
I'm working with 4. You should be fine.
do you plan on using guns?
10 will is mandatory basically. Every point of will is another 8.5% damage to all your magic, you're better off lowering Int and waiting a bit longer before you can make super psi headbands then sacrificing Will. There is nothing wrong with low dex and agi, as long as you accept you will never have the initiative ever ever.
>do you plan on using guns?
I don't have a strong desire to as I'd rather go full psi, but psi seems like the kind of thing that you need a backup plan for at early levels and per has some other nifty traits along with being the gun skill.
so I'm trying to roll a tanky muscle wizard.
any tips? planning to rock full metal armor and fists
What's your most annoying enemy, jacks?
I fucking hate Crawlers. They're thoroughly tedious to fight.
And they're the only enemy I've ever seen dodge a full five-bullet burst fire at 80% chance to hit.
I c wut u did thar.
If you're goin fists you need a lot more Dex. Almost all the cool fist feats require Dex. If you want to be a punchwizard you won't do well in heavy armor.
same here, crawlers are a fucking chore, even with a stealth build + motion goggles half the time they bump into you before you can see them. the stealthy crossbow humans can be annoying too if they stun you.
I can more or less agree with Crawlers at this stage. There are certainly more tough enemies out there, but Crawlers hitting you and then disappearing again, then having to wait around until they decide to not hide immediately afterwards is definitely tedious.
*tck* *tck* *tck* *tck* *tck* *splat*
10 starting Str
Eventually get Con to 10 for Thick Skull
6 Int for crafting
Get at least 6 Agi for sprint
Dump Dex, Will, and Perception
Wear heavy armor. Take hammer feats, Heavy Armor crafting feats, and crit damage feats. Sprint around like an asshole mashing people's faces in.
You don't have enough CON for one of the best CON traits, Last Stand.
Tactical vests or riot armors are more than tanky for anything you can encounter if you couple them with energy shields.
Psi fists are honestly pretty shit unless you fully dedicate your build to them and them alone because they will such 5 psi on each melee attack, psi which you need for other shit.
So decide first what you want to do. Here's my example of tank mage with grenades as backup weapons.
Guess I'll just go riot armor with psi plates and put some more points into Dex.
Gonna spook raiders and cave protectorate faces in. See ya jacks, will post update at Depot A.
I killed the last opponent in the arena and became invictus. However I failed to get enough action points to loot his body before the match was over.
Does he have anything really good I should not pass up?
>there are people who never used gas and cryo grenades in conjunction with psi abilities
You only need 20 in chemistry to craft a grenade that lasts 10 turns, infects anyone inside with contamination and deals good damage EVERY turn while being on a build which can effectively seal the only entrance for 4 hours.
What's your fucking excuse?
It makes you continue playing the game, which is called Underrail.
Daily reminder that if you use .44 hammerers you are doing it all wrong
>you're already playing underrail
int is an important stat, don't dump it
Around level 12 ish onward, I've been just kind of throwing puts around in my crafting skills because I've got extra to spare. I wouldn't bother with restarting, since by the time you get to the point that you'll want those nifty grenades, you'll be able to start ranking the shit up.
>roll first character, doesn't matter what you chose
>get assraped at Depot A or earlier
>roll second character, learn from your mistakes
>go to Depot A, make it through with some effort
>go to core city, tackle arena
>decide that you want to be even stronger
>roll third character, destroy everything
that's usually the natural progression. but tell us what kind of stuff you wanna do.
It's better than the hammerers in that it has a far tighter damage spread and really good crit damage for a pistol, but it's shitty overall since it has an even higher AP cost and you can't mod it with rapid reloader, so you will be stuck with even less shots.
That's the problem with most uniques, no mods. But they are a nice alternative for no crafting builds and it's arguably more fun.
>Weren't pistols heavily nerfed on release?
Only the energy pistols I think. An electroshock pistolbuild used to one-shot 3 enemies each round if done right.
>Is a dedicated pistol build still good?
If you do things right you can get up to 19 shots per round, and if you have Expertise, special ammo and high crit chance it all adds up pretty nicely.
Explore every nook and cranny
Please for the love of god read.
Also if you feel like you're weak at first, don't worry too much. Everyone starts off badly.
While exploring unknown territory, quicksave often. Theres no telling when some dickass assassin or hunter might pop out of stealth and kill you before you can react.
>Tfw just finished the last fight of the arena
>feeling like a god, a titan amongst men
>go for a stroll in the back alleys of core city
>jumped by some punk hunter and killed in two turns
>See on /v/ it's a good game
>Create new game
>See the oddity system
What the fuck? So it's basically fetch quest the game? Glad they implemented the classic system. I hate looking for shit boring as fuck.
Utility station in Insitute of Tchort
Pretty good on bleeding builds.
What? I'm not sure whether to feel upset or confused. It's not even vaguely comparable to fetch quest. Oddity has shit scattered around everywhere that you study to gain experience. It rewards exploration, and noncombat builds, but even if all you're doing is looting everything in site, oddity will do you just fine.
>So it's basically fetch quest the game
You aren't tasked with finding anything. It's sort of like Pillar's system except with consumable items instead of areas
Hell no. You find shit that gives you experience. Nobody ever tells you to go look for it.
Is there any way for me to get a Black Eel sigil without killing one of them and sending the whole faction hostile? I was dumb and didn't let any eels die, so I cant get the sigil off their dead body.
Yeah but if you want to become stronger you're going to have to look in every nook and cranny you can find.
I don't know, it doesn't make sense to me. I like grinding and looting to me. Glad they implemented the classic system.
>I just bought the game but let me tell you how it works
It's fine that you like classic more but oddity is a fine system too
How wrong am I though? You're going to have to look for shit. I don't know. I'm not trying to mindlessly bash the game here. I want to enjoy it if it's more enjoyable than classic though. Should I try Oddity?
Just give it a shot. Early game goes pretty fast anyway.
The nature of the game is that you end up looting every container you find anyway. I mean if that really sounds like something you don't want to do, then take classic. Either is fine. Classic even feels more rewarding in certain ways because you know even if this group of assholes you kill have nothing of value, you'll still be gaining useful XP from them, whereas with oddity you could potential gain nothing at all.
Is there a full list of psi mentors yet?
I remember that each doctor in major settlement aside from junkyard and SGS has one.
Also that psychokinetic mine is somewhere in depot A.
Also that cryo shield can be found in the area with Vanga and her Lunatics.
Also there's cryo orb in the location with mutants in core city where you assist Gorsky.
And that there's self-immolation spell in the rape dungeon basement in Foundry.
Where's the rest?
10 CON is not necessary. 9 at best.
1 point is better used for 4 dex so you can get lockpick without skill penalty and arguably for 50 in Throwing for a good accuracy on medium distances.
It's obviously not fit for players who like killing everything in sight.
It's for players who like to sneak around and use non-violent approaches when possible. Makes them not end up underleveled.
you can equip it without the requirement.
you'll be a snail though.
It takes Locus 15 turns to cooldown. If you get stunned or incap'd again, you're fucked.
But then, if you haven't murdered everyone before they get a chance to restun you, then you've failed as a psyker
What is the highest quality limit on crafting materials?
Is 150 in tailoring and electronics enough to craft the most advanced tactical vests, psi crowns and energy shields possible?
Also, do persuasion checks go past 100 at some point?
Thinking about full psi who is more or less competent in throwing chemical and incendiary grenades at medium distances.
>What is the highest quality limit on crafting materials?
170+ is the highest I found.
>Is 150 in tailoring and electronics enough to craft the most advanced tactical vests, psi crowns and energy shields possible?
It might be a little too few to craft something made entirely out of only 170+ parts.
Its possible to go stealth and sledge however knife is way better suited for stealth because of its unique perk called Cutthroat. The perk makes stealth killing a lot easier than hammer because in order to pull off a stealth kill you need to kill them before they make noise ( Gun Shot, Yelling). But what Cutthroat does is it stuns your opponent thus silencing him and giving you plently of time to cut your opponent down.
Sledge is possible you just need to find a way to kill or silence them before your opponent makes noise.
Not built for stealth at all, but I was able to get some gear together and snuck up on a lunatic. Bashed his head in in one turn...and then his buddy apparently saw and shot the hell out of me.
So do you have to kill them in one turn, or in one attack?
Out of curiosity, what sort've shoes have my fellow psykers been wearing? I've just been running around in some ancient rathound Tabis for a while, just because I'm not sure what else to wear.
Depends on what you need.
I've invested in throwing a little so i went with heavy boots that give caltrops immunity.
You don't really need to move around that much as a pure psi who has force walls and traps at his side.
I've heard that when you get to a certain point, no one wants to talk to you and so you can't complete any more quests. I don't think I'm terribly close to that point, but for future reference, when should I stop the main storyline?
FUCKING GO PSYCHOSIS
YOU /WILL/ REGRET GOING TRANQUILITY DOWN THE LINE
THE BENEFITS OF HAVING AN ON DEMAND CRIT ARE ---ENOURMOUS---
THE HP DAMAGE PUTS YOU AT 86%, WHICH IS THE THRESHHOLD TO NATURUALLY REGENERATE BACK TO 100%
THIS MEME ABOUT TRANQUILITY HAVING MORE CONSISTENT DAMAGE IS RETARDED, JUST USE A FUCKING PSI BOOSTER YOU IDIOTS
but not until you've crafted -10% on both your riot gear and psi headband senpai
Tranquility + Meditation: can cast way more per turn which leads to way better CC potential and defensive options while still having pretty good overall damage output.
Psychosis + Psionic Mania: horrible psi cost on everything traded for 15% crit chance and 1 guaranteed crit, but if your cryo orb fucks up and misses your opponent or you don't manage to mow them down quickly enough, you're utterly fucked.
Overall Tranquility wins by far, i think. Psionic crit builds can dish a good damage, but they are horrible at CC. And underrail has a very good psionic CC.
>but not until you've crafted -10% on both your riot gear and psi headband senpai
You know what, I don't need to pick tranquility or psychosis on level fucking 2
I'm gonna wait till I get both riot gear and headband up, then I will save before getting the next perk and test around which feels better.
>more spells equal more damage
Not just more damage. More combo potential which is way better.
Things like breaking frozen opponents, telekinetic proxy combinations, i'm not even saying about thermodynamicity, how much you can even cast in a single turn, especially if you pop psi booster with doctor's pouch right in a middle of a turn?
Right, sorry about that. I did a little light reading, didn't want to spoil myself too much. I want to be sneaky snipey scavenger guy
Guns, Evade, Stealth, Hacking, Lockpick, Mechanics, Electronics, and Tailoring
Aimed Shot and Burglar
Are social skills truly useless? I've always liked being the persuady guy ever since Fallout 1/2 from way back but I keep seeing that social skills aren't so hot in underrail.
Thanks, I try read gud.
I'll make sure to up my quicksave/backupsave to full power, thanks.
>How does this look for a sniper build? I'll probably dabble in traps latter
might as well cut 1 from dex and add it to agi, traps won't suffer because it will get +20% synergy from mechanics and lockpicking and you get some more bonus to stealth for bigger "snipe" numbers and access to "Blitz" which is basically a free adrenaline shot every 10 turns for a sniper and it will let you open up with snipe + aimed shot from a 8.6mm reaper.
>3 DEX and 3 CON on Snipers
Enjoy reloading every time you get immobilized and not having a good backup in case someone hits you with crippling strike.
>access to "Blitz" which is basically a free adrenaline shot every 10 turns for a sniper and it will let you open up with snipe + aimed shot from a 8.6mm reaper.
Useless once you get a Spearhead with rapid reloader since it one shots everything just as good, waste of 4 skill points, 6 AGI for Sprint is enough.
> "Blitz" which is basically a free adrenaline shot every 10 turns for a sniper and it will let you open up with snipe + aimed shot from a 8.6mm reaper.
>2 shots from 8.6 Reaper
Want me to tell how I know you never even attempted that and just talk shit?
Sure, you can if RNG won't fuck up your cryo orb shards.
Meanwhile i will enjoy consistent 300% HP to damage conversion thermodynamic induction plus shitton of CC and defensive options at the same fucking time in one turn.
Yeah, social sucks. You don't get nearly as much from them here as in Fallout.
Also, you're pretty good for a first-timer. Aimed Shot is a must, but Burglar isn't that good. I'd take Nimble instead; you're supposed to be wearing light armor as a sniper.
Mechanics and tailoring will get you some neat armor and weapons. Electronics is a must if you want the best gear.
Consider raising PER to 10. Main stat maxed is a must here. Maybe take a point away from WIL, it's useless for a sniper.
- How the hell do I sell my shit? I have shelves full of loot, but I can't sell most of it because the vendors refuse to buy it (even the ones that sell that type of gear)
- How can I repair my shit without breaking the bank? Armor and weapon repair kits are insanely expensive.
- Is it worth investing in crafting, and if it is, what kind of crafting skill should I invest in?
- Should I invest in both lockpicking and hacking?
- Should I invest in mechanics or electronics? I did that quest to get Gorsky the keycard and I had to go Rambo on the raiders because I couldn't hack the turret or repair the elevator.
Currently I am using a melee + psi build. I am kicking a lt of ass after I got myself a shock steel sledgehammer and a shock steel knife. I feel like a muscle wizard.
Is atrocious. Snipers need the Escape Artist feat to counter immoblization, and that requires 30 dodge and 7 DEX.
Also, Snipers need a backup weapon in case the sniper rifle fails. It can fail in 2 ways; either if someone is too close and you can't make the distance, or if you are under effects that lower your STR.
Pistols have no move/range penalties, no STR requirement, benefit from DEX and use the same skill as sniper rifles. Go figure.
Start with 5, raise to 7 during level ups.
Don't need that much. You rarely will even have enough space to run for so long. Leave it at 6 and take Sprint feat, it's more than enough.
You will die, alot. Doesn't matter if you stealth, there will be multiple cases where you can't start combat on your own terms and 3 CON will doom you. Take at least 5.
>visit United Stations embassy
>ambassador explains to me someone's been listening on on their communication lines so now they have to use messengers
>after leaving spooky guy invites me to a friendly chat
>agree because I badly need money
>he asks all sorts of questions about the embassy's security
>very subtle, brah
>wants me to put a bug in their ventilation system
>yeah, not suspicious at all
>report him to the guards
>he now considers me terrorist scum, threatens me, and doesn't pay a single charon
>reload and finish the task because money
>Abram calls me to help breaking into the prison
>see dead prisoner
>see doctor vivisecting mutants
>realize Abram was trying to locate this girl all along but when his first attempt failed he had to risk everything on trusting me because he was quickly running out of time and options and I was his best shot at finding her before it's too late
O-oh. Suddenly he doesn't seem that evil anymore. I still don't know why he needed me for the prison break instead of doing it himself, but the rest finally makes sense.
I've completed a run as both Tranq and Psyk and without a doubt the benefits of psychosis are more pronounced. Having more "consistent" damage doesn't matter if it leaves enemies alive. You need to thin enemy numbers as fast as fucking possible at the start of a fight, and psionic mania gives you the absolute most effective tool of doing this.
You're free to take tranquility if you want, but just look back at older threads and you'll see the people who are nearing the endgame wishing they'd picked psychosis. People have even tried to figure out how to edit feats with cheat engine, but apparently it doesn't work. You'll be one of them eventually.
Also I love this meme that picking psychosis somehow means you lose all your CC options, they just cost more. The best CC in the game (force field, if you aren't counting locus shenanigans) only costs 24 psi with a proper psychosis build.
Riot gear gives the exact same bonus but with significantly more defense.
>Want me to tell how I know you never even attempted that and just talk shit?
You are a retard who can't do basic math? Like the other anon said it's overkill but totally possible if you want to do it for whatever reason.
Just stash crap in nearby barrels or something, so whenever you go through town you can grab it and sell it to whoever is buying. There's no real secret to it.
A few points in the relevant crafting skill, 25 if I recall, and you can put scraps together into repair kits. Then with whatever points you need for the weapon, you can recycle it into scraps. So you can take junk and turn it into repair kits for your nice crap.
Crafting is amazing. As a psi melee, I'd do mechanics and electronics largely, with a bit of biology and tailoring.
Lockpicking and Hacking are both good, but aren't necessary. I prefer it, but it's up to you.
>leaves enemies alive
Oh yes, alive in deep stun for 3 turns with silver of his HP left if alive at all.
>but just look back at older threads and you'll see the people who are nearing the endgame wishing they'd picked psychosis
Implying it's not you alone samefagging hard for a few last threads.
>It doesn't work like that, Al Fabet.
>You'll get used to it.
>Depends on what you're rolling. Mechanics is good for everyone, Tailoring is great for Psi and Tank, bad for Stealth. Chemistry takes a lot of investment to be useful, and ingredients are crazy rare. Biology is for getting said ingredients.
>Yes, you should. If you have to choose though, lockpick is better.
>Mechanics, preferably both.
Also, I'm real proud of that. Mind sharing some stats? Trying to pull off the same thing here, failing hard.
>he uses cyrostasis
>he took cryogenic induction
cryoblock is garbage and you're an idiot for wasting a feat slot on it
unless you're seriously implying you cryobolted an enemy to put a stack of chill on them, then cryoblocked them, because holy fuck what a waste of an opening round
> and you can put scraps together into repair kits
Neat. Is there a blueprint required for that?
This is my dude. I copied this build from someone else, but I have just be winging it with my point allocation and feats. I currently have like 35 in psychokinesis and 25 in metathermics. Melee is at 45. For feats I have been taking relevant psi and melee feats like tranquility and force user. I'm level 7 at the moment.
Fun fact: if someone modded icons for Telekinesis skills into fireballs, lightning spells and the like and called the class Wizard, you autists would quit pretending that it's something special.
>I'm a psyker
>you mean a magic user
>no, mages use fireballs, i kill them with pyrokinesis
>those psi users who never never tried upgraded cryo spells in conjunction with Cryogas Grenades
Not really worth it since they cap at 60% reduction, so you will get hit eventually. Maybe dodge, but evasion is just a waste.
It's better to invest in electronics for energy shields. They will make you pretty much iinvulnerable against firearms, but they are weak against melee.
literally everyone has been calling psi shit magic
what the fuck are you even on about
shit one of the reasons I like this game more then fallout 1 and 2 is because I can do magic
and magic > mundane
Crawlers hands down. Two crawlers at the same time is basically gg since they just bump into you and a big part of my strategy is based around traps and taking shots from a distance.
Crossbow people are annoying too, but less so.
That sounds pretty reasonable. I guess I'll prioritize melees with my opening shot and craft a decent shield. Good thing snipers aren't feat starved. I'm guessing leathers and tactical vests are the way to go armor wise?
By the time you have a rapid reloader you should be using Spearheads to get 2 shots each turn instead of wasting wasting 4 attribute points to get 2 shots every 10th round.
Not to mention every single shot will have inferior accuracy because there won't be any room for bipod, or inferior damage if not using smart module.
I bet you two also don't use rapid reloaders with pistols because more base AP means more crit chance from Steadfast Aim. Same shitty logic, using rapid reloaders on anything but Spearheads does more harm than good.
Also, good luck starting a fight with Blitz out of stealth with no MPs or not enough of them if you have Interloper.
There is so much wrong with that tactic it just hurts.
>you can't do that, you're wrong!
You can, but it's like making a 10 STR 3 DEX pistol build. I don't see a point since it will be objectively worse and not even different gameplay wise.
Talking about flags, there will be one group later on, you'll know when you see them. Don't fight them, don't fight back, don't do anything against their wishes, don't try to tell them what to do. They get easily offended and like to hold grudges.
It's amusing how upper underrail is both larger and smaller than lower underrail. Also is upper underrail what was left behind from before whatever event drove humanity underground? It looks a lot more like modern stores and metros up there. Or is that just me?
Either 7.62 or 9mm. 7.62 has better AP cost curve early on, but 9mm gets better once you find rapid reloader.
I recommend using both in your 2 weapon slots.
As for the frames, I don't like Hammerers because of their shitty damage spread that can either make love to you or fuck you in the ass.
I would use 9mm Neo Luger and 7.62 Falchion.
It's the same subject though.
If it makes ou feel better, yes you *can* do that, but it's stupid and shouldn't be advised to new players who ask if their stat distribution is good.
Yes, because I didn't take into account something that is just stupid. Mental shortcut, if you will.
Don't take everything literally. if someone tells you "you can't lick your own asshole here" it doesn't mean you literally can't do that.
Clarke's laws are more of simple observations than strict laws. Even art has to follow logic to some degree.
>Also these threads belong to /vg/ because they're generals
We tried, it died.
>and the hugboxing is unbearable
Thank you for arguing for the sake of arguing then, hope you feel better.
>We're not at each others throats constantly, so we must be removed from /v/.
Well, I guess you're not totally wrong, but /vg/ threads die. Besides, we only take up one thread at a time, so it's hardly spamming your precious board.
>I'm so smart I say stupid things! It's not because I'm an autistic moron I swear!
Anon you were simply trying to be a smartass and got served a nice shit sandwich instead. If you want to look smart, think before posting otherwise you just look like an autistic retard (like now).
Nope, I just said you can't so something without specifying you can if you do something stupid. I thought it's obvious enough.
Again, don't take things literally. This actually is a real and common symptom of autism.
The irony at its finest.
You don't really bring anything to the conversation so I see no point in continuing, I'd rather talk about the game instead.
If you want to have the last word and win yet another Internet argument, here is your chance to shine.
I'm fine with killing them if I have to, but they surround me from three different directions. First time I've had any issues since the Depot. Emps mean I have no shield, and then the laser pistols or whatever means my armor is useless.
Just threw everything into Dex.
Grabbed every single serrated weapon I found.
Took bleed, unarmed, knife and stealth feats.
Picked up throwing later on, was not disappointed.
Nade, throw, punch, stab, grab.
Also, Rathound Regalia is OP as fuck. The Claw is pretty neat too.
>tfw Blaine finally sold me acid bullets blueprint
I'm never going to use normal ammo again.
>Attacking some sort of lurker lair near rail crossing
>killed 3 guys that were secluded
>bear traps in front of a door blocking the path of two others in a room
>Bear traps and catrops littering the path in the hallway from which i engage
>Get shot each time by either telekinetic punch, flashbangs or shock bolts
>Lose a turn
>Damage piles on
>Crossbow guy eventually rapes me from a distance
Pretty much how I start all of my Snipers, except with 9 PER and 5 CON instead.
I would recommend to put your first 2 level up points into DEX, one into CON, and the rest of them into PER.
seems good for a sniper build. Make sure to keep your leather armors updated with as much stealth as possible and make sure your electronics is good enough to make decent googles and put those special attack boosting scopes on your snipers and pistols for the fatty damage boost.
Tac vests and even riot gear are fine on Snipers actually. The riot gear 75% more resistance/threshold against melee is especially good since shields are not very effective against melee, and 20%-30% penalty is fine. CAU gear is excellent if you don't mind killing them.
You don't need to push your stealth as high as possible with gear, Snipe will be one shoting everything if you just max it every level and wear any black coat.
Top lel. I engage them again, but this time I killed three more dudes in a side room so they won't be a bother. I do a shitty crit that doesn't kill a gunner, they move, suddently I fall dead. A bolt found its way through my shield and my 260 hp.
I'm such a shitter /v/. I picked Oddities, generally put my skill points far outm with 15 being the max in Melee, got Psi abilities in hope to read minds and shit, and I walked into the tunnels to do the first objective. I got rekt by the raiders. Should I just restart?
>I walked into the tunnels to do the first objective
Wrong way Anon.
Elevator, level 9 is where you want to go.
>Are amplified energy shields always preferable?
No, actually only in one case.
>I have a standard one with 324 capacity, and the amplified one has only 120. What's up with that?
They lower the capacity, but raise the damage thresholds in return.
So they are ideal to protect you from a single blow that would be otherwise fatal, like Aimed Shot from a sniper rifle.
It's good to have one amplified high freq shield in case you expect a Sniper will be able to take an Aimed Shot at you, but they are really shitty otherwise.
Best all around are the efficent ones, good converters more than double the capacity with no downsides.
Conservative are really good for "casual" use, good ones eat like 2 capacity per 5 seconds, so if you want to walk with a shield on at all times use those.
Looks good, may get this game at one point. That name though makes me feel like someone needs to do a undertale/underrail cross over.
Sounds good, thanks again.
So what's the best place to buy leather / electronic components? So far the max quality I've bought in Core City was 88. Is there some trader that sells even higher?
The dude that gives you the Flux capacitor? That's weird because I don't see any Haxxor item that he has in the barter window. He only has omni tools and other shit I don't need
There's a game called 7,62 High Calibre on Steam that does something I really like.
All enemies in your visual range are displayed in little windows on the right, along with how far away they are. This makes finding/attacking obscured guys way way easier.
I'd be happy just being able to see grinds behind walls.
Going to do some gimmicky build.
This one is a bleed/poison edgelord. Heavy spiked armor, serrated knives, throwing knives. Anyone ever do anything like this?
>want to make a joseph joestar juggernaut
>lightning punches requires <25% armor penalty
Just bought this game. There was an image here that was basically a quickstart guide on stats, the experience system, etc. Anybody got it still?
I want to thank the anon who yesterday told me about the immortal guy at Depot A.
I went back and searched through the place again for the key, but had to look it up after I once again found nothing. As it turned out the key was on a mutie that died in such an inconvenient place that I gave up trying to loot it after about 5 or so minutes of unsuccessful clicking. This time I kept up the pixel hunting until I finally got it. Who would have guessed that the only corpse I couldn't loot in the entire game would have the key.
>all this talk about snipers needing dex and decent con
>worried if I fucked up my second character
Guns, throwing, stealth, hack, lockpick, mechanics, chemistry, tailoring
On a whim decided to bump str to 6 at level 4 to use ARs, I'm done with finding the drill and am at level 7 now. Should I start over? Been using the MP6 anyway since I haven't tried making an AR yet.
If you take Psychosis and have 9 constitution, you can take the Survival Instincts feat which gives you a 50% base crit chance, this without considering psi headbands. You can neglect the extra psi cost per spell with some good crafted gear. There's also an electronics feat that allows your crafted psi headbands to give you extra 15 psi points, so running out of mana won't be a problem later on. In general, Psychosis suits aggresive playstyles, and pays off later on.
If you pick Tranquility and it's related feats you can be more careless with your spells as you won't run out of mana so fast, which allows for a better defensive playstyle. You will also be able to pick Premeditation, which will give you the ability to throw even more spells per turn. In general, Tranquility path allows for a much wider margin of error and it's good during all stages of the game.
Oh, forgot to add: to have the extra 30% bonus crit chance from Survival Instincts, you must be under 30% health, so you REALLY need to be careful. That's why it's more suited for aggressive players.
>trying not to freeze with the lads around this barrel fire
>mickeys brains suddenly evacuate his skull outta nowhere
>can barely make out some asshole a mile down the tracks before he takes off the other way
>no choice but to chase him but we can't get close enough before he pops one of us and runs farther
>we just keep running till the last man
>who the fuck coded us
Sounds like you made a gimped build or you're bad if you cant get through the second quest. If you really do like fallout 2 then try and push through the start of the game because it really is enjoyable and quests do get better.
