I got burnt out back around DPPt, went through the motions with SS and White, and just gave up entirely after I finished the main story on the latter.

Though eventually I picked up X on a whim and it kinda rekindled my interest. I know a lot of people prefer the gen 5 games but X (and Alpha Sapphire, for all its problems its still a remake of my favorite game in the series) is what got me back into the series so I kinda prefer it to gens 4 and 5 personally speaking.

Soul Silver is when I realised I was over Pokemon. Silver was favourite and the battery in my cart is dead now with my 251 save gone forever, so I was really excited for SS but trying to play it I just got bored with it around Olivine City.

But with the way the games work you don't really get much variety in the teams you can use during the campaign either. You're stuck with the same small selection of monsters available until end game and even in the games where trading is unlocked at the start most of the monsters you could trade in to try and add variety don't evolve (of have annoying evolution requirements) or learn most of their moves until lv40+ so they're boring all through the campaign anyway.

Remember at Unova they were trying some weird soft reboot thing where they were originally trying to ignore all previous seasons as much as possible so that new children would not be confused if they referenced something from 2 or more regions ago.

Does anyone else prefer gen 1 and 2 because of how much more simple and realistic the world was in those games? There are pokemon designs in every gen I love and hate so I understood why people complained about newer designs. I think over time I've grown to like gen 1 and 2 the best because they had a real urban feel to them, maybe like the mother games.
