Depends on what you want. The best strategic wargame is the War in the East/West games. Alternatively there is War in the Pacific, which does every day in the war.

For shooters it's really CoD2, Brothers in Arms and now Red Orchestra 2. I personally don't like the twitch shooting you can do in RO2 but it's all i've got these days.

PR WW2 is fucking great but they fucked the Omaha Beach map up, now the US can barely even get on the beach, had a match in which the Germans got about 400 kills while the US only had 100. Carentan is good though. Shame they only do short tests.

It's a mod team making a full game, last I remember they were going full autism on the ranks so I wouldn't expect much from it. You'd need a lot of people to do proper musket volleys anyway, it was never a good idea back in mount and musket or napoleonic wars to form even two rank lines.
There's also Battle Cry of Freedom too. Best to keep an eye on both.

the Multiplayer would blend RTS elements, buying and positioning gun bunkers, artillery guns, digging new trenches and so on.
