Is there any mmo worth playing on the market right now?
Preferably p2p, f2p can't be good by default
No there aren't.
There's only shit theme parks, and gimmick hybrids that disguise themselves as sandbox.
Might as well rename the entire genre to Massive(ly) Multiplayer Online Facebook Games.
>Is there any mmo worth playing on the market right now?
Nope. I play Rift to scratch that mmo itch from time to time, but no where near as much as i used to play mmo's back in 2007-10.
The usual stuff is all still there. It's a matter if you enjoy it or not.
Only thing thats newish soon will be Blade&Soul on the 18th.
Honestly asking on /v/ abuot mmorpgs is stupid. You're better off just looking at on of the big mmorpg sites and scanning offical fourms to see if it's decent or not.
Your options are either WoW or FF14. People talk shit about them a lot, but if your goal is a to play a MMO with entertaining end-game content that you can play regularly those are really the only choices. Anything else may be fun for the leveling experience or pvp for a while, but you will get bored.
So....this healslut meme
If I play a mmo and roll a healer what are the odds I can get someone to be lewd with me without a big portion of the guild thinking im weird? I've never played an MMO to endgame besides Ragnarok when I was a little kid.
There isnt any.
We can meet up and play a real life MMO though. You will be the healer.
Blade and Soul is supposedly really good, comes out January 19th.
Black Desert is currently in alpha for NA and EU, so just a majority of translate work. It shouldn't be too far off if you want to wait.
>Blade & Soul
It might be new but it has all the signs of being the next Archeage, i.e. a cash shop grindy Korean piece of shit. Not worth it imo.
Sorry OP but there really aren't any. As >>323147961 said, all the major ones are theme parks that get boring after you realize there's nothing else to do other than repeat the same grinds over and over for some pointless gear that'll be outclassed by complete shit in the next patch anyway. Source: salty FFXIV player.
If you're still determined, I'd suggest playing Runescape, either OSRS or DarkScape, but if you didn't play RS back in the day you'll probably think it's dated shit.
If you've never played an mmo before than there is a smorgasbord of shitty ones you will find fun just because the concept is new to you. In fact this is the only thing really keeping the genre on life support right now.
Otherwise no there is no mmos worth playing right now it's literally just the same shit with a maybe a useless gimmick thrown in and a different coat of paint.
Its made by Koreans. It will be a shitty grindfest. There hasn't been a single Korean MMO that has done well in the western market, and for good reasons.
This. WoW may still have a sizable amount of subs, but its numbers dramatically dropped a few months after they released WoD, and Legion is going to make it drop even further (Jay WIlson is the lead dev on that expansion).
If it isn't dead or hasn't gotten worse (if thats possible) Archage was pretty fun when I played it, just don't pay for anything unless you actually like playing it because late game is a ridiculous grind fest and leveling with a bad spec setup is a recipe for disaster
I can't quest or level my character hes literally so undergeared and outclassed by his current quest zone, that game is a fickle bitch but fun as fuck once you get a nice boat
Any game can be good if played with friends. Playing an MMO alone is like going to a theme park alone. Some rides might be fun, but you'll look around at everyone else having fun together and wish you could be included. MMOs these days are theme parks. It's hard to say whether one is better than another, and everyone will defend their MMO of choice, but the fact is they're all pretty much copying WoW's successful formula.
tl;dr MMOs are only "worth playing" if you have friends to play with.
>1 week after HoT release
>new weapon and armor set released in gem store
>2 weeks after HoT release
>new weapon set and glider skin released in gem store
>3 weeks after HoT release
>new weapon set released in gem store
>4 weeks after HoT release
>new weapon set released in gem store
I'm glad they fucking made a winter break. This is not fucking acceptable.
You really feel the f2p aspect and how they try to squeeze any penny out of their playerbase.
What exactly killed it?
PvP is more active thanks to leagues, there's more to do in PvE now than there ever was and the current raid is a good framework for end game PvE going forward. The only "dead" game mode is WvW and they're working on a major overhaul for that this year.
Plus no bullshit monthly fees. The only reason to hate GW2 is if you're a gear addled MMO player that needs a new tier of gear every few months to replace the gear they just grinded for ad infinitum.
GW2 is a pretty good contender right now for being amongst the top mmo's, not that it has much competition.
ffxiv is my main game atm
it's alright. has several glaring issues but does a lot right too.
the main issue currently being that the end game raid isnt very easy. whether or not you like that is up to you
the next series will be slightly scaled back and it comes out in February. the game and combat are VERY slow till about level 40. honestly i hate to say it, but it really doesnt pick up till then on any class.
give it a month sub, get to 50 and you might like it. balmung is the unofficial RP server if youre into that, race barely matters unless youre a meta Black Mage.
once youre at 50 decide if you wanna keep going. if you do, then buy Heavensward and get to 60. then you can try the savage tier of raids. people like to hate on them cause theyre pretty punishing but idk i like them. i hope you enjoy.
>still believing the lies
How long have you been playing the game? It's time to wake up.
PvE is currently just grinding events to get idiotic currency for skins that look retarded while also farming tons of exp for gimmicky shit you can only use in 4 maps of the game. Not to mention all there is to do is basically just farm gold for cool looking armor and weapons. How is that something to do?
PvP is beyond bad. The balance between the life pool and the dmg output are so off. DD Ele can counter anything when well played. Just putting in a league system won't help.
Sure, it got no monthly fee. Instead you pay for a $50 expansion with little to no content.
>in today's meta
That was last year you dumbass. DD Ele literally loses to a glass cannon daredevil dp thief right now. You can shit on the pve aspect of gw2 all you want but the pvp is very balanced. If you think that this one build can beat everything and that pvp is a joke, go log on and try dueling some people in the 1v1 servers or just queue up in ranked matches. Stronger players always beat weaker players. The game's pvp is as balanced as you're going to get.
The PvP is the worst its ever been.
They considered HoT's launch a balance patch and refuse to do anything about their broken meta, and all their 'esport' players are exploiting their broken ranked system and getting themselves banned over it
A4S was the only gear check, and only world 1st/2nd tier progression groups were getting that deep into the fight that early. That third (?) mortal revolution was the gear check. otherwise, your group needs to be better at the game.
>No new mechanics
A1 and A2 are guilty of this, for sure.
But A3 and A4, did you even make it that far? lol
PVE consists of grinding for a legendary weapon that adds nothing but fancy little foot trails to your walking animation, no stat increase at all
PVP consists of doing nothing but queuing for structured.
shit game with no end game content. Once I farmed full ascended I litearlly had nothing to do.
>DD Ele can counter anything when well played
That just invalidated every one of your points. You clearly haven't played the game in a long time.
Yeah I've played the game for a while. It's far from perfect, probably 7/10 at best, but that doesn't mean I'm blinded from all of it's flaws. All I'm doing is correcting someone from trying to direct a guy looking for an MMO away from one that he may actually end up enjoying.
You can boil down any MMOs PvE to one or two idiotic bullshit sentences. Not even worth replying to.
>Stronger players always beat weaker players
That's completely missing the point. I said a well played DD Ele can counter everything. And this was still the case when I quite two months ago.
And what >>323156024 said.
The balance patches are horrible. I still remember that one "balance" patch and everything they balanced about engineer is fixing bugs.
They had an armor set and a bunch of glider skins on day one in the gem store. They didn't even wait. The new "package" deals for $20 and not offering the items in question separately is also unacceptable. Lets not forget their abandonment of other parts of the game in favor of really trying to push the eSports bullshit, which utterly failed when a tournament team quit mid game because of the bullshit unbalanced meta that ANet created.
GW2 is going down faster than a cheap whore.
I used to like gw2 as a single player game.
Playing through living worlds actually made me feel physically sick, that someone could have that low quality of writing and get paid AAA wages.
How much are you being paid to write this bullshit? None of it is even true. Jesus, this post has paid shill written all over it. Even the wording sentence structures are the same thats used in typical PR posts. Get out.
PvP meta is pretty shit but it's still more active which was my point. There's going to be a major rebalance next month regardless.
DD ele can't counter anything so anything you say about pvp is worthless. You don't know what you're talking about.
GW2 is doing extremely well, man. I don't even know why I'm defending this game at this point but just saying it's dying doesn't mean it's actually dying.
Is this one any good to get into right now? Been watching this dude playing it for a while and its sort of peaking my interests.
Anet is horrible with balance
They either dont touch something for months, and I mean MONTHS. They wouldnt touch DD ele for years.
And when they do? They ruin the class as a whole, look at thief. It's now useless at everything.
Also, players =/= good game
League has lots of players
>SHILL POST LOL
Wow you sure showed me, good job countering any of my points you fucking retard.
Do you honestly think anybody would be shilling for gw2 of all games on this board? I just like the game and when people spew a bunch of untrue shit about it I'm gonna reply to it since I have nothing better to do at 8 am.
Even I bought HoT.
It was nice to have new content, $50 isnt a lot to me.
The fact I could roll Dragonhunter in pvp and one shot everything with those traps is a testiment to how bad the pvp is
The crafting/gathering classes in FFXIV can be lucrative, but you have to pretty much get every one to 50 before you start raking in the big gil, and choose your specialist crafting classes carefully. You can sell you services melding materia or crafting items 1 on 1 if they give you the materials.
It's definitely possible though, lots of people go that route and find it pretty enjoyable.
The only caveat is that I believe in order to progress through the story and "unlock" more areas, you need to get at least 1 combat class "DoW/DoM" to level 50 pre-expansion, 60 post-expansion.
>GW2 is doing extremely well, man.
Yeah, no. It isn't. I've seen the NCSoft quarterly reports. While GW2 hasn't fallen into the red, and is still making a profit, its earnings are the lowest its ever been.
GW2 can be a good game to scratch that mmo itch. Buy once and play when you want. No monthly fee to make you feel like you have to come back. Fractals are decent end game content and there are a lot of collections for completionists like me.
There's that word again. How about you form your own opinions instead of repeating every buzzword you hear on /v/ like a mindless drone.
Dragonhunter is pretty weak in pvp, friend.
Thats Anya you twit get your anime girls right.
Good job, you succeeded at saying the thing that people who know nothing eve online say about eve online to make it seem like they know about eve online
A DD ele can not counter everything.
There's nothing a dd can do against a dragonhunter in an on point fight unless the dragonhunter splurgs out and lets you sit on top of him.
A condi reaper will kill a dd in less than a minute unless you run diamond skin. A dd using diamond skin has such negligible damage to a point where even a reaper can disengage.
A DD may survive against a power scrapper but the scrapper will dominate the fight entirely,
DD eles lose to shadow arts thieves and daredevils.
A condi mallyx Revenant also completely wrecks a dd.
A condi mesmer will beat a dd.
If you're talking about a build that counters everything you should be looking into the classes that can disengage well. Fleeing a fight is better than dying from a 1v1.
Perplexity condi mesmers are still probably the strongest 1v1er around right now. They can't do anything against diamond skin but they can disengage. They may lose to a shadow arts thief in a prolonged fight.
A shadow arts thief or even a daredevil dp can disengage from any 1v1 encounter which allows them to pop back into the 1v1 whenever they feel like it. In a straight up fight they are weak but in a wvw scenario their ability to engage and disengage on will gives them a chance against any class in 1v1.
Same idea with a power scrapper who can stealth disengage with gyro.
It's a fun game for casual gaming like a 3 or 4 hours a week, I have to agree.
The problem is it has nothing to offer for endcontent. Fractals can be pretty fun, but all you is farm gold.
I already told you my opinion. You disregarded everything and said I clearly haven't played the game long enough. So yeah, you sound like a shill to me.
So she's an inferior version of saika?
>Is there any mmo worth playing
TERA has fun and unique combat though if you haven't tried it already. Kept me busy for a year or two until all of the glaring flaws and mismanagement by the developers started to rise up to the surface and just bug the shit out of me every time i logged in. You should know beforehand that the game is in a significantly worse spot than it was 3 years ago and PvP is almost an unplayable clusterfuck now with the addition of new classes and such, but the combat can still be extremely satisfying. The game is not worth playing in the long run but i think everyone should at least try it out because it is unique.
Alternatively, EVE Online is still going strong and is by far the best Sandbox MMO of all time. Ignore anyone that says it's a spreadsheet simulator, there's more to the game than numbers and if you find your way into a good and active corp you can have loads of fun and experiences that no other MMO on the market will bring you. EVE is probably the only MMO i would say is worth playing in 2016 but only if you are fully dedicated to it and
are very social or have several friends that also play it because you will not have any fun playing EVE alone.Rooks & Kings have a few videos up on youtube that can sort of give you an idea exactly how EVE online is at it's best, though keep in mind that they're not the norm and half of the players of EVE will never do shit that is as cool as the stuff they've done.
You best be jestin here m80, you don't talk shit about the cute russian anime and expect to get away with it.
I think a big thing about MMOs is that its time to stop looking at them as nothing but huge time sinks intended to be played for months on end, even years.
We all know that the only reason we ever played games like SWG and WoW for so long back then was not only were we young and easily swayed, but chances are most of us had 'friends' we would play for most of the time.
I have a group of friends, we hop from game to game for launch titles and expansions, we rarely stick around for one for over 6 months.
>not liking girls
I would call you a homosexual gaylord but I think it would become lost to you at this point in time anon-kun.
I like Elsword, pve is moronic and you won't need the cash shop for it.
pvp is really fun but unbalanced as fuck and basically pay to partecipate. though you can have decent fun on lower ranks without bothering with the cash shop.
The problem is that the time sinks are just not fun.
Whenever a new MMO comes out all there is to do is questing until max level. But questing isn't fun anymore.
Everyone who played an RPG before will get bored.
That's the reason Blizzard sells level tokens now. They know if a new person has to level through 100 levels just to get to the fun part he'll quit.
New MMOs have to have some kind of goal why you should level to max level or should make leveling fun, instead of a boring grind.
I appreciate it, saved my time
Let's play Blade and Soul anon, also ignore the /vg/ legion.
>game is focused on pvp
Korean world champion got his ass handed to him by NA players for playing with 60ms
he plays with 4ms in Korea
FFXIV for p2p, Phantasy star online 2 for f2p if you dont mind needing an english patch. BnS is comming out for NA soon so theres that
it has cute foxboys
Not going to get into a shit taste flinging competition on /v/ this morning. WoW PvP is certainly not bad, but to make the claim that it's the best is giving it a bit too much credit.
Meme spouting avatarfaggin leddinator who just found out about NFA a day before the betas, creates the legion and turns it and the generals into a hugbox filled with people from pic related. They even keep leddit's strewpolls on the OP
>go read about the character
>"oh just another cute anime girl"
>it's a dude
Literally jumped when I read "male".
>f2p can't be good by default
What is Tera?
Its good if you like spaceship simulators and a lot of downtime, and like doing somewhat menial things like docking your spaceship. Doing those things really adds to the immersion though since if you fail at docking your ship you will die.
Its also incredibly grindy after a certain point (way before you reach end game, actually), and there isn't all that much to do. Heres a list of upvoted "helpful" reviews. Notice that they're all negative.
>Elsword #15 on Korean popularity chart
>BnS is #19
Knowing Elsword is a piece of shit really tells you how good BnS is that more people would rather play elsword.
They're still both decent timekillers that could be spent doing worse.
>tease audience with sandbox elements.
>people are reeled in cause they are doing something new.
>remove most sandbox elements and restrict low level pvp because they want a bigger audience for more $$$
>get confused why everyone hates your game
Though it killed the KR version, the western version seems like they're open to ideas:
But then again, Trion pulled similar shit with Archeage and we ended up with an inferior product.
Slow, boring and uninteresting story. (Sorry fans, not just my cup of tea.)
>World of warcraft
Legion is not out yet. Warlords of orclords was shit.
Rift events were nice but became old fast. Decen't wow copy.
>Guild wars 2
After hitting 80 with warrior, i never played the game again. Haven't offered anything new since launch.
Don't even fucking start with this shit.
>Everquest (the old ones.)
Too late to go play them. most features just would annoy me.
>Lord of the rings online.
Tested it for two days and got bored super fast.
Im all honesty, im waiting WoW: Legion. Even if it's not perfect, i probably will play it till Everquest next "the decate project" comes out. Might test Black desert as well blade & soul. But im not holding my breath with any MMO currently nor im super excited.
>Everquest next "the decate project"
It's fucking f2p
Why would you think it will be good?
The only f2p mmo that doesn't sucked was dragon's dogma online, and mostly because it was hub based like guild wars and not real mmo
>Even if it's not perfect
Its odd, on one hand you are judgemental of the rest, on the other you somehow think "not perfect" is anything close to the utter liquid shit that legion is certain to be.
You can say "not perfect" about a 99% perfect game, and a literal piece of shit too.
It either means nothing, or means you think its good but not perfect. And the latter definitely doesn't apply to WoW, considering every expansion is worse than the last, includes less content and just keeps trying to pull people back in for the
>its like that time WoW was still good, you you know like classic - NO, actually like TBC!!! - WAIT NO, this time its really like TBC you know, illidan and green flames!
Diablo 3, the Real Money Auction House, and gutting the game of its features prior to launch, and killing off Decard Cain because he didn't like the character. The original developer for D3 quit part way through development. He was the replacement that fucked it all up. He screwed up so badly that Blizzard had to force him to resign.
>once or twice a year get the urge to go back to WoW
>know I'll hate it and stop playing after a week
I weep for the WoW that was.
I loved that game when it first came out. Making trade runs with guildies on our trade ship. It was the most fun I've had since burning crusade days. But yeah it didn't last long.
Fuck, even age of conan
They all were normal and good, it's just wow was better and had more people
But then they decided to go f2p and ruined everything
Oh and there still ARR, which still good
The only shit tier mmo I knew were ff11(inferior clone of first everquest) and TESo
Of course there were more, like pirates of caribbean online, but I never even tried it
>FFXIV is not THAT bad.
Isn't it pretty dead though?
What happened to the ToS hype anyways?
What is it with russian anime girls and having silver/white hair
Since the anime artstyle doesn't allow to draw realistic racial traits, white people are all blonde to differentiate them from black haired japs. So pale people even by white people standards are drawn with white hair.
Almost every /v/ guild in any MMO I've ever joined has typically turned into a huge den of faggotry, ironic or otherwise. Join a /vg/ guild and you'll be fine.
I think Balmung is the ERPing faggot server on FFXIV. Go take imaginary e-cock to your hearts content, you fucking weirdo.
Tree of Savior kind of turned out to be shit. They ruined everything good about Ragnarok by making it a linear questing experience. You're in each area maybe half an hour and then you move on, barely any grinding required up to like level 100. It's really dumb and there's no freedom to do anything whatsoever.
Lately I've been playing Redmoon Online for a bit of nostalgia it's like a really old isometric MMO where you walk around and punch shit you know the usual. There's some private server up that has like no one on it so I've just been playing with my two other friends but it'd be fun if more people showed up!
New race is usable without having to progress through the old content. But It isn't like alt characters are necessary or beneficial in XIV. Basically just an incentive to buy a race change elixir.
The MMO genre is dead, and it will stay dead until VR becomes more affordable.
I would play FFXIV myself since I heard so many good things about it, but in my opinion the artstyle is too flat, boring and obnoxious. Also that lala race that looks like toddler dolls is just too weird.
Not that guy but it would be pretty damn interesting to actually have a reason to play an mmo in first person mode.
Also I really like exploration in mmos so VR could make that much better depending on the vistas they create.
>implying the gameplay would stay exactly the same
Use your imagination, senpaitachi. What you're thinking of are standard RPGs with grinding, raids, UI bloat, etc. The resurrection of "massive multiplayer online" games won't be the same 3rd person RPGs you're used to.
It'll probably be a lot like
As someone who also really enjoyed Aion until last year, it's pretty much flooded by BRs.
It's still a good dame tho, but if you want the best stuff/stats you need to use your irl money so it's kind of P2W, especially for the PVP.
PSO2 even if the weapon progression is linear as fuck now
What game has the best character creation?
I tend to have more fun making the characters then actually playing them
City of Heroes/Villains will never come back
What's the point when the 13 stars outclasses them like crazy?
I mean, if it was just a little 12 stars would still be very useful, but Ares/Austere/Orbit weapons are just overpowered compared to them.
You can make cute anime boys in PSO2 too
I want to commit high treason and stick my american cock in russian pussy.
the only thing BnS has over PSO2's shotas is they have those little feetpaw things
Never know when pso2 will get mouse ear parts
If only mabinogi didnt look like absolute ass and all the free character creator parts look stupid as fuck
>Expected an Anya thread
>Got actual games discussion
I'm disappointed and impressed at the same time
Any news about everquest next?
Sandbox with community made content sounds promising
Why would you expect an Anya thread? She isn't popular enough for this
Black Desert waifu creator has already bombed in Korea?
Has there even been any successful MMO in Korea lately? Aion was a flash in the pan, Tera was a flash in the pan, Archeage was a flash in the pan, and now BDO is a flash in the pan? Maybe B&S wasn't but it's like 10 years old or something so I'm sure it's long ded in Korea even if it was popular in its heyday.
The Koreans have shitty taste to be fair. I'm not defending any of those games, but hypothetically speaking, just because Koreans hate something doesn't mean it's bad. Also, I don't care if the game is grindy and has no endgame, waifu creator is wonderful.
>Just being cute won't make you popular anymore
>It's all about memes
I don't know, I sunk a decent amount of hours in the KR version without paying anything, and enjoyed the combat system a lot.
I had the most fun with swtor. I'm still sad that i had to stop playing because i was failing university and when i quit playing i failed anyway so i quit the only good thing in my life for nothing.
No, it's absolute garbage. It's new maplestory (PQs neverever, superflashymove soawesome (tm), everyone has a movement ability, stand on one side of the field with your "kill everything" button pressed to gain a level, click teleport in the upper right when you've leveled enough to be teleported to the next grind zone instantly, shittiest map layout known to man, nobody every parties, etc.) The only difference with normal maple is that you can't trade and the cash shop is mostly cosmetics.
>Archeage was a flash in the pan
Damn shame, too. If they had controlled the bot and hacker problems it might still be alive.
Dunno, it seems cool but I'm only like level 3 or 4. I've got that age old problem where my friends all show up at different times, and I rolled Rogue like a retard so I can't even work towards reincarnation at 20 or whatever it is.
