Could you imagine an anti-virus/malware program that could actually double as a PC game?
>scan computer for viruses/malware
>scanner puts them in quarantine
>open a game mode and battle it until it gets deleted
>anti-virus actually connects to a virus/malware database to determine the virus's known aliases and threat level
>the higher the level, the more difficult it is to defeat it
I'd play it
>Those viruses that somehow come back and force themselves to boot on startup are the way-too-common random encounters
Wait a minute now, we're missing an important question here: do we all get one of these?
There was already a game kinda like this. Didn't actually keep your computer safe, but simulated you going into a computer world and destroying corrupted files.
My parents got mad at me for playing it because they thought it was to blame for the problems our computer was having. Good times.
Just like that guy whose mom blamed his games for putting viruses on the computer but it was actually his sister downloading songs from limewire
and then she stole his laptop and gave it to his sister
I like that idea.
>Scanner scans for viruses
>Picks some up
>Game adds the viruses as enemies
>Killing the enemies deletes the infected files
>Doing the virus scan side-game also rewards you with money and/or EXP in the main game
Holy fuck or even better
>pokemon virus game
>game scans quarantine zone for viruses
>puts them into the game world with stats based off of its coding or type of virus
>catching it deletes the files but let's you use it to battle other viruses
No this was an actual copy/pasta some submitted years ago
It's fascinating the way that distro just hops right over the memory leak like that. Such majestic creatures, linuxes.
there used to be something like that i think the name of the virus was "casino"
this screen would show up and the game begins
See, thing is, that's a virus that keeps your data hostage until you can win at slots
What OP is referring to is more like Megaman Battle Network, except the viruses you delete are real viruses on your computer.
>Every type of virus found spawns a different kind of enemy
>Defeated viruses drop battlechips to use in future fights
>More powerful viruses beget harder enemies and more powerful battlechips
You end up browsing around the scummiest, most virus-laden parts of the web (ala UNDERNET) in order to farm up the most powerful chips
>Final boss is
Too bad /rs/ isn't here anymore, we could have had a gold mine of viruses to find
Some are you are probably thinking "what's to stop people from making their own OP viruses to cheat in multiplayer modes?". The answer is online virus databases. You can only use viruses that have been registered to certain sites like symantec. You could try to release your own virus into the wild and hope it's registered but you'll probably go to jail.
