Now that the
fallouthas settled, can we agree that this is the best game in the series in terms of gameplay?
There is really no reason not to. Power cores magically appear in your inventory, and your max carry weight triples, so farming mats for building becomes braindead easy. It pretty much removes item management.
OP is right, it's the best for gameplay. It's absolutely abysmal in every other way though.
It pisses me off at the one time Beth tries to make sense it is actually really annoying.
>oh you want to use your pip boy? Well guess what it's invisible or partially useless due to you being invisible.
>Buuut the flashlight still works... just because it's there to help!!!
It's not NV launch broken, but once you compare patched versions, the only thing it's got is power armor and gunplay. The actual questing and level design etc etc is garbage, which contrary to your beliefs, is still part of the game play. Yes that includes your shitty loot system and legendary pipe pistols dropping off of death claws.
Naturally it'll have the best gameplay if the sex mods surpass Skyrims.
world exploration was the best part, they actually made a city that actually feels like a city and not a maze of metros/airlocks. glowing sea was great too.
gunplay was good, not great, but much better than NV or 3
settlement building gets old when you realize they settlers do fucking nothing, the traps are useless, defenses are useless unless you are actually there, the whole thing is just real half-assed and some of the settlement spots are poorly designed. like why is there an unenterable building smack dab in the middle of jamaica plain????
storyline was shit which i expect from bethesda, only the uss consitution quest was memorable, places like lexington or salem couldve had better quests that blended history with fallout lore but instead we just got some terminals.
most companions were all incredibly well done. they even made the fuckin lamplight kid likable!
its overall an 8/10 game, mods will extend its longevity
>Companions are all interesting and likable (except one)
>They're completely useless in combat
>build 255 defense base
>gets wrecked by a bloatfly raid because you didnt fast travel there in time
>glowing sea was great too
the glowing sea was disappointing as fuck
it didn't feel threatening at all, there was barely even any radiation, and the only enemies I encountered the entire time were a pack of ghouls and one deathclaw
How do you think the NCR and House would respond to the synth issue?
I'd ask about the Legion as well but we all know they would just immediately destroy anything new or different.
I just finished it and I'm a no mutants allowed old man. I skipped fo3 and new Vegas (NV because it crashed a lot) so fo4 was my first fo in ages. Loved and had fun with all the pointless basebuilding and farming. Side quests were not too terrible. But hated the main story after the pivotal twist. Everything fwent to shit. I just to eradicate a bunch of stupid enemies.. Ugh fuck. Finished it today and mad as hell. Fucked it up Bethesda..like you did years before. Still.. Thanks for the 70 hours of bating me.
Did you just walk straight through and not look around at all? I can't go 5 feet in that place without running into a god damn deathskull radscorpion that will kill me if it poisons me.
She didn't show up at the house after I talk to the cult leader. Later on Jack attacked me in the asylum which may have been triggered with having Cait as a companion and standing too close to the double door in the middle as Jack was finding his way in. Had to find out how to console my way out of it.
>legendary pipe pistols dropping off of death claws
Most of my drops are actually melee weapons or armour pieces.
I tend to get nice combat rifles from Super Mutants though, which suits me fine considering I maxed out Rifleman.
Tactics was pretty good, but let's not pretend they're comparable. Completely different genres, and it's okay if you prefer that over nu-fallout's FPS/RPG hybrid style.
We're talking about /g/, not a bunch of the Brotherhood of /m/.
That's pretty dumb then from a consistency stand point, but hey given how you get no creative freedom with your character background I guess it's alright to have form fitting suits that just happen to fit you like spandex.
The Brotherhood hoards technology.
The Institute creates their own tech.
The Institute might be interested in the power from the dam but they'd have little interest in his Securatron army or his life extending tech, they've already passed him in both departments after all.
Not to mention that house went to CIT when he was young. Hell, they might consider him to be an honorary member.
House and the Institute both have the exact same reason for going to war with the Brotherhood, because the Brotherhood can't suffer anyone with shiner toys then them.
That still doesn't change the fact that gear dropping off of Deathclaws are stupid, which was the point. But no one cares about any semblance of realism these days otherwise why would Destiny be a success?
>I skipped fo3 and new Vegas (NV because it crashed a lot)
Get the unofficial patch for NV and you should almost never crash. It was bad at launch, but it is better now.
You could also do the Tales of Two Wastelands mod and play both Fallout 3 and New Vegas together.
you asked does it have the best gameplay in the series. dont move the goal posts. Tactics has better gameplay unless you're a plebian that prefers sneak attack OHK'ing everything with a hunting rifle to thoughtful turn based combat.
>Multiple references to the events of Fallout 3
>No references to NV at all
Bethesda really were assblasted about being so ridiculously outdone, weren't they?
Fallout had Star Trek and Monty Python references before Bethesda.
People give it a pass because they were "non canon" random encounters.
If it bothers you that much just pretend legendary enemies are the same.
Easily the best gameplay in the series. Once the mods come out it will easily be the best game in the series period
...but of course /v/ will stay edgy and pretend it isn't even though mods can fix everything and tailor the game to each individual. The one thing mods could never fix being shit combat which happens to be the one thing Bethesda fixed.
paladin danse kill all these faggots that say they hate the best game of 2015
What references were there to 3 in NV? Only one I can think of is a mention of the Brotherhood civil war by Veronica and ones from ED-E.
If anything it would be strange if there were any references from NV in 3, not that much time has passed and it's on the other side of the country.
You're fucking retarded, none of that is ever going to happen and it's a bit of a stretch compared to a "rare" enemy in a fucking RPG dropping loot.
Fucking hell, /v/.
There are references to NV though, the fuck are you on about?
absolutely. even in terms of gameplay and content, it appears when making 4 that they took a look at everything NV improved over 3, and decided that rather than compete on those points, theyd remove 99% of them. like for example: meaningful dialogues and choices, proper speech checks, being an RPG, companion wheel, different ammo types, most of the weapons, hardcore mode...
to be fair they did improve what was left, which was just gun play, basically
Played for about 36 hours, level 38 or so, on survival.
Stopped playing for almost a month, came back to it yesterday, played for 5 minutes, realized I was still fighting the same boring enemies by the dozens, uninstalled.
Gameplay and dungeons make a very good first impression, then you realize its shallow as fuck and has 0 replayability.
>Just reached level 30
>Ignored Brotherhood of Steel quests after the first one since I have to take an oath to access the other ones.
>Without taking the oath there's no more quests Danse can give you
I'm not taking an oath to the BoS those guys are assholes, am I missing out a lot?
Especially since their ship showed up
Deathclaws dropping pipe pistols never happened before FO4 either. If you went back in time to when FO2 was released and told them that was going to be the case everyone would be as skeptical as you are now.
And also >>323110986 pretty much proves it's possible. As long as they wanna make a joke about it, it's semi-canon because Bethesda doesn't respect shit.
And you are a dudebro you faggot, your lack of standards just for some shitty gunplay proves this.
combat is better but thats not saying much considering all you need is t45f to slug it on surivival, game is still shit and AI is bad and its nothing more than 6/10
I get about as much pleasure spamming Cross in NV as I do as playing melee in 4 too so they dropped the fucking ball there. Melee is garbage, fists are laughable and the whole game is a downgrade from NV
I did a Brotherhood/Power Armor playthrough on my first run. It trivializes everything.
Around spring or summer, after 1 or 2 DLC's and the GECK modding kit - I'll make another run and do a light armor character.
Play NV instead.
Nah. It's a pretty generic shooter with a shit story. The best will always be Fallout 2 until somebody can capture the magic again. Fallout 4 doesn't even do shooting very well... VATS as a system is to cover up the flaws in its shooting. And yes I did play it and beat it. It was fun as a shooter but the story was !!!FUCKING SHIT!!! and I hated all the characters, dialogue, and writing. The best parts were reading the computer terminals. Some of them were quite well written and it surprised me.
I'm autistic because I'm telling you it's okay for you to prefer a different type of game?
Have a good day, faggot.
I'm not done with my setup yet, but I'd hardly call it "hot poo". In any case, 4 utilizes DX11 rendering and is marginally better-looking for it, but that doesn't make it a better game.
I don't know anon, 10 minutes of linear corridor shooting and an awful boss fight who you're killing for political reasons involving politics that have nothing to do with you and don't really impact your life in any way at the end with no post-game was pretty much a shit sandwich.
It looks better because the artistic direction is on-point.
Graphics don't really have anything to do with it, they're a marginal upgrade at best. Only worthwhile thing I saw out of them was godrays.
>Lose a few friends for spoiling Fallout 4 as a joke (in retrospect, not sure why I did that but other people found it funny anyway)
>Decide to read entire synopsis to see why they're so asspained
>mfw it's fucking garbage
I hope they enjoy a knockoff to various shitty movies when they actually finish it.
>who you're killing for political reasons involving politics that have nothing to do with you and don't really impact your life in any way
How DOESN'T any of it affect you? New Vegas is, presumably, one of the last bastions of civilization and the outcome of the game determines where the remnants of humanity go from there. Last I checked, the Courier was human.
I agree with you. I still don't see why I wouldn't be able to even look at New Vegas, and older games in general, because of it. It's vidya, not milk. I still have fun playing Shogo: MAD, Deus Ex and Planescape: Torment.
List every ending in fonv that didn't end with a shitty 10 minute corridor shooter and an awful boss fight at that stupid dam for petty political reasons.
No? They're all the same? Different types of units at best?
The faction "choice" in fo4 was more coherent than that shit, every faction in fonv was the same exact shit with the same exact quests plus one extra on the side.
it seems more like they listened to the complaints about FO3 and tried to overcompensate
>the BoS shouldnt be good guys!
>they make them into nazis instead
>the game forces you to be the good guy!
>make it so all the factions are evil or incompetent
>you need to go through the metros to reach anywhere!
>the metros go nowhere instead
>Hoover Dam, the most important hydro-electric dam in the United States
NV is a good game, too. Deus Ex and PS:T are better, Shogo is a tier of quality on its own. Don't be a turd.
Why do you keep throwing in the term "political"? Is that supposed to convince me the outcome is less dire?
>valuable in a world where nuclear electricity is easily accessible, and where power usage is rock bottom, in a world already ravaged by ecological destruction
Literally fucking nothing anon.
your fucking choices did matter you dense motherfucker, you can have the boomers bomb the fuck out of the NCR or the Legion if you choosed to do so, the Enclave could drop down and whipe out the NCR or the Legion (Again, YOUR choice), you can choose to kill the Legate or talk him down.
See where im going you shit head?
>Is that supposed to convince me the outcome is less dire?
It isn't dire at all, everyone is new vegas is going to be fine regardless of who's in power, and everyone fighting for power is an asshole and dipshit anyway.
It's pretty much the video game equivalent of a trip to the voting booth.
this isnt even as dumb as a design choice as people make it out to be
consider that on your second and third play through, talking to generic shit radiant quest givers like that you're basically just mashing through the conversation and its annoying if you misclick and get -90 dicksuckery points with piper
add a scoped weapon to your favorites quickbar (it has to be an actual short/medium/long scope, reflex sights etc. don't work) and just equip it and zoom, shit bug but simple fix
>you can have the boomers bomb the fuck out of the NCR or the Legion if you choosed to do so
Yeah 2 hours worth of fetch quests and "Go clear out this base" for damaging 7 guys by half health, people I one-hit anyway.
Consequences my ass.
>you can choose to kill the Legate or talk him down.
Yeah on that note the "talk him down" options were fucking stupid, they made zero sense. They spent the entire game building this guy up as the most loyal commander in ceasar's legion, and he surrenders because while fighting for the best supply point for a thousand miles in any direction my argument that they couldn't hold a supply point due to logistics made sense to him, for some reason.
I have never seen a more hamfisted dialog option.
>everyone is new vegas is going to be fine regardless of who's in power
Did you even play the game? And each faction having an asshole and dipshit at their head is kind of the whole point, especially considering what you have to do if you want the independent ending. Again, what happens in New Vegas has repercussions for humanity as a whole, I don't see how none of it is important.
>Did you even play the game? And each faction having an asshole and dipshit at their head is kind of the whole point, especially considering what you have to do if you want the independent ending. Again, what happens in New Vegas has repercussions for humanity as a whole, I don't see how none of it is important.
Yeah I still don't see how this isn't exactly like a trip to the voting booth.
Also it's minor political differences at best, one is a slightly more capitalist system while the other is..something retarded, it's not really explained rationally during the game.
What the fuck are you talking about?
Even if they killed all of them that saved me maybe 10 seconds, considering how ungodly broken you get by the end of the game.
2 hours of fetch quests for 10 seconds worth of kills.
>a world where nuclear electricity is easily accessible
Where? New Vegas goes out of its way to make power one of the concerns of the NCR. House is making bank selling Hoover Dam's power to the NCR. Hoover Dam at full capacity could single handedly power all of Vegas and the NCR. Hoover Dam is whats powering the strip in-game. Fusion cells are old world tech and not 'readily available'.
>Power usage is rock bottom
Clearly it is not if the NCR's main reason for being in the Mojave is getting the dam running.
Thats not even mentioning the millions of gallons of fresh water in lake mead (that is stated in-game to be clean).
>like a trip to the voting booth
Motherfucker, none of what happens at the Dam would be possible without the direct intervention of the Courier. That's the difference. You hold the cards, you determine the endgame.
I don't know, it's in the lore in fo1 and 2, something new vegas doesn't actually give a shit about.
>Clearly it is not if the NCR's main reason for being in the Mojave is getting the dam running.
Literally no reason for that shit to power a couple pumps and lightbulbs.
Also I'm not sure how the fuck electrical infrastructure exists after 200 years all the way to the west coast, but it sounds like some bullshit lorerape to me.
>Thats not even mentioning the millions of gallons of fresh water in lake mead (that is stated in-game to be clean).
And yet jam packed with mirelurks for some reason
>You hold the cards, you determine the endgame.
Oh, so you're anakin skywalker.
The lone nobody from some desert shithole nowhere who single-handedly decided the fate of a war of inconceivable scale that had nothing to do with him.
>I don't know, it's in the lore in fo1 and 2, something new vegas doesn't actually give a shit about.
The same Fo1/2 that doesn't have a single city with as much electricity in usage as NV?
I know, it's pretty much the same generic pseudo-rpg bullshit that dominates the market, and has fanboys who don't know shit about rpgs raving.
It's not, they're pretty much the same game
This game is insanely fucking boring... It was just painfully boring. Fuck, 30 hours of hoping something interesting would happen then dropped, can't bring myself to play it again. PAINFULLY boring.
In a way you are kinda like Anakin, House is pretty much notsoevil Palps. But unlike Anakin and FO4 you get to choose instead of being manipulated.
But freedom probably doesn't mean much to you.
>animals not stashing legendary weapons in their bellies.
Yeah that makes no sense but dragons shitting armor and dogs having caps on them is sensible as fuck.
It's an rpg retard, enemies drop loot, special enemies drop special loot.
>but dragons shitting armor
I never claimed Skyrim was better at this why are you bringing it up are you trying move the goal post? You're doing a very bad job at it.
> dogs having caps on them
Not a single dog in NV has caps on them sorry.
>It's an rpg retard, enemies drop loot, special enemies drop special loot.
Only if your RPG has the standards of SNES era. Immersion is a goal for role playing, and improvements to traditions are allowed to be made.
Cavemen used to eat meat raw before they invented the use of cooking with fire. You gonna suddenly never cook again and keep eating everything raw and claim that's how it works?
Well, then again maybe you already do that. Would explain your brain damage.
Again, where are you getting the idea that none of this has anything to do with the MC? The MC who, by the way, is a courier. A courier that was vital in the establishment of the trade route along the I-15, which spawned a prominent settlement in the Divide that he later oopsed from existence. A courier in a setting like Fallout is already an important role, what the MC accomplished as a courier was an impressive feat that aided both the NCR and the Mojave. He wasn't exactly a nobody.
>I-I-It's just because it's a radiant quest
All quests are like this.
He could easily be talking about Preston or Strong.
As others have pointed out, Preston gives you a new radiant quest every time you talk to him, and often gives you the same one twice.
Plus supposedly there's a glitch where he calls you "babe" even if you don't romance him.
Strong is kinda shit I think because he is very much a typical supermutant, i.e. a dumb asshole who only approves of rape and pillage. This could be fun and sometimes is, but it gets frustrating when he disapproves every time you pick a lock, for example.
When I met Virgil in the main quest it made me miss Fawkes from FO3.
>Gameplay and dungeons make a very good first impression, then you realize its shallow as fuck and has 0 replayability.
So every Bethesda game, then.
Broad as a lake, shallow as a puddle.
IMO the Brotherhood are the best faction in terms of how fun the quests are and how much free shit you get.
they give you a jetpack if you beat the game with them
terrible balance, lazy and messy perk system, bullet sponges, almost all random loot (and they aren't even distributed well, especially pipe pistol even in the fucking institute), lack of weapon variety, vast majority of locations only exist as place to be killed/fetched, substandard AI that doesn't even have flanking maneuver and prefer to plink at you from way out of range with their short range weapon. Terrible and lazy as hell quests. Shallow and inconsistent theme-park world design. etc....
