>that game you love with dead online
What's her name /v/?
I'll never forget SMNC and I'll never forgive Uber for what they did to it.
Shadowbane. It hurts every day.
>Delay the NA release near indefinitely just before release
>Finally release it a few months later with absolutely no marketing
The best part is that if you imported it, you could just go to the options and change literally everything to english.
Darkfall. Dat full-loot, free aim pvp and boat raiding with bros
Damn didnt think I'd see a DF post here. Fucking legendary game. It was like a fucking Quake MMO legitimently the golden goose of MMORPGS that was fucking pissed away by a retarded fucking company.
Such a great game. Did you know theres some veteran players trying to reopen DFO?
https://riseofagon.com/check that shit AV has already confirmed licencing it all looks really hopeful
Dead Space 2. Sure, there wasn't much to it after looping through all of the maps multiple times, but I've had nothing but good times with that game online. It makes me wish that I spent more time on it while I had the chance.
>5 million players
>still, with all these people it feels empty
>you will never see the birth of a world so massive and populated with people that only want to take part in it
Spent over 1200 hours on RO (and mods) alone and several hundred on UT.
Nothing came close ever since.
It had so much fucking potential. SO MUCH. But Red 5 fired their CEO, got large Chinese investment firms involved, and changed the game from an MMOT/FPS game with no levels, only gear upgrades, into a MMO grindfest with levels and literal fucktons of lag.
It was supposed to be one of the best MMOs ever, but it's dead on the floor. Even with the "Restart Update" coming, I doubt it can survive.
It all started when they killed server hopping.
its a vanilla WoW private server with no bullshit cash shops, bought levels or DLC.
Its progression too so eventually nax and other stuff will be released like it was original warcraft. Its what wow was supposed to be fore they turned into mmo themepark with match making
It was so fun, and people ruined it for me...
Cant believe it died so fast.
Pretty much every multiplayer Source mod.
fair enough. My friend told me it took about 13 days of total play time just to hit 60.
But so far im having as much if not more fun than i had in WotLK, definitely better than cata or anything after that. kinda wish there were more people though. 2000 is good but i want it like it was in its hay day.
This shit was the tits, CS with magic and high tech.
>My friend told me it took about 13 days of total play time just to hit 60.
that's actually really impressive
also, if you see a guy named daveblades tell him he's a massive faggot
The actual problem is that people couldnt deal with the lag.
I myself never had that much lag in the game though.
Also the japanese version was also translated to english but not released outside of japan till months later so people who imported played the most of the multiplayer before it died for good.
It was a shitty cheap mmo, but it was my shitty cheap mmo. Too bad the admins were lazy fucks.
every town and outpost outside of the major ones has maybe one other person playing
full henchmen party is truly suffering
The TF2 I loved is dead. I'll never get it back.
It's a mod in Source that remakes old TF2 and makes it better.
You gotta tell some more people about Combo, though. Not many people know about it, so the servers aren't too big yet. But it's getting up there.
Do Combo, dude. It's Ultra cool.
>Megabeth being so OP that she literally scared half the playerbase away before being nerfed
Mortal Kombat X on PC. Especially if you are an Australian...
Killing Floor prior to space guns being added
Also those threads on early /vg/ were great, I long for the days when this board was more than shitposting and gookclick generals
C&C Renegade. Don't tell me about X, because that shit is fucking terribly programmed.
Halo 2. I won't get a xbone for a remake of one game that apparently has terrible matchmaking.
BF1942 for obvious reasons
Red Orchestra 1. RO2 launched so terribly you could argue it's online never stood a chance, even now that most of the problems are fixed (keyword being most).
CoD4. Last good game in the series because it wasn't crammed full of ridiculous shit you couldn't possibly hope to counter.
Journey. If you didn't play it by now, you'll never get to experience the reason why it was so great.
My shit back in the day was Team Fortress Classic, though people are so autistic I'm not even necessarily sure the online is dead. Anyone know?
>you will never play Endless Online for the first time again
Savage: Battle for Newerth
not like anyone else here ever played it
>THAT PATCH happened
>Everyone jumped ship
>Lost its magic entirely
I wonder if anyone's even still playing it.
If I remember correctly, a couple people on /v/ hypothesized that the devs were redditors that, at the time, were still salty over the Shazbowl and, as a result, implemented all of those shitty patches in a fit of anger.
They got some devs over at HiRez working on it now, trying to bring it back... doesn't look like it's happening though. I feel your pain, brother.
>had vyvanse script
>get AR release day in NA
>demolish everything as Sasha
>never pick anyone other than Sash and just wreck people
>experience one of the most fun multiplayer experiences ever
>copy sits on shelf as life passes by
>go back online
Local play and some patches would have saved it. It had potential to be the Power Stone of its generation. At least we still have the OST.
Her style has always been boyish. Wouldn't surprise me if Tom makes her trans at some point.
Meh, Kat will always be a regular girl in my eyes. Just rough around the edges.
Maybe cause I've watched her grow from a lil girl to what she is now I guess.
Was about to post this, though at least the online lasted a while and you can occasionally still get games
Here's hoping for SS 2 one day.
>basic lee 2D Runescape
>just turned 19 years old yesterday
>mismanaged into the ground
>full of bots
>so full of bots
>really really fucking full of bots
>the online count literally drops by 50% every time they push a game update until the bots are updated
>also full of HUEHUEHUEHUEHUEJAJAJAJAJAKKKKKK
Gmod, while it still has a fair bit of players
all they fucking do is RP and play that shitty TTT gamemode thats overdone at this point
To name a few:
>City of Heroes
A moment of silence for our dearly departed.
>play with xbox 360 players
to this day I still don't understand why this isn't implemented in other games if the technology is there. If people are worried about the whole controller vs kbm thing, GTA already figured it out with displaying your peripheral and making exclusive lobbies.
I didn't wanna buy a fucking memebox to play with friends. also Caboose from RvB tried to make a machinima based on this game.
>tfw hellgate global closed down like 2 days ago an nobody gave a shit
I have a vague understanding of this strip but aside from the sexy lesbian undertones whats going on here
is it supposed to be like this?
>moved files to new external 2 days ago
>see hellgate london moving over
>tell myself to play it soon
>There will never again be a wc3 tourney ever again.
Time rushes on by, innit?
>playing it for years
>released on steam
>friends get into it for a while
>they drop it after a month
All I have left is the sick ass soundtrack
The website is still up. It got picked up by one of those Korean MMO companies, in this case the one holding on to Grand Espada and Aika.
There was a greenlight not too long ago and iirc it would bring the game to steam. I think if this actually happened it might have been saved.
I miss Halo Customer Edition, sure there's a few servers running Bloodgulch filled with huehuehues but it's almost impossible to play with any of the custom maps, and now that things like autodownloaders for maps, medals, Open Sauce, admin tools etc are released the few remaining people in the community are shitposting Australians.
ace of spades
maybe reddit and 8shit are fine with the .75 public servers and steam version, but I'm sure as fuck not
I'd host if there was real internet here in nowheretown, but there isn't
>The Hidden closed
>Zombie Panic closed
>Zombie Master closed
>>323131240 here. All of these games just recently got the axe? What in the actual fuck is happening? All of my old favorite games are suddenly dead over night?
Jesus Christ please revive Hellgate. The combat system and the classes were so fucking dope. Hell, I even actually liked the lore. I swear to God I need gun Templar back in my life.
A while back I checked the halo maps website and it was down. I don't know how long ago this was but I think that's what killed it.
Like what this anon >>323131759
said though, I think this is where we'll have to go next
There's still Gameranger. I play WC3 maps all the time with my friends online. Kodo Tag, Life of a Peasant, Werewolf, Hero Line Wars, Wintermaul Wars, you name it.
The Stomping Land. Could have been something so fucking beautiful.
PRAISE BE UNTO THE FISH GOD!
I'm cautiously optimistic for Halo Online.
>even if they manage to completely crack it open for custom maps and tags there will probably be no one who will create anything for it, assuming it catches on with this shitty new generation of kids.
Are you kidding? There's a handful of kids who want their claim to fame. If they want to connect with "us older folk" as well as be "different" from the CoD audience, they'll flock to it. It's unfortunate, but it's where we'll get a lot of fresh blood. Even despite that, there's people who are literally just waiting for the basics to get cracked so a good handful of map makers can start - they don't want to get the brain juices flowing if they're not certain it'll matter. I'm sure once there's a breakthrough to making maps for certain, we'll see them flowing. Just gotta' stay confident!
>Just play a vanilla private server guys!
I've been playing WoW since launch, and nothing will ever capture the essence of that games magic or community during vanilla or bc, especially not some shit private server 10 years after the fact.
>Monday Night Combat
Anon, I didn't want this feel tonight.
Don't be dumb, the modding scene of today's games aren't that different with how it was back then and if anything it's more robust.
Don't count on the skimpy spartan mods though.
What hurts about that one is they were going to keep the servers up indefinitely and allow people to play it even with a Silver account along with a few others.
That idea only lasted a few weeks.
For me probably Chromehounds.
I decided to check the old halomaps forums and surprisingly there is some technically neat stuff going on there, so that does give me more hope for Halo Online. I wonder if they do get custom mapping, if they will be able to create a tool to convert CE BSPs, tags, etc to the new engine like they did for H2v.
>porting all those classic custom maps to an engine that's not 16 years old
Fuck yeah man. The original guild wars is an amazing game, I still play it from time to time. Miss when towns and outposts used to be loaded with people. That said, I can pretty easily blow through just about anywhere with just heroes, aside from places with party sizes over eight I guess.
But yeah. Had some good times playing that with bros back in the day.
This thing had a great online mode
The two that get me are:
>PSO in a official capacity (yes, I know there are private servers, but they are...eh)
>Burnout 3 on Xbox
Also Halo 2, but technically still around due to MCC. Shame the glitches fucked everything up. Wish they would port it to PC at the very least, along with Halo 1 and 3.
Red Faction Guerrilla
When the new steam version came out there were some but it quickly died off again
Still pretty easy to get a game for this. You just have to uninstall all the DLC, and suddenly there's lots of games available. I haven't encountered any hackers for the past six months or so either.
Lobbies with restrictions solves the issue of forcing console peasants to get shrekt, while also breathing some extra life into multiplayer for players that don't care either way.
There is no downside.
If Shadow run and chrome hounds were still available I'd be playing them and halo 3 to this day. But they fucked up
>friend gets super into Firefall before it even hit it's first beta
>always talks about how amazing it's gonna be
>i'm mostly apathetic, but humor him with conversation about it
>first beta comes out
>we both get invites and play together
>game is a bit bare at this point, but I'm liking the direction
>first beta ends and we're both optimistic
>fast forward several years
>game is still in beta
>doesn't even look like the same game anymore
>everything has changed
>friend is still primo pumped for it and drops $250 on early access shit
>game is released and it's fucking miserable
>friend desperately tries to get us to play with him, but the game is fucking nigh unplayable with it's crazy lag and terrible mechanics
>after a month of bugging us he plays solo
>hops back into our teamspeak server a week later talking mad shit on Firefall and how it's the worst game he's ever played
All things considered it's the best vanilla private server to date. It's got no stupid donations bullshit, almost 97% of the mechanics work properly. They've even fixed some of the bugs that were a problem back in vanilla like the loot bug or falling through the ground when blinking or charging.
That being said though. You're right. It just can't capture the same feeling it had in 2004-2008. Those years were fucking golden and I don't think I'll ever experience something like that in an MMO again. Maybe it's because I'm older or new MMOs just don't have that same magic, but I don't see myself dropping 4 years straight into another game ever again.
Lost Planet 1/2
ive been playing tribes 1 since 98, theres like 70 people online at peak times across all servers these days
This, i love this game so much.
I hope if not a PC port but a sequel that isn't garbage.
The fuck? What happened to Red Dead Redemption? They closed the servers? Fucking loved that game man. Not the PvP though, since it became broken once everyone found out Deadeye was overpowered. The zombie game mostly was a lot of fun.
To this day I still think it has the best persistent world out of any online game. Why the fuck has nobody thought of NPC bases that can be invaded by natural enemies at any time, and if left unchecked could contaminate the entire map? It was what I was hoping fucking Destiny would do.
Servers aren't shut down but it's pretty much only hackers fucking up everything.
Also, you could easily beat out dead eye shitters if you could shoot them in the head quick enough, PvP was the funnest shit in that game, even just rolling with 3-4 of my friends in a game fucking up everyone was.
>"Finally, we are in their capital. RAISE THE TOWN AND DESTROY THE CHURCH"
>Fucking undead having a better last stand than goody-two-shoes
>Leveling up and shooting huge balls of instant death
>Priests being the only real support power against OP as fuck mages with stoneskin and revive
Loved it until assassins abused the engine and started bunny hop bombing everyone for instant kills.
Press space and chat with peoplwas so fun. Music was so good. Circus everyday was awesome. I miss it so bad guys
Monster Hunter for PS2
And this beauty
used to be a regular, but i dont play much anymore because all the regulars seemed to fade in and out, then theres the absolute bottom of the barrel players
>get command kicked
>RES ROOM JP ONLY
sometimes youll see a good NA MIX room, but theyre full 99% of the time
Halo: Combat Evolved
more specifically, the custom edition on PC
it was great, that's around the time when poorfag me got an internet connection and met my first online friends. That shit was fun as fuck, now that I remember it was actually the most fun I've had.
I played the shit out of this on
Xbox 360, better than Gears of War in some aspects
>ctrl + f
Poor form, resistance 2 was the prefect way to do a co op arcade shooter.
>large open maps with randomized objectives
>final objective for the map would have it's own unique boss fight
>required strategic planning and everyone had to play their part
>medic had a magnum that fired bullets that had remote explosives in them.
I mean, fuck, I can't even system link it and good luck getting past the 4th level with only a medic and a spec ops.
>Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
These two were pinnacle of multiplayer gaming, they were just as good or even beter than Counter Strike or Dota. I understand that Splinter Cell was never a popular game, but why they killed Guild Wars will always be a mystery to me.
Pic related, getting healed created positive link to sidecut hairstyle. Now every time I see it, my dick is hard.
I used to own on that game. I can't remember the map names, but the one with the sort of fortification and tunnels and shit. I got into a level up race with somebody on the other team. Like Lv.60 and odd in that one map.
I always wanted to play this but I never got round to upgrading my PC to play it at the time, and once I did upgrade it I had already forgotten about it.
Fuck, I really wanted to be a badass sniper fucking shit up while my templar niggs fuck shit up in melee combat.
Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic
Vastly superior to HoMaM 3, but nobody plays it online anymore and the AI is shit.
>You have so much dead games that you can't even remember all of them
I didn't expect anyone to mention it.
I played Exteel back when I sucked at shooters.
Now I'm decent at them and could probably fuck people up in Exteel, but it's been dead for years.
There's not even a remotely similar equivalent. There's just no hope for online mecha games.
It wasn't the bad game status.
It was the fucking patching system.
"shit man, we have to deliver a 2,5mb hotfix"
"BETTER MAKING EVERYONE DOWNLOAD THE GAME AGAIN"
"OH WAIT, THERE IS ANOTHER BUGFIX"
PLZ DOWNLOAD UBER'S LAUNCHER
I miss the Zombie master online so fucking much. Can't think of any other game that gives a similar feeling where fucking with other players is the goal of the game. (Or alternativly avoiding getting fucked by the zm)
Easily among some of the best multiplayer I've ever seen in a game other than maybe Nox.
because TF2C is cancer
it's unfinished, has many exploits and bugs, populated by furries/bronies, and the only server that's ever up that has a lot of players consistently is the 8ch server and holy shit they are a /b/ level of cancer.
Man, this game was fucking great. It always felt like I'd learn something new when I played it as well; a new spot to teleport that no one seems to know about, a place that I could launch a grenade into with gust and put out some heavy damage.
Shadowrun blew me away when I played it. I didn't know a game like that could even exist! Damn, rip Shadowrun
I'm 100% sure that Warframe isn't dead, anon
Unless you're those /wfg/ fags
Neotokyo is still alive though.
I decided to randomly fire it up last night and eventually a bunch of people from the Active NeoTokyo Players group joined and it was a full lobby.
I think some of them were from here from what they were talking about
>tfw NeoTokyo is that one multiplayer game where I just seem to wipe the floor and do fucking excellent all the time in
>Communication with NPCs will be through typed responses interpreted by the game, and quests will be mentioned in conversations. There will be no quest log; instead, players will explore storylines that interest them.
oh fuck yes, I'm sick of hand holding and canned responses, if he can pull it off he might even save the RPG from bethesda-tier shit.
Does this count?
