I think the amount of traveling you had to do between the swamp and Visima is what killed people. If you stock up and get as much done with each trip to the swamp as possible then it really isn't that painful.

Also I'm happy no one has mentioned the combat. "The Witcher combat is awful" is a shitty meme, up there with "Crysis has terrible game play"

Look up high-res texturen, enhanced blood, better rain and better moon on moddb.
Also check out Flash mod lite, also on moddb. Only install bug fixes, unlimited item stacking and starting out with 2 side-weapons/3 quick pots. Stay away from all the re-textures and re-balances.

There's also a mod that changes Dice Poker from two to one rounds (and one that makes the AI dumber if you're close to tearing your hair out because shitty luck).

People keep praising the White Wolf mod, it's a huge re-texture pack, but personally I really dislike most stuff it does, especially the UI. It's also on moddb though, if you want to check it out.

Stay away from Full Combat Rebalance 1 (FCR1). It's dog shit and sucks dwarf cock.

Act 1 has one of the best atmospheres in vidya ever probably. It has smell and very few videogames manage to have that. It's all very subjective though.
