Does anyone know why Oculus requires thee USB3.0 and another 2.0? DK2 only uses two USB 2.0. I guess those two are now 3.0, and possibly audio takes another 2.0 where the hell another one came from?

Hello reddit!

I just watched some of the new features on a CES video with the front mounted camera. It really seems to blow the oculus the fuck out. Also good motion controls and room tracking.

Imagine... VR where you don't knock shit over and people can't stick their ass in your face.
>>
>>323056605
No. People who pledged for the DK1 get it for free.
So if you pledged what was it, $300, then you get it free. If you only pledged $5 then you get nothing.
>>
>>323055647
There's no point in buying if we don't know what will be supported.

Yeah, that's a no.

Being near-sighted has to do with how far the object from which light bounces off into your eyes.

The 'object' (VR goggles, or the pixels from which the light emit) are right in front of you. Thus, your near-sightedness won't affect anything.

It's pretty much the same behind the computer.
>>
>>323057249
It still just adds to the cost of the device, when pretty much everyone already has their own headphones.
>>
gen 2 is probably at least 2-3 years away. there will probably be no more public dev kits from oculus.

the jump will likely be straight to an 8k panel but rendering costs will be kept down by using eye-tracked foveated rendering.

if the gap b/w gen 1 and 2 is long enough there might be a transitional headset that includes eye tracking with current panels to greatly improve visual fidelity. desu they should have poured money into eye-tracking and sorted it out for this gen - it was more than possible.

there will still be no good solution to locomotion induced nausea.

Don't get me wrong, I'm confident this is the direction gaming is going and in 2026 everyone will be using some variant of VR.

I just don't think getting in on the ground floor is wise when a more advanced, competitively priced version will be available in good time; once the market for VR expands and developers fully adapt to the new tech.
>>

>I'm confident this is the direction gaming is going and in 2026 everyone will be using some variant of VR.
You're a complete buffoon that fell for the marketing. This is no different from 3D, Kinect or Wii. It'll make some big bucks but it's a fad that will die out easily just like all the others.

Our DAC+amp are optimized for our specific driver modules, and are definitely not designed for high-impedance cans. The quality of our built-in audio stack is pretty great, if you really want something better, you are probably better pairing off with an external DAC.

And Dualshock3 is PS3's controller, what's your point?

Motion control was a gimmick. It sold like shit for everyone except the Wii, only because it was bundled with it. Even the best games on that system don't use/require it at all (monster hunter, Xenoblade) or just partially (Mario Galaxy)

No one cared for motion controls, so no one supported them outside of release games

If the market cares for VR, it'll be supported. On top of that you can make any game VR-compatible without changing their very core or messing about with controls, unlike meaningful waggle integration.
Anyway, it'll be VR-compatible games, rather than VR-exclusive games, that will push VR. If CoD or FIFA ever get VR-compatability then PSVR will sell like hotcakes. It's all it takes

GranTurismo is already a very big franchise believe it or not. And GTsport is the first GT of the generation, it might push some sales, both PS4's and PSVRs.

All VR needs to do is offer headtracking to the general publiic, really. No 2 motion controllers crap, no virtual room experiences, no gimmicks. Just give everyone's most popular games in VR form, with normal controls and added immersion+headtracking and everyone will eat that shit up

No, because the complete setup isn't retardedly expensive

His excuse for not shaving 200$ off of Rift was "Hey, the full setup (PC+ VR) is also expensive as fuck, why try to cut costs amirite? What's the difference between 1300$ to 1500$ anyway?"

The creator of Rift already knows PSVR will sell 10x more and lead the market for the next 5 years, up to the point where mid-range laptops (the majority of the PC market) will work decently with VR.

I just wish /v/ wasn't retarded and lost all hope for Rift/Vive's near-future success already

It all depends on what you are waiting for to drop in price or come out with better revisions. The Wii didn't have a lot of faulty issues, but the original 360 and ps3 release broke down a lot. It happened on a bunch of ps3s and pretty much every other first edition 360 got the RROD. The benefits for waiting instead of day 1 would to be get more HDD and less malfunctions. However if you waited to get the ps3 revisions you lost the ability to play ps1 games. And it's not just hardware but software too. Look at AAA games like Witcher 3 and MGSV you can already find for $25 new when Nintendo games that came out years before are $45-60.

Its impossible to tell what will be the benefits/cost of waiting to get something like OR because we can't see into the future. We have no idea if these will start having malfunctions, if it will have features(or exploits) now that will later be removed, or if nothing will change.
