Let's summarize all "cons" and "pros", It's better wait a couple of years for hardware revision\better games or it's worth going dayone?
THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE FUTURE, IT WAS SUPPOSED TO LOOK PERFECT AND IMMERSIVE.
IT'S NOT FUCKING F- BLAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWGHHHHHHHHHHH
I hate this place so much
nothing but bandwagoners
It was funny enough as it was, then the wave of replies killed it
Does anyone know why Oculus requires thee USB3.0 and another 2.0? DK2 only uses two USB 2.0. I guess those two are now 3.0, and possibly audio takes another 2.0 where the hell another one came from?
I just watched some of the new features on a CES video with the front mounted camera. It really seems to blow the oculus the fuck out. Also good motion controls and room tracking.
Imagine... VR where you don't knock shit over and people can't stick their ass in your face.
I'm really glad I didn't even get my hopes up about VR. Shits DoA.
Can't wait to see this useless and eye-destroying gimmick to become irrelevant and forgotten in a year.

It was cool to point out the hipster retard as it was, then the wave of replies killed it
Ok, so tell me why is that necesarry and why would they put that into vr if they know that it will drive the price up immensly. If its really top notch, as in top of the line fucking headphones, they alone would add 100$ to the price.
top end studio headphones one the market surpass the $1k mark, i somehow doubt they will be that good.
Having said that it wouldn't take much to do a better job than shitey beats headphone
So that people wouldn't be playing with shitty ones that make it incredibly uncomfortable to be used with Rift, I very rarely use my headphones with DK2 because they easily slip off the elastic band off and every single movement makes a terrible chaffing noise.
mass replies on this shitty board became a meme where people just want to end up in a screenshotted picture
They don't care about the post anymore
you are all newfags
Are you asking if you can wear glasses while using it?
They should have been sold as a separate attachment. I can see trying to get everyone using the same controller to lock down the platform, but forcing everyone to buy the same audio setup is a waste.
Finally the Oculus Rift shilling will stop. I am so sick of these morons who can't think for themselves.
>WOOOW VR SO EPIC DUUUDE!! WOW THE FUTURE! TOTALLY NOT A GIMMICK!!!!
Maybe now that these morons get this out of their system we can move on.
Yeah, that's a no.
Being near-sighted has to do with how far the object from which light bounces off into your eyes.
The 'object' (VR goggles, or the pixels from which the light emit) are right in front of you. Thus, your near-sightedness won't affect anything.
It's pretty much the same behind the computer.
gen 2 is probably at least 2-3 years away. there will probably be no more public dev kits from oculus.
the jump will likely be straight to an 8k panel but rendering costs will be kept down by using eye-tracked foveated rendering.
if the gap b/w gen 1 and 2 is long enough there might be a transitional headset that includes eye tracking with current panels to greatly improve visual fidelity. desu they should have poured money into eye-tracking and sorted it out for this gen - it was more than possible.
there will still be no good solution to locomotion induced nausea.
>Being an early adopter
Don't get me wrong, I'm confident this is the direction gaming is going and in 2026 everyone will be using some variant of VR.
I just don't think getting in on the ground floor is wise when a more advanced, competitively priced version will be available in good time; once the market for VR expands and developers fully adapt to the new tech.
>I'm confident this is the direction gaming is going and in 2026 everyone will be using some variant of VR.
You're a complete buffoon that fell for the marketing. This is no different from 3D, Kinect or Wii. It'll make some big bucks but it's a fad that will die out easily just like all the others.
Our DAC+amp are optimized for our specific driver modules, and are definitely not designed for high-impedance cans. The quality of our built-in audio stack is pretty great, if you really want something better, you are probably better pairing off with an external DAC.
Why does this board always complain about the price of things? It's like that Overwatch game all over again when that only cost $40.
How broke do you have to be but have enough money to have video games as a hobby?
>FUCKING GIMMICKS ARENT VIDEO GAMES
Confirmed for never been to an arcade in the 80s/90s. Gimmicks everywhere and it was fantastic.
Oculus really needs to demo their headsets to the general public though. Unless they want to keep their consumer base limited to internet tech-spergs.
How can they be neets if they don't have a trust fund? Are you telling me people sit around with no money and complain because they have no money and won't do anything about it?
I'm not buying until there's a significant price drop. I mean I'd drop a couple of hundred but 0.6k dollarydoos? Yeah, nah.
>No idea where the market is going
>No competition in the market
>High price point
>Second wave of VR
>Market has a semblance of where its headed
>Competiton in the market
>Lower price point
You wasted money if you bought a first gen VR headset, theres no way around it.
It really says something that THIS is what I think of every time someone talks about the oculus, they really fucked up on having a charismatic likable front man for the thing. Also they hyped it up so much and so early on that other better virtual reality products are going to be available soon after the oculus is.
All the hype they created kind of affected it in a bad way I'd say.
Hell, I thought the Oculus was already out for a while but flopped hard due to how the hype was suddenly gone.
Yup, my dad who is into technology but can only follow it about as well as an old guy can keeps asking me if the Oculus Rift is out yet because the thing is in the fucking news every other day.
Yes, but that doesn't just happen on /v/. That's a lot of the people on food stamps and welfare. The same 99%protesters who wanted the 1% to give them money just because they worked for it.
I don't like using this word because of how blatantly abused it is, but a lot of people here feel
entitledto cheap/free products.
overwatch is a clone that isn't worth the asking price
OR is new gen peripheral with a hefty asking price and very games made for it.
Plus there's the whole thing with Palmer promising 250-300 or whatever.
You would think TIME magazine would take a picture with a more dignified pose than a chubby kid with barefeet.
Move didn't have Rockband, or GranTurismo, or AceCombat. All Move had wonderbook
still sold more than PC waggle controllers. Just like PSVR will sell more than Rift/Vive combined, regardless of how well VR does in general
Anyone can spend $10 on google cardboard for that
Not even here on /v/ will a single person spend $600 (or the equivalent of $750 in EU) just for porn.
>get this out of their system
Yeah, and they can get INTO a system! Hahahaha! Get it? Because VR isn't a video game system!
>still gives a fuck about the 250-300
Why? Why the fuck would you care? Why in the FUCk would you fucking care? That was the target price, he couldn't do it without churning out some shitty system made by Tiger Electronics. Build a fucking bridge and get the fuck over it already.
>Why the fuck would you care?
I don't, anon. I'm just trying to answer your question. I'm waiting this out to see how it all goes before I pull the trigger on any of this VR crap.
Palmer's on Engadget live now:
And Dualshock3 is PS3's controller, what's your point?
Motion control was a gimmick. It sold like shit for everyone except the Wii, only because it was bundled with it. Even the best games on that system don't use/require it at all (monster hunter, Xenoblade) or just partially (Mario Galaxy)
No one cared for motion controls, so no one supported them outside of release games
If the market cares for VR, it'll be supported. On top of that you can make any game VR-compatible without changing their very core or messing about with controls, unlike meaningful waggle integration.
Anyway, it'll be VR-compatible games, rather than VR-exclusive games, that will push VR. If CoD or FIFA ever get VR-compatability then PSVR will sell like hotcakes. It's all it takes
GranTurismo is already a very big franchise believe it or not. And GTsport is the first GT of the generation, it might push some sales, both PS4's and PSVRs.
All VR needs to do is offer headtracking to the general publiic, really. No 2 motion controllers crap, no virtual room experiences, no gimmicks. Just give everyone's most popular games in VR form, with normal controls and added immersion+headtracking and everyone will eat that shit up
Hi-Fi audio doesn't come cheap. Rift also has a really good DAC, supposedly.
Regardless, any money that could be shaved off should.
>Vatel® Sal Marinho
Palmers admitting hard that PSVR will outsell the SHIT out of Rift
He said PSVR will be THE reason VR will be popular, thus boosting Rift sales later on.
> because it was ps4 only
No, because the complete setup isn't retardedly expensive
His excuse for not shaving 200$ off of Rift was "Hey, the full setup (PC+ VR) is also expensive as fuck, why try to cut costs amirite? What's the difference between 1300$ to 1500$ anyway?"
The creator of Rift already knows PSVR will sell 10x more and lead the market for the next 5 years, up to the point where mid-range laptops (the majority of the PC market) will work decently with VR.
I just wish /v/ wasn't retarded and lost all hope for Rift/Vive's near-future success already
It all depends on what you are waiting for to drop in price or come out with better revisions. The Wii didn't have a lot of faulty issues, but the original 360 and ps3 release broke down a lot. It happened on a bunch of ps3s and pretty much every other first edition 360 got the RROD. The benefits for waiting instead of day 1 would to be get more HDD and less malfunctions. However if you waited to get the ps3 revisions you lost the ability to play ps1 games. And it's not just hardware but software too. Look at AAA games like Witcher 3 and MGSV you can already find for $25 new when Nintendo games that came out years before are $45-60.
Its impossible to tell what will be the benefits/cost of waiting to get something like OR because we can't see into the future. We have no idea if these will start having malfunctions, if it will have features(or exploits) now that will later be removed, or if nothing will change.
Going to wait for Oculus Rift 2.
I wish I was joking.
