Samus is legitimately fun to play.
I'm only at Falcon and you already called 4 out of 10 characters tierwhores. Do you even know what that word means? He's also incredibly fun but I can't deny that I am a memelord, I main DDD after all.
No one has Peach as their waifu. She's also incredibly strong and underrated as hell but also (likely) the most difficult character to play consistently well. People who play her abuse her strengths and would probably drop her if she was more common because more people would know the matchup against her.
There are a lot of casuals that play Zelda because of her projectile spam but if a good player touches Zelda you can expect to get lightning kicked to oblivion.

I started with Greninja>Ike>Captain Falcon>Ganondorf>Fox>Bowser Jr>Toon Link.

I used to main palutena, and now I main mewtwo. Why do I make such terrible decisions? I almost never win matches but they're so much fun to use. ..

I came into smash from fighting games and needed alot of practice to understand smash's neutral. I have SF friends who picked up smash and checked out ryu. the skillsets dont exactly translate. Smash's approach to air footsies is more similar to like, KOF or something, even then it's unique and nuanced. I think the Ryu one is inaccurate.

I play fighting games at locally competitive level and I usually end up in the top 5, but ever since I started smash when 4 released I haven't been able to beat anyone in for glory. Any tips or videos that can explain things?

The neutral game in Smash 4 is run up shield. Then you react. Either shield grab or roll and do something into grab combo, those are the 2 most popular things to do. Doing that will improve your skill immensely.

I won't explain the basics, since that would result in a way too long essay, so I will resort to cheap advices:
- use the training mode. If you can beat a random lvl 9 character on a regular basis, you most likely can shield, dodge and attack wisely enough. Lvl 9 bots play well enough to copy from them.
- just type in your characters name into youtube and watch some tutorials to learn some basic strategies with the given character.

You can always ask character specific questions in a general smash thread. If you're lucky someone who mains him/her will respond with some useful info.
- One specific tip would be to try to evade/shield as many attacks from a lvl 9 bot as possible. Without proper shielding/evading you will kill no one.

Dedede is spot on but I hate Smash Bros. memes, I'm more of a Baneposter/Sheevposter, Dedede is fun as hell and takes a bit of skill to be good with.

They don't act like humans at all. They have inhuman reaction times, will perfect shield/airdodge every attack possible, yet they'll still stand there and throw out random smash attacks in neutral.

by playing against level 9 bots you're conditioning yourself for a playstyle that literally does not exist in humans, you're probably better to play level 5-8s just to practice combos. These CPUs have fairly random DI and techs, so it's good for practicing combos without being inhuman

you can memorize the basics against lower level bots as well. It's impossible to make reads on lvl 9 cpus because they read your inputs rather than react to your moves. Good players will shield/dodge well, but it won't be frame perfect airdodges/spotdodges/shields.

If you're actually looking to improve, only play bots to practice combos, and play against other people to practice neutral/DI/edgeguarding/everything else

You should use Dins fire only if you opponent is far away/off stage. Yes, Phantom is way so slow and it is always funny to see it reflected (yes, it can be reflected, burn that into your brain Zelda mains). Nayrus love is good for create distance between you and your opponent and hits way longer than expected. And the wind shit can be countered, but this is risky and you're better of shielding it, which puts you at a disadvantage. Overall very annoying.
