Basically most of the people who were initially interested have already left (and most of them probably supported the Kickstarter project because they wanted it to lead to Psychonauts 2) and the remaining morons took up the slack. Not that I'm complaining, it's their money and there may even be a proper game I'd like to play at the end of this whole mess, however unlikely.
>>323032295 1. It's going to be DRM free, which means it's going to be be pirated in two seconds after release 2. If you insist on paying, it's going to be in a humble bundle sale in a few months, maybe a year tops
The only people stupid enough to give these hack frauds money are people who think Double Fine din do nuffin and retards who think that investing in the game is a good idea. See >>323032810 for a detailed explanation as to why you'd be better off burning your money.
>>323033034 Hello Backers! Tim Schafer here. We have an exciting announcement about the release of Psychonauts 2. To get content in the hands of gamers as quickly as possible, Psychonauts 2 will be delivered episodically, starting with episode 1! This is an amazing development that has nothing to do with me being a dirty hack who deserves death by disembowelment! Also, we're out of money. Please buy our 1/5th of a game.
Okay, so I'm going to be totally serious about my position on this "should I trust Tim Schafer?" issue. I know nobody asked for it, but I feel like I kind of have to say it.
I backed Double Fine Adventure and ultimately didn't enjoy it (it's not a bad game exactly, it just didn't fit the remit of a classic adventure game), I didn't back Massive Chalice, and I think the Space Base issues were handled very badly.
I'm still going to give money to Psychonauts 2. I've never played the first one, and I probably never will.
This year I had a beloved series of mine come back on Kickstarter to triple record-breaking success, and I saw a lot of people who had never played the series pledge because they wanted to see the fans of Shenmue get what they want.
That's why I'm throwing in for Psychonauts 2 despite no connection for the series, or much love for Double Fine. I know there are lofty expectations, but in good faith at least based on the desire to do right by fans, I think if the game is funded it will turn out fine. Effectively, I want to thank any Psychonauts fans who helped make Shenmue III happen, by making Psychonauts 2 a thing.
I'm going to pledge not for Tim Schafer, but for the fans. I think they are the ones who will ultimately lose out if this doesn't happen. Tim and Double Fine will move on to another project, and that'll be that. The fans will get left in the dust thinking about what could have been, and that sucks.
>>323033457 I fucking loved it, but largely because I am a sucker for a good soundtrack. The collect-a-thon was a chore and there was less to do around camp than I'd have liked. The leveldesign and actual gameplay was okay, but not particularly good.
>>323033832 I hope there will be a documentary again. It was priceless to follow the whole thing, unwittingly capturing how the whole project fell apart. That shit, with some proper info of what they did when and how much money they've spent at what point, could be a very good educational material for aspiring devs.
>>323034072 I don't understand why you're backing. You didn't play Psychonauts. You didn't like Broken Age. You don't trust Schafer. But you somehow decided to back his project because you want to be a nice guy to Schafer's fans? What the fuck?
If you're not a cuck you're either Tim Schafer, a Double Fine employee or a complete fool.
Tim's literally on the Board of Advisors for this Fig funding website. He's lining his pockets just through using Fig instead of Kickstarter.
Not only that, his bio on it mentions the "record breaking 3.3 million dollar kickstarter" and he just so happens to ask for 3.3 million dollars for Psychonauts 2. Like fucking hell the budget called for that exact amount, they're just being cheeky making a joke with the game budget needed despite it being a lie that's on the order of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
>>323034483 >the "record breaking 3.3 million dollar kickstarter" and he just so happens to ask for 3.3 million dollars for Psychonauts 2. There's plenty of shady shit going on about the whole project, but that's not it. 3.3 million is what their fans have given them previously, a known quantity of what their name is worth. When they went to whatever extra partners they had this whole thing with, the previous amount of money must have come up, getting that much being a condition for their participation.
I don't care about any kind of personal beliefs he has unlike a lot of people I see saying he should fuck off, I think he's just flat out untrustworthy. Broken Age (regardless of personal opinions on quality) was delivered, in the immortal words of Bobby Kotick, "late, missed every milestone, overspent the budget and it doesn't seem like a good game."
And that's not even getting into the frankly disgusting way they handled Spacebase DF-9.
Broke Age part 1 wasn't bad, but part 2 has many stupid puzzles, like the non intuitive one that requires you to switch back and forth to know things, even when it makes no sense at all in the context of the game.
>>323036309 I bet you like The Young Cucks. Pic related. It's your favorites, The Young Cucks.
>>323036650 He only commented on it after the massive uproar, basically saying it was too expensive and it would be discontinued and "mod support" would be added. Then it went on a 50% off sale, became a tier 3 (15 bucks) reward for a humble bundle. Right now they pretend it never existed. Development team has been let go.
