Demon souls is faster than Dark Souls 2 and arguably Dark Souls.

The gameplay is like Dark Souls minus a few nice additions like jumping and plunge attacks.

But the bosses and atmosphere of Demons stands apart from the Souls series. Hopelessness is the name of DeS middle name which also lets it stand apart from Bloodborne too.

Bloodborne meanwhile has some of the best meaty combat of an arpg and is accented by some spectacular boss themes and fights.

Really you should just play the entire series. Every game offers a fresh atmosphere and take on the standard gameplay.

Yes, but that isn't because the Hunter isn't powerful enough, as in consuming the umbilical cords and/or gaining Insight does not affect your damage output in any positive way, it doesn't increase your combat effectiveness at all.

Without the cords you wouldn't be able to kill the MP because it wouldn't come to a fight in the first place, but that doesn't mean the MP (or any other Great One) has some absolutely incredible strength and endurance that would make it capable to straight-up combat armies. So, I got the game when it came out, played a little but got annoyed by it because of how long it took to get to the Clerical Beast from the Central Yharnam. Gave it another go right after christmas, got hooked and just finished the game.
I still plan to play it a little more, but should I also get the Souls games? Are they similar enough that I'll like them but still different enough that it won't feel the same?

Here's a decent guide to get an Arcane build started, and BT is possible too.

As for the Souls games, I suggest you get one and give it a try. Demon's Souls is most like BB. It lacks polish, but if you like BB you'll probably enjoy DeS as well. Dark Souls is in my opinion the best in the series, but it's much slower than BB and even DeS so you may find it difficult to get into at first, but I still suggest you give it a go.

Dark Souls II is trash if you ask me. Feel free to try it yourself, but don't let it dissuade you from trying the others if you try it first and don't like it.
