What do you think of the man, the Autist, the legendary John Carmack?
A genius operating on his own plane and with his own set of goals. Video games just so happen to be the means he achieves those goals by.
>that perpetually smug face of his
You can just tell just by looking that he is operating on a whole different level in comparison to the rest of the world.
Pretty much this.
I also give him credit for open sourcing the Quake engine which eventually became the backbone of most 3D game engines nowadays.
But, people chose the Quake engine not because it was great but because it was open. Plus plenty of people made 3D games without even touching the Quake engine or it's derivatives.
But what really bothers me is that he's revered as a god when there are plenty of devs innovating independently and go completely unnoticed. He hasn't really done anything extraordinary in the past 10~15 years but is still the hero of 3D programming. Honestly, fuck him.
>watching young Carmack in the interviews
>tfw everytime hes says "hmm"
I don't he even says that little tic of his anymore he has grown a long way since his early days.
i finished doom2 today for the first time

i think carmack is a pretty cool guy
