I don't get the open world meme at all. I like linearity in my video games. In fact, every time I play FFVI, the world of ruin kinda kills it for me because it's too open-ended, and it just feels soulless to me. The same thing happened when I got to gran pulse in FFXIII.

I don't want to just be thrown into a world and given options. I want a linear storyline to follow with great writing and endearing characters.

I think the best way to describe it is to just say that I want the developer to create a work of art, to show me what THEIR vision for the game is. The idea of just being there and doing what I want feels pointless to me and destroys any motivation I have to play the game.
